I don’t think it’s asking too much for a guy that bats 4 times a game to give 100% effort during those at bats. but even if you want to take the position that it’s fine for a guy not to sprint out every single at bat of the season, I’d say a 1-0 game in the sixth inning is not one of the few you’re allowed to jog out.

not only does conforto swing before PCA has a chance to steal, he makes two outs with that swing.

not on a ball 4 play. and not when the coming off the bag part is due to the fielder applying a tag that doesn’t matter. guess the lesson is to always throw through in that situation and apply an overly aggressive tag and hope you knock the guy off the base for a millisecond (but only after he touches it for a millisecond before that).

the walk isn’t a dead ball. theoretically PCA (or the batter) can go to the base they’re entitled to and then just keep running to the next base, at which point the would be advancing at their own risk. that is obviously, obviously, obviously in no way shape or form what happened here. after years of terrible replay reviews, we have finally seen the worst one ever.

miss cease and give the terrible/exhausted bullpen the day off. maybe the cubs will have their horsefeathers together by august.

taking shota out for garbage ass maton was so egregiously stupid counsell basically apologized for it after the game. as embarrassing as it is, rolison might be the cubs best reliever right now. he threw one pitch in the 6th and the cubs had 9 outs left to get with Roberts/thielbar/webb (all of whom have sucked lately) and Thornton/Milner, neither of whom have been great lately and whose success has been based on some smoke and mirrors. handedness be damned, I’m trying to squeeze more than one pitch out of maybe the best reliever they have when the rest of the pen is varying degrees of garbage/shakiness.
