  1. Diassappeared with the back of the batters box? Or having to have the pitchers glove come to rest below his chin?
  2. You can't learn that type of broadcasting insight. Straight genetics.
  3. I'll take a stab: try to bunt, but pops up the bunt. catcher grabs quickly and tosses to second to double off the runner. Next batter gets thrown out from right trying to stretch a single to a double. Inning over.
  4. I like watching baseball gams
  5. Started today with old Rick. DO SOMETHING BOSTON
  6. It also may or may not invovle some ice cubs and a 9 iron, or a water buffalo (alive or stuffed, preferribly stuffed for safety reasons), or he may bring back the ice cubes, but switch it over to a pitching wedge.
  7. it will be difficult to pull that off w/o balking. I see no problem as long as the he keeps contact on the rubber and delivers all the way home. Bada Bing! I'll be here all week. Try the veal.
  8. Hopefully the weather will hold off. It's been sprinkling here on and off this morning, nothing too bad. Already about 75 people in line for the bleachers at 8:15. Crowd really picked up around 9. I'll be wearing my Cubs colored Zubaz to the park.
  9. Anyone need a parking pass for today? I got an extra.
  10. So...if I'm reading this correctly...she's 21, with a 2 year old, and used to *date* an ex-cub? It sounds as though Farnsworth is still sending checks around Chicago from his after-game bar shinannigans. edit: read that wrong. from Perioa. 2 month old. She hooked up with a career minor leaguer.
  11. Someone please bring me a spare change of pants to my office.
  12. My apologies. I get it. You're afraid of what is different. Saw him last summer in Tinley Park. Good show. Great tailgating. Guy next to us created his own beach on his flatbed and made 150 jello shots. Genius, as we sat back with some beers and girls came by to attack his spread.
  13. Yup. At least. In two months when we are running away with the division we will look at this week and laugh All the other NL Central teams are going to die in plane crashes and have to be replaced by their AAA affliliates? That's already happened to the Cardinals....and they are still only 3.5 games back.
  14. I re-state my earlier comment, why are we the Cubs in the title of this thread and not the Cobs
  15. That's different from regular game nights how, exactly? It's not, but I surely would have thought someone would have commented on it. Too funny. It's almost too easy. Give them props, they know their market segmentation to a T
  16. No real need to mute, as dead silence fills approx. 83% of their broadcast, although it is commonly followed by horribly annoying southern drawl hickish saying commonly used in 7th grade girls softball coaches in recreational leagues who don't know anything about baseball.
  17. How come it says "Cubs" and not "Cobs" in the title? I would think a three game losing streak would warrant the change
  18. From the rulebook... The Rule provides as follows: A hitter may be designated to bat for the starting pitcher and all subsequent pitchers in any game without otherwise affecting the status of the pitcher(s) in the game. A Designated Hitter for the pitcher must be selected prior to the game and must be included in the lineup cards presented to the Umpire in Chief. The designated hitter named in the starting lineup must come to bat at least one time, unless the opposing club changes pitchers. It is not mandatory that a club designate a hitter for the pitcher, but failure to do so prior to the game precludes the use of a Designated Hitter for that game. Pinch hitters for a Designated Hitter may be used. Any substitute hitter for a Designated Hitter becomes the Designated Hitter. A replaced Designated Hitter shall not re enter the game in any capacity. The Designated Hitter may be used defensively, continuing to bat in the same position in the batting order, but the pitcher must then bat in the place of the substituted defensive player, unless more than one substitution is made, and the manager then must designate their spots in the batting order. A runner may be substituted for the Designated Hitter and the runner assumes the role of Designated Hitter. A Designated Hitter may not pinch run. A Designated Hitter is "locked" into the batting order. No multiple substitutions may be made that will alter the batting rotation of the Designated Hitter. Once the game pitcher is switched from the mound to a defensive position this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. Once a pinch hitter bats for any player in the batting order and then enters the game to pitch, this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. Once the game pitcher bats for the Designated Hitter this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. (The game pitcher may only pinch hit for the Designated Hitter). Once a Designated Hitter assumes a defensive position this move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for the remainder of the game. A substitute for the Designated Hitter need not be announced until it is the Designated Hitter's turn to bat
  19. What are the odds Lou lets Z hit? I would do it just to spite Whinebrenner. Would that be history too? Has a pitcher ever hit at an AL stadium since the implementation of the DH in 1972?
  20. If a person woulda told me at the beginning of the season that Lilly and Dempster would be top 15 in the NL in strikeouts, but not Z, I woulda slapped that person straight across the face.
  21. This kid either A. Knows nothing of Cubs Nation or B. Seems to be confusing us with White Sox fans. Doesn't look good when we are referring to ourselves as "Cub Nation" either Couldn't resist. I went over there and looked. I saw plenty "Lou is a loser" threads. Funny, I never even gave the fact that this is a homecoming game for Lou a thought until I saw that. The Rays have a fan site? Do they really need the internet? All five of them could just call each other up and have a pizza night instead of wasting time to put it online.
  22. I also hate the fact that when a slugger gets old and fat and can't play defense anymore, analysts are like "he can still go DH somewhere." If your old and fat, get out of the game. I don't care if you can still hit .275, hit 25 HRs, and drive in 90. If you can't get yourself in shape to jog out to a position inbetween innings, stand there and make a play every other inning, go hang up your cleats.
