  1. I would take Hawk any day of the week over Len. Now you're just trolling.
  2. Wow, I really thought Dale Sveum would be different. Same meathead philosophy as every other manager, though.
  3. I'm pretty sure he's no longer with the organization.
  4. First of all, this is my first Winter Meetings and...wow. This industry is pretty amazing. It's kind of cool walking around the lobby of the Anatole and bumping into Peter Gammons, then turning around and looking down to see Ken Rosenthal (he's tiny). Or to have John Mozeliak hurriedly walk by you on the way to a meeting with Dan Lozano. Anyway, are any other NSBBers here? I would love to have a meet-up, if so.
  5. This reminds me of a story that porn star BiBi Jones (she was the one in the infamous picture with Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski) revealed on the Howard Stern Show in May, when she said she works with an agent in Phoenix. When visiting teams come to play the Diamondbacks, the agent hires her to sleep with players, eventually leading to a meeting with the agent. It's a seedy business, to be sure.
  6. Clearly the small market clubs drove the bus on this deal. Surprised the players would agree to this at all. Stunning.
  7. Rosters will expand to 26 for some doubleheaders. David Wright's big helmet from a couple of years ago will be mandatory for all players by 2013.
  8. because they are friends? Levine is a moron, I don't think Francona is in the running. I'm sure Theo has a lot of friends, but he doesn't talk about them in relation to his managerial search. I think it's obvious Theo and Francona have talked about it. Do I think it will happen? Probably not. But I don't think it's fair to call Levine a moron because he has made some very reasonable deductions.
  9. I worked as a New Era buyer for a major hat retailer about 3 years ago. The rep I worked with heard strong rumblings that the organization wanted to ditch royal blue in favor of navy. But it obviously never moved beyond a rumor, and then the team was sold. Which is good, because I think we have a few too many navy/red professional sports franchises. The only change I would like to see them make is dump the "Cub in C" secondary logo in favor of a return to: http://www.sportslogos.net/images/logos/54/54/full/jgcecy2vwgb6kkl0spnrkimhv.gif
  10. They already picked it up. yup. that was his point. Well then it's a stupid point. The question was what his first move will be after he hires a manager.
  11. They already picked it up.
  12. If they're not idiots about it the city will get paid back tenfold over time if they help with the initial investment. It's a win-win. Bingo.
  13. I think you're right. Every description I've read/heard of him mentions how intelligent he is. Combine that with his penchant for statistical analysis and it seems like he's right in Theo's wheelhouse. I was interested to hear that Brian Cashman was prepared to hire him in New York last year had Joe Girardi left. He's definitely highly respected in baseball circles.
  14. IMHO, it's not really necessary for Tim Epstein to talk to Rob Emmanuel. I would just let Ted Ricketts deal with it. Or Chris Kenney.
  15. I've been pronouncing it "Muh CAN in" I've been pronouncing it MACK uh nin. However, the impeccable Wikipedia says it should be ma KAN in. I've heard a lot of Chicago media stumble over pronunciation, as well, which seems ridiculous. He's twice been a manager of big league clubs, you would think the guy is well-known enough that sports media should know his name. It's Mc-Cannon.
  16. Just as Theo rules out Ryno, this from Ken Rosenthal:
  17. They would still have 11 World Series championships. And as many Super Bowls as the Bears. It's stupid.
  18. What did he say? "There was a Saturday night when we were down 1-0 to Chicago, and these fans helped us come back. That turned our season around!"
  19. I love TLR acting like Molina was brilliant for saying Carpenter had "plenty" left after the 6th. He immediately gave up a hit and came out of the game in the 7th. That garbage passes for brilliance?
  20. Oh great, TLR piling on the Cubs.
  21. Lose your ace pitcher in spring training, as he's coming off a career year? No problem! Just replace him with aforementioned 27 year old "prospect." And when that "prospect" only slightly overachieves, trade for a career underachiever, who will magically straighten things out. Who needs Wainwright?
  22. This Cardinal team is way better than the last version to win the World Series. Oh, completely agreed. I'm simply referring to the fashion with which they've done it.
  23. So honestly, these St. Louis Cardinals are going to be World Series champions, but we can't even stumble our way to a World Series once in 66 years? This is hurting my heart.
