    Brewers. Meh. I think he means that team with a 120-119 Pythagorean record over the last two seasons, including 27-30 this season. And yet, they have enough talent and resources to make a run. Who said that their talent was playing at full potential the last season and a half. I think your unhealthy angst towards anything Wisconsin is blinding you into worrying about the Brewers a little too much. I hope that's not true. I'm from Wisconsin, and the Cubs are on a 7-game streak. We're not all bad! And just so I'm clear, what is the deadline for starting the game thread before someone else can jump in and start it? I hope it's ok that it might not be up until 330 or so tomorrow if we win tonight. Keep in mind, the Reds are only a game behind the Brewers, yet they dont seem to be registering on anyones radar yet.

    I think that if the Cubs had held on to win all 6 of these games for a 42-15 record, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that. The only one of these that really should have been a win is the 5/25 game. The rest of them were just poor offensive showings, aside from the 5/17 which was 1 bad pitch. If every game in which an offense underproduces is a game that would, should, could have been a win, The White Sox would, should, could be uncatchable by now.

    fixed Sorry, 3 Pads, 4 Dodgers. I dont know though, records may say otherwise, but on paper, without Peavy and Young, its hard to imagine a worse team than the Pads. I don't trust this series because I don't trust Petco Park No worries for Zambrano Marquis, you have to worry wherever you are Lilly owes his team a big game after they scraped him up off the ground Friday. Basically, out hitters need to know not to swing for the fences unless they see that perfect meatball, and they've been doing a good job of that.

    If this weekend hadnt happened, Id give Edmonds until Ward returned, tops. However, since it did happen, its going to buy him some time. If he can produce, he wont go anywhere. He can still field, and he looks like enjoys being out there. As Ive said since we first got him, if he can give us anywhere near what he been capable of in the past, he'll be ahuge asset to this team.

    You can pretty much etch in stone that Hoffs going back to Iowa. Cedeno or Fontenot might be a more logical choice, but you need those 2 extra middle infielders. The only other guy on the team whose ever played infield is you know who, and do we really want to see that, even if is a rare occurance? DFAng or trading Ward might be a better move, but it wont happen unless some power starved team would pick up the remainder of his salary. Hes done nothing to deserve it, but Hoff is a better investment. The good news for Hoff is that between dmonds, Ward, and Johnson, Johnsons the only one who might be on the team next year, and if Pie proves he can be a full time, major league CF, wed have no need for him making Hoff a cinch to make the team next year if he has another impressive spring, as well as Murton unless hes traded by then. Also, if he doesnt get injured again, hes sure to come back in September.

    If hes going to have any hope at continuing his career, hes going to have to go the Kerry Wood way and try to catch on as a reliever.

    Just plugging in Hoffpauir third seems awfully lazy on Lou's part. Looking at the lineup the Rockies are trotting out, Lou can afford to experiment.

    Luis Montanez, but I don't think anyone thought he would be a megastar. He is still in Baltimore, suprise suprise a former Cub prospect in Baltimore, I think at AAA. Thats him. Looks like hes actually on their AA team. Not doing bad for himself down there. Mastering AA ball after 8 years isn't impressive. By doing well for himself down there, I mean he has decent AA stats. As far as the big picture gos, he was an immnese failure, however, I was just looking over a list of the 2000 draft, and as far as the top 20 gos, Adrian Gonzales and Chase Utley are the only once that made it. Adam Wainwright, Boof Bonser, and to a lesser extent Phil Doumatrait did OK in the 20's.

    Garland Willis Prior Clement Estes and we drafted Linecum in a late round in '03, but never signed him. Im sure most teams have a list like that though.

    I know its been a while, and hes likely LONG gone, but what ever happened to that SS we drafted in 2000? He was supposed to be a mega star. Obviously it never worked out for him. Is he at least floating around the AAA circuit still?

    It seems like a lot of future stars have emerged in the NL Central in the past 2 years. Whos is at the top of the class as far as staying power gos? I nhad to chose Geo in the end, not only because hes been up there with Braun, but the fact that hes filled a need in the the Cubs, not to mention most teams in general sorely need in a catcher who can be at the top in both offense and defense.
