  1. The 2004 team was in almost certain playoff position with two weeks to go. Basiacally, were somewhere between 2004 and 2005. We just need to tell ourselves not to get excited next time these clowns beat up on the Reds and Pirates, because even if they manage to weasel there way to the wild card, they wont be facing the sub .500 teams that they're capable of beating.
  2. I was thinking the same, but I'll continue to watch with morbid fascination the suckiness of the Cubs offense Actually, I'm still here too. I hate this last week. It's so frustrating. I actually havnt watched a second of this game. I chekced the score online and that was all I needed. I was out of town all weekend and didnt catch any of the Rockies games, and its actually quite liberating not to have to sit through this garbage.
  3. This teams gone from great to bad to worse to laughable in less than a week. whats the next step?
  4. Andres Blanco was 3-5 with a double, so hes already outproduced Aaron Miles since hes been back.
  5. Didn't Hardy clear waivers? There were rumors that he was placed on waivers, but the Brewers denied the rumors. My guess is he was placed on waivers and cleared. Marmol likely wouldn't clear. Theres no way a player with Hardys age, ceiling, and salary, much less at a premium position would clear waivers. If anything, he was claimed and pulled back.
  6. I really wish I understood why other teams can part with players like this, but the Cubs refuse to admit that Aaron Miles was a mistake and let him go.
  7. So you have no romantic interest in the game is what you're saying? I wouldn't go that far, sounds like he was open to the idea, but thought better of it. The game is a [expletive]. Theres no future getting romantically involved with something you know is going to end up dissapointing you.
  8. I just hope Hendry doesnt get wind of the whole best 3B in baseball thing and offer him a 10 year 250 million dollar deal.
  9. I wouldn't even put his ceiling at Jake Fox. Ridling's never played any position but 1B and, as mentioned above, he doesn't play it particularly well. Plus, Fox actually has some semblance of patience at the plate. So we have Micah Hoffpauir on our hands.
  10. There was a rumor of trading Hardy for Harang, but I do t know if there was ever anything to it.
  11. Agreed, I would definitely give Bill Hall a shot. I dont know how it works, but if its low risk Id take the off chance that 2006 Bill Hall still exists in there. Didnt he used to be a second baseman? hmmm. I really wouldnt mind getting our hands on JJ Hardy, however.
  12. Someone said that with the amount of servce time Marmol has, he cant be optioned without other teams being able to make a claim or something like that, but the Brewers just optioned JJ Hardy, and he has more service time than Marmol.
  13. Im guessing his Brewers career could be at an end, depending how Escobar does. Bill Hall http://brewersfandemonium.yuku.com/topic/20061 Crikey, they're a bigger train wreck than we are.
  14. Is Cashner up today or tomorrow? Im very curious to see how he rebounds from that nightmare outing Sunday.
  15. Maybe if price is right. Id be all for it. His stats arent pretty this year, but the other night, I saw him gas his way through the heart of the White Sox lineup hitting 97 without trouble and they looked lost. I miss that.
  16. Of course any increased offensive production by Rios because of the Cell will be nullified by decreased pitching production by Peavy. That doesnt really make sense. Peavy will do what he does every 5th day. While I dont see him doing what he did in the NL, he'll still be a significant upgrade over what they have. Rios and Peavy are both part of a rebuilding process which will see guys like Konerko, Dye, Thome, Contreres, and AJ leaving town in the next 2 years.
  17. What if nobody takes Miles? Why wouldnt anyone take Miles? hes a switch hitter who can play multiple infield positions. Thats why Hendry had to jump on him early before the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets started offering him 6 year deals.
  18. In all seriousness, they need to make improvements this off season. If this is 2004, I realy dont want to sit through 2005 and 2006 all over again. I dont think I can take it. Say to hell with it and make a move for Roy Halladay.
  19. IIRC, the downfall of the 2004 team was not being able to beat bad teams. I remember a very unpleasant series against Montreal in early September of 2004 that pissed me right the [expletive] off. That's so crazy you mention that series. I was just thinking back to that series the other day. I remember Lee blasting a home run in the 1st, then Wood giving up like 8 ER's against the Expos. We ended up losing that series. :banghead: What year was it when we were facing the Mets and they hit 2 grand slams in 2 innings? and then another vs. the Mets when then closer Dempster had something like a 6 or 7 run lead in the 9th and it slipped away like nothing? Bother were between 2004-2006 I want to say that game where the Mets scored like 5 in the 9th was actually 2007. That was one hell of a painful loss, though. We were cruising right along, then couldn't do anything right in the 9th. Santo just about keeled over in the booth. I don't know about the 2 grand slam game, though. I will forever remember the game that LaTroy blew in New York in 2004, though. One of those games where I'll never forget where I was when the season died. After that game I knew we didn't have a chance. As I recall, that walk off was off the bat of a rookie shortstop who they said grew up idolizing Sammy Sosa. Im not quite sure what happened to that kid. I think his name was Reyes. Jose Reyes sounds about right.
  20. The good news is the Cubs can probably score 4-6 runs off of Pedro. The bad news is the Phillies can probably score 10-15 runs off of Samardzjia.

  22. Maybe. How many of the remaining games are against teams above .500? Not alot, but then again, the Cardinals dont have a lot either. Im focusing on the Wild Card race. In the past month or so, they Cardinals have been transformed from a very lucky team to a very good team.
