  1. Yes, if there were a healthy Sabathia, Sheets, and Gallardo, Id fear the Brewers. Instead, you have an overworked Sabathia, a broken Sheets who has no buisness on the mound if he knows whats good for him, and a Gallardo who is good for <5 innings, as well as the regular cast of characters in Bush, Suppan, and Parra.
  2. You don't really think one of those guys should be on the roster instead of Marshall based on just tonight, do you? Marshall should be in before all of those guys. And Wuertz wasn't lights out. He walked Craig freaking Council with the bases loaded to put them ahead. Oddly enough, I'd rather have had Howry pitch to Counsell and Wuertz pitch to Braun. As stats go on the year, Wuertz has been the Cubs fourth best reliever this year by ERA+. Much of that is due to before he was wrongly sent down. His control has been howry-ty since he came back up on 1 Sep. Howry is the only other guy I'd rather not see then Wuertz in the playoffs if there are already any guys on base. In the eight appearances Wuertz has made since he's come back on September 1, he's allowed a walk in four of them. He's allowed a hit in three of them, and a run in one of them. That time was on two hits and a walk vs. Cincy before Marmol came in and gave up a granny on the first pitch in a game the Cubs won 14-9. The fact is that a lot of these guys may be inconsistant at best, but Howry is horible 90% of the time. Who would you rather have, a guy who you dont know what they're going to do or the guy who you know will cough up runs every time out?
  3. Any bit of nervousness I have will be gone if Bob Howry breaks something before the series starts.
  4. So Guzman, Gaudin, Cotts, Hart, and Wuertz are pretty much lights out vs. a team fighting for their lives. only 1 of them will be pitching enxt week. Meanwhile 3 runs are allowed, to Sean Marshall, and of course Bob Howry. Care to reconsider your decision Lou?
  5. I say if both the Mets and Brewers end up getting shut out in must win games, to hell with the both of em and the wild card goes to the next best team.
  6. 4 games that matter to 4 teams that dont deserve to be in the playoffs.
  7. http://www.stupidcollege.com/Images/Sexy_Ass_Part_3.jpg The creepazoid on the left looks like he has eyes for the kid in the blue, and the kid just wants to get out as fast as possible.
  8. If the Brewers want to win, more power to em, but we need to give Howry, Cotts, Marshall, Marquis, and Samardzjiajiajia some innings, because they need tuning up in a major way. Also, I was listeneing to part of the game on the radio yesterday, and they said that tommorow(being today) they'll start the regulars, but only leave tham in for about 3 innings or 2 at bats each.
  9. Has their ever been a less coveted title than 2008 American League Central Champions?
  10. Whenever a major league teams start drooling over the next big Japanese superstar, maybe they should put into consideration how many of old mediocre-below average major leaguers went over to Japan and became superstars. See Julio Zuleta, Tuffy Rhodes, Randall Siman, Larry Bigbie, etc.
  11. I dont blame Lou for keeping Gaudin out. Hes stunk lately. Maybe its been injury related, maybe not. Still, aside from Marmol and Wood, Id trust Wuertz over any of these other jokers. At any rate, I get the feeling we've seen the last of Wuertz as a Cub. With the 2009 bullpen likely revolving around Marmol, Wood, Gaudin, Samardjia, and Guzman, and a lefty of some sort, be it Cotts, Marshall, or someone else all together, Wuertz will likely be traded for some sort of mid level prospect or bench bat.
  12. The Mets better bring their A game tommorow.
  13. first off great job by him today. It may be too late for him to make that PO roster, but today, he came it to his specialty. He has always been good at bailing other pitchers out of jams, coming in with the bases loaded and less than 2 out, and inducing a ground ball or 2, or else a strike out. Somewhere along the line, Lou forgot that.
  14. So Lou is opting to give Edmonds the day off. Cue the is Jim Edmonds injured panic and accopmonying thread.
  15. Heres a thought. Say the Mets win today, and the Brewers lose. Do the Brewers really want to pitch CC tommorow on short rest? Say that the 1 game playoff with the Mets is forced, and they have to use Dave Bush or 4 innings of Gallardo plus the pen. Its living dangerously.
  16. Seriousy though, considering this is the worst we have to offer, the lineup doesnt look all that bad. I dont know why Edmonds is in instead of Pie though.
  17. If we can get Good Zambrano and 7 Inning Harden, the Dodgers, or any other NL team wont stand a chance.
  18. wouldn't he have been more believable as a Giant? If he tried it with the White Sox, it could have worked.
  19. Lou should definitely give Marquis a few relief innings the next 2 games. The way most of the pen has looked, we may need him.
  20. It's the "you never know" factor that worries me somewhat. It's almost invariable that a team you don't snuff out when you have the chance will come back and trouble you somehow. See also: 2004 Astros. Yeah I can agree with that. If all the pitchers pitch to their potential I don't think any team can compare to the Brewers rotation. Three pitchers who could easily post seasons of sub 3.00 ERA. I doubt they pitch like that though since they all have their issues. you can say the same for Harden, Z, and Dempster. Harden and Z, yes. Demp... maybe. I'm still not convinced that this is anything more than a career year for him and he won't regress next year. If his career year extends well into October, he'll be OK in my book. Anyway, I disagree. I think hes doing now what he was supposed to do back before he had his Tommy John.
  21. Its called precaution. If a starter so much as gets a headache, they'll be taken out of the game, and probably the next.
  22. huh? Why are we rooting against milwaukee in the DS anyway? I know it's a long shot, but a healthy trio of Sabathia/Sheets/Gallardo is still very scary True, but how many innings can you really expect from Sheets and Gallardo?
  23. If I didnt know any better, some of you would have me thinking that the Cubs were the Chicago team that blew a 2.5 game lead in 3 days.
