  1. IIRC, the downfall of the 2004 team was not being able to beat bad teams. I remember a very unpleasant series against Montreal in early September of 2004 that pissed me right the [expletive] off. I think I remember what you're talking about, and for some reason, the name Termell Sledge jumps out.
  2. That about sums it up. They are an extremely mediocre team who takes advantage of the teams below them and gets beat up by the teams above them. Haven't they only won 2 series' against teams with winning records this season? Mediocrity at its finest right there Out of curioisty, how many series have the Phillies won against teams with winning records? Obviously, your're going to lose more games vs. good teams than you would vs. bad teams, or else they wouldnt be good teams. However, the fact that they're completely helpless vs. over .500 teams is not a good sign.
  3. This team is really at a crossroads right about now. They can go the 2004 rout and completely roll over or they can come to life and start beating the crap out of bad teams, which they'll be facing a lot of after this series.
  4. should that be in green? The only guy Id walk Soriano to get to at this point is Miles. That's ridiculous. Granted, Baker had 4 hits, but still: NSBB hyperbole strikes again. Soriano has been absolutely horrible since Lou rested him in game 1 vs. Florida. why walk him to push the runner into scoring position when you have a guy whose 4-4 coming to the plate?
  5. Cards lose to the Reds, Pirates beating the Rockies in Denver. This would have been a golden opportunity to pick up a game in both races, but at the end of the day, they're just not good enough.
  6. Remember, theres no such thing as clutch hitting. At least for the Cubs.
  7. should that be in green? The only guy Id walk Soriano to get to at this point is Miles.
  8. The Cubs arent exactly a bad team, they're just not good enough to outscore their opponents unless they're playing really bad teams.
  9. come on fatty, anything but a double play.
  10. If these guys decide they want to win here. they have the right guys coming to the plate. Im not saying they want to win, but if they do.
  11. I want to see that walk off weve been promised.
  12. Im slowly and cautiously starting to like Milton Bradley again.
  13. Who else is available? Kosuke is already in, then its Miles, Koyie Hill, Aramis Ramirez (hurt). Am I missing anyone on this horrid bench of ours? Fontenot Dempster. Wells. a bat boy. Ronnie Woo Woo. a Gatoraid cooler with a bat taped to it.
  14. why does that worthless little toad bother bringing a bat to the plate?
  15. Aaron Miles? what is Lou getting paid hourly now?
  16. Can we please, please, please end this here?
  17. Its all you Jake. make it happen. Im sick of extra innings.
  18. Miltons pulling a late 2007 Jacque Jones.
  19. so what will it be? DP and a K? base hit, grounder to SS and a SP?
  20. Nope. I expect nothing short of a spectacular fake rally.
  21. I say dump em both and buy Edmonds and Durham.
  22. I think we juiced Fuld for everything he was worth as we did with Hoffpauir and Scales before him.
  23. Not even close. actually, it is.in 2006, we knew we had a crap team on our hands from the get go, but now, we have a high pay roll team that should be steamrolling their way to the top, and they cant hang. One would need that high payroll team actually on the field for it to steamroll anything. Part of the frustration. Still at this point, Ramirez is the only man down. Bradleys getting it together, but Soriano has been brutal aside from a few hot streaks. Somethings got to give.
