  1. You knew he was going to turn into a decent pitcher that we got zilch in return for. Always happens. Wasnt the Cubs return based on his performance? We'll take Wieters, Markakis, or Jones thank you very much.
  2. Giving Johnson a full time spot would have been terrible. He can't hit RHP Making Reed Johnson a full time starter because he was a solid backup and bench bat would be the equivalent of doing the same with Todd Hollandsworth in 2006, and we all know how that worked out. Getting rid of Marquis was a needed move to free up money to get a solid lefty for right field, which it did. Maybe Hendry chose the wrong lefty, but time will tell. IMHO, the Marshall/Wells duo will give us the same or better results than Marquis.
  3. Maybe its time to let Chirinos, whose seemingly been with the organization since the Riggelman era make that big jump to AA.
  4. My guess is Waddell is long gone and forgotten by then. Agreed that Fox and Hoff will be nice off the bench, and Miles will surely be on the roster over Scales if hes still on the team. If no trade for a middle infielder of some sort has been made by now, I cant imagine what kind of trade Hendry would be making at the deadline if any, unless of course the ownership is settled and we go after Peavy. Maybe sign Ray Durham as a backup or platoon partner for Fontenot.
  5. So far through 3.2 innings, Mitch Atkins has given up 6 ER on 10 hits. The guys been nothing short of brutal all season. Maybe he could use some time in Tennessee.
  6. I didnt know the Reds signed Pawelek. Good for him.
  7. My prediction: Randy Wells pitches 8 innings of 1 run ball, but gets no decision, leaving a 2-1 game. Heilman gives up the lead in the bottom of the 8th giving up 2 runs, but the Cubs score 3 of their own in the top of the 9th, which is enough to secure the win for Heilman and the Cubs.
  8. I think its because of the Market sizes. In the Easts, you have Phily, New York, and Boston, in the Wests, you have The California teams and Seattle. In the Centrals, all there really is is Chicago, and to a smaller extent, Detroit. St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Kanses City are all very small markets, comparitvely speaking, so those divisions couldnt possibly be as good as the others.
  9. One of Miles or Blanco needs to stay. Having only 3 middle infielders isn't the best move when you're counting on some of those guys to be able to back up 3rd, too. If it's a choice of Miles or Blanco than it should definitely be Blanco. Neither can hit but at least Blanco can play SS so that Theriot doesn't turn to dust the 2nd half of the season. Agreed. If they could somehow shed Miles and his contract, I would be very happy. Im sure GMs are lining up for that one as we speak. bad player, bad contract where do we sign up? Still, Im starting to think I can stop obsessively checking MLBTR every half hour-hour hoping to hear something Cubs related, because I dont see anything on the horizon.
  10. Screw that, Sosa for manager! Dawson for hitting coach! Dunston for bench coach! Bielecki for pitching coach!
  11. One of Miles or Blanco needs to stay. Having only 3 middle infielders isn't the best move when you're counting on some of those guys to be able to back up 3rd, too. The smart thing to do would be signing Durham to play 2nd while Aramis is out, so we could at least get some use ut of him once Rams back, but if that were going to happen, it would have by now.
  12. fixed. ??? I believe he wants to know why you think Lilly and Zambrano are automatic losses. Quite the opposite. Its the Braves who need to be worrying about winning this game with Lilly and Z due up.
  13. The trouble with these guys like Edmonds, Durham, and Lofton has to be money. If they were willing to sign a 1-2 million dollar deal I cant imagine them not having jobs by now, but thats chump change to them, and they know if they wait until July or August, they can probably get that same money for just a few months of work, and end up on a ready set contender.
  14. That little package MIGHT get us Melvin Mora, and Id take it at this point.
  15. i don't think it's that bad just because when wells has a bad start or two, knee-jerk lou will put marshall back in. as long as wells pitches well he'll stay in the rotation. That is the likely scenerio, but then again, knowing Lou he could decide to go the crazy route and call up Hart or Atkins.
  16. I said when the Cubs got back home that if we took 2 from the Pirates and split with the Dodgers, Id be satisfied, and I stand by it. I still say we need another bat though.
  17. Not a great decision, but if its whats best for the team, so be it. As long as Randy Wells keeps it up, leave him in there. If he falters, Marshall will be back. We all know Harden will be needing his breaks, and Marshall will be there. Marshall will still get some starts. Mark my words.
  18. Well good thing I missed out on most of this game. Maybe Lou shouldnt have essentially announced that theres nothing Marshall can do to avoid being relagated to the pen just before his start.
  19. If he keeps doing what hes doing, Id say theyre pretty good.
  20. Is it me, or would it make more sense to have Scales at 3B and Fontenot at 2B? Not if Lou plans on making Font the full time 3B until Ramirez comes back, which sounds like the plan and use the revolving door of doo doo at 2nd.
  21. Kevin Hart through 6-1 run on a first inning home run, 2 hits 7K 0BB. The guys been nothing but solid since being put into the rotation.
