  1. This being said, does 22 year old Smokies ace Mitch Atkins have any value?
  2. I didnt know he had one. Toronto should really want to move him, as hes already expressed he wants to be a Cub, which suggests that he clearly doesnt want to be in Toronto period, or else he wouldt have made the comment to begin with.
  3. Huh? Yeah, Im confused as to how paying a guy who clearly doesnt want to be there 10 mil for each of the next 2 years is going to help him keep his job. With the emerging Rays, they better get used to fighting Baltimore for 4th place for at least the next 5 years.
  4. Well it's a good thing that Sean Burroughs came out of it and became the star that he is today.
  5. There is another big name he mentioned that has been discussed here, but he asked me not to say what he told me. He's available and should come very cheap. I like that Harden is available, but it seems like a long shot since a third team would have to be involved. It would be typical for the Brewers to get C.C., the Cards to get Harden, and the Cubs settling for Joe Blanton. Edit: By the way, his mainpage has some stuff on the Cubs/Cards too, but it's mostly the same stuff that he said in the e-mail. I have no doubt that if Harden is the guy Hendry wants, he will make it happen. Besides this is one man's opinion, and not fact, so, who knows the truth. I just hope that _____ isnt Randy Wolf or Greg Maddux.
  6. Wow. So the Cubs suck because they were actually relevant for 25 years while the Brewers stockpiled young talent? You might want to avoid Brewers blogs for a few days. Let them have their fun. It is kinda pathetic because if the Cubs hand landed CC I don't think anyone on here would be commenting on how the Brewers suck but who cares? They're ecstatic because of the trade but it isn't a guarantee of anything (the Mets looked great on paper after getting Santana too and they have either not scored enough runs for him or their bullpen has blow his games). The Brewers traded for Sabathia, so in turn, the Cubs must suck. Logic at it's finest.
  7. I'd like to ask you what tradeable player in our system offers what LaPorta can, since a middle of the order power bat is what Cleveland was obviously looking for. aramis ramirez Ryan Harvey  The Ceature :good:
  8. I bet Cliff Floyd would look good in Cubbie Blue.
  9. nah, he'll just overpay for Randy Wolf Matt Murton would be overpaying for Wolf. Seriously, if it comes down to Randy Wolf or standing pat, just pick between Marquis, Marshall, Gallagher, and Hill for the 4-5 starters.
  10. The Indians still have too much talent to "nuke it all". Cliff Lee is signed through 2009 with an option for 2010. If the Indians are in the same position this time next year, then maybe Cliff Lee will be moved, but not this year. CC was on his last year, and it was clear that they wouldnt be able to re sign him. Touche. I'd also be interested in Greinke if he's still on his meds. He probably wouldn't come cheaper than Burnett because of his low salary. Id love Greinke, but the Royals seem to have this idea in their heads that they're going to contend next year. Kind of cute. last year there was some banter about us being interested in Greinke, but I dont think there was ever any serious talk.
  11. O RLY? on the cubs' side: soto is way better than kendall derosa at this point is a little better than weeks ramirez is easily better than hall on the brewers' side: hardy is better than theriot fielder is marginally better than lee cameron is better than edmonds/johnson braun is way better than whoever's playing left in soriano's absence hart is probably slightly better than fukudome, but it's close the same mets that trail the brewers by either 5 or 6 games, pending the outcome of their game today? BP has the NL east at roughly a 10% chance of winning the wild card, so your confidence in this respect is unwarranted. I don't necessarily disagree with anything, but Mike Cameron over Edmonds/Johnson. I'm not so sure right now. Cameron (52 games) .232/.311/.500, 14 hrs with 33 rbis Edmonds (w/Cubs): (38 games) .276/.375/.552 8 hrs 24 rbis Johnson: .266/.336/.383 3 homers, 31 rbis To this point, Edmonds with the Cubs (138 OPS+ in 116 AB's) has been superior to Cameron with the Brewers (110 OPS+ in 194 AB's). Color me skeptical on Edmonds, but he's been quite excellent for the Cubs. Johnson is great against LHP, but sucks against RHP, and Edmonds is the opposite. When Soriano returns, Edmonds and Johnson will be platooned that way.

  14. you're like 0-3 on this page alone. take a deep breath and think about some things. People seem to think I was saying that Cedeno, Murton, and Hofpauir are enough to land Harden. Thats not what I was saying. I was simply saing that they have a bad offense, and with some quality prospects, they would be inclined to moe Harden, so how about you calm down and understand that I never said that 3 bench players/future jouneymen are going to land us a top of the line starter. People should have figured out that I tend to make over the top comments, which are often sarcastic or exadurations. I'll remember to type them in green.

  16. I wouldnt be shocked in the slightest if the Brewers still end up going for Maddux. His brother is the pitching coach, and they certainly wouldnt have to give up any Gamels or Escobars.
  17. Yeah, thats not going to happen. With CC off the market, all of the sudden, guys like Harden and Burnett become more valueable, almost precious. There are more teams in need of quality pitching than there are sellers getting rid of it, so they really have no reason to be in a hurry to get rid of these guys. If anything, the value will go up closer to the deadline as more teams are scrambling to get these guys. Unless of course, Hendry makes a ridiculous offer.
  18. There was noise of them going after Matt Holliday, but if the Rockies do move him, its pretty safe to say that the Angels will be adding him to their logjammed outfield/DH spot. The Cards are just anxiously waiting for the 2 weeks when Carpenter and Mulder are healthy.
  19. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I know, Im exaggerating, but it's a pretty bad looking team on paper.
  20. watching some of the A's/Sox game before the Cubs game, I noticed something. I've never heard of half of the A's players, and the ones I have heard of would be on most teams bench. And its not like the Cardinals or Rays never heard of, it's the legitamately bad kind. Their top hitter, Mark Ellis is a .249/.345/.405 guy. Thats pretty bad. If we offered up enough prospects, we could get Harden. Im talking a bunch of em. I mean that is a bad team. I mean Cedeno, Hoffpauir, Murton could not only start, but hit 3-4-5 bad.
  21. I dont think he'll stink up the joint, but I dont think he suddenly makes the Brewers a lock for the division, or even the playoffs. If Gallardo ends up coming back, then watch out. What? Sheets, Sabathia, Parra, Suppan, Bush=good rotation. Sheets, Sabathia, Parra, Gallardo, Suppan/Bush=watch out.
  22. If were going to go for Hudson, may as well go for broke and go for Peavy. Im just saying.
  23. I dont think he'll stink up the joint, but I dont think he suddenly makes the Brewers a lock for the division, or even the playoffs. If Gallardo ends up coming back, then watch out.
  24. lets be realistic here. There are other contending teams in need of pitching, and they will be pushing just as hard for these guys. I think Hendry can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get one, but I dont see him getting both. If we are going to get Harden, were going to give up a lot. Probably more than hes worth.
  25. I'm not counting on Hill for anything. Me neither. Fortunately, I don't think we'll need him. I think the acquisition of Sabathia makes the Brewers essentially the same team they were before Gallardo was injured, maybe slightly better. Unfortunately for them, that bullpen is going to be their downfall. Lets see here Zambrano/Sheets Dempster/Sabathia Lilly/Suppan Marquis(or unnamed aquisition)/Parra Gallagher or Marshall or Marquis or Hill/Bush I still like our rotation better. Definitely our pen.
