  1. Wholy Howry, you're telling me that there are folks who take the WBC seriously?
  2. http://www.springtraining09.com/features/the-44-worst-contracts-in-base.php Kosuke and Soriano both make the list. Not quite sure how Andruw got left out of it.
  3. I think I miscounted relievers anyway. If they break camp with 12 pitchers, that would be the 5 starters+ Gregg, Marmol, Heilman, Vizcaino, Gaudin, Cotts/Stanton/Lefty, and 1 more. I guess Guzman could easily be that last guy, unless Shark dazzles his way through ST. The problem is, Gooz better be impressive, because we all know how fast Lou looses patience, especially when it comes to young pitchers, and if it comes down to it, I doubt he'll care that Gooz is a one time top prospect, and ship him off to wherever.
  4. I get the feeling that Lou has already chosen Vizcaino to fill that final bullpen spot anyway. Gooz will have plenty of time to to get it done in Iowa.
  5. As long as Z and Marmol looked good, Im not going to lose sleep over Mitch Atkins getting rocked.
  6. that basiacally looks like every proposal we were making over the winter, only substitute our garbage with that of the Angels. If Peavy were to head to Annaheim, believe, Jared Weaver would be invloved in the deal.
  7. The minor leaguers are sent back to the minors. I the case of established major leaguers who are given these types of deals, in most cases, there is a clause in their contract that if they dont make the roster by a certain date they can opt out of the deal.
  8. Peavys interest in joining the Cubs was never the issue. It was Hendry and Towers being unable to put a deal together, partially due to the fact that each one thought that they had all the leverage over the other.
  9. I agree that we could go with 11 pitchers, especialy when we have several guys in Heilman, Gaudin, and Vizcaino who are capable of going long inning relief. However, Lou has made it clear that he prefers to start out with the 12 pitchers. Micah Hoffpauir, as Daryl Ward was before him is esentially a designated hitter on an NL team. Looking at other NL rosters, I dont see too many teams who have that player on the bench, just for his bat who doesnt have a specified defensive position. Someone like that is great to have on the roster come September, but until then, it takes up space. Especially when you have a guy like Hoff who has been an everyday player at every minor league level, and then you take these guys and give them a bench role, an they're not used to it. As every announcer will happily tell you every time a pinch hitter comes to the plate, when a guys used to playing everyday, its not that easy to come off the bench and take his hacks at the plate.
  10. Or maybe Hendry just got word that Kevin Towers has had his eye on Koskie. Seriously though, I do hate to say this, but if healthy a guy like Koskie probably has more of a place on this team than Hoff. Hoff has a nice bat, and I have a feeling that if being given the oportunity, he could be a .850ish OPSer with 20-25 home runs. However, the only position he can play semi competantly is 1B(wasnt he voted the best defensive 1B in his division in AAA for whatever thats worth?), and he wont get much of a chance. For this reason, Hoff would be better off if he were moved to a low level AL team where he could DH and play the occasional 1B, somewhere like KC or Baltimore. Other than that, he'll be a bat off the bench and nothing else, and Lou prefers the guys who can do a bit more, and we really don need another middle infielder on the team, be it Koskie, Luis Rivas, or whoever. I dont know much about Gathright defense, but his speed is great to have, especially if he can get on base. I doubt that they'll want to eat the 2.5 mil they just gave Miles.
  11. Depending on how cheap hed sign for, Id be intrigued.
  12. I wouldnt think too much into it. Hes probably just there to keep Harden and Dempster company in ST like Taguchi and Kadohura are for Kosuke.
  13. So more runs in 1 little inning of Cactus League Ball than all of last October. Nice.
  14. Aaron Miles 2/5 i don't see how you can call a 5 million dollar commitment the biggest blunder of the offseason. I dont think he was being serious. It is, however sickening that hes probably making more than Soto, Marmol, Theriot, Fontenot, and Marshall combined. derrek lee is making like 6 times what those guys are making combined, is that sickening too? It sickens me that anyome makes that kind of money to play baseball, or to do anything for that matter, but hey, I guess thats just the way it is.
  15. Maybe someone should tell Coletti that his team is by far the frontrunners for their divison, and if need be, they should just wait for the deadline for another slugger to become available. For one, I get the feeling that Adam Dunn won't be in Washington past July.
  16. Are you sure that isn't Matt Clement? Either that or Drew Gooden is seeing the same plastic surgeon as Michael Jackson.
  17. Seriously, can the league just black list this a hole? Does he really think that he'll get a 4 year deal after the crap he pulled in Boston, especially from The Dodgers, who if they had any sense theyd be more than gun shy about offering any more potentially awful deals?

  19. Funny how nobodys even mentioning Kerry Woods contract in the foolish contract discussion. Hes making over 10mil/year after finally having one almost full season.
  20. And of course Rotoworld puts their usual 2 cents in
  21. I wonder if theres any chance that he felt some slight discomfort, and Lou opted to lift him from a meaningless Cactus League game.
