  1. Looks like Jake Fox is having another monster spring training. 9 HR, .328/1.175. I'm rooting for him. If nothing else, he has a decent chance to be a solid 1 dimensional power hitter.
  2. Note to self: buy lottery ticket next time Darwin Barney plays.
  3. Mike Quade, to quote the immortal knight from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you have chosen...wisely.
  4. I guess it depends on how he does in the minors this year. A lot have people are very high on him, but this isn't Bryce Harper were talking about. I don't think any team would keep a guy that raw on their big league roster. However, if he does tear it up this year, we should definitely add him. Its not like we havny wasted 40 man spots before. As far as I know, Chad Fox is still on it somewhere.
  5. Hopefully they let him go for somebody else to enjoy.
  6. According to a tweet from MLBTR or Rotoworld, I forget which, the Red Sox are seeking rotation depth. If ever there's a team who could.afford to take 300lbs of dead weight off our hands and maybe send us a few mil or a decent prospect, its them. Granted he wouldn't fare too well in the AL East, but hey, its worth a shot. Hopefully they were scouting his start vs. The A's and missed the rest of them.
  7. Was I the only one disappointed that Silva had a good start the other day? Just when I thought he had pitched himself off this team clearing a spot in the rotation for Cashner, he goes and pitches well. Belive me, all of us wanted to see him get rocked and sent packing, but if they insist on giving him the rotation spot, Cashner would be better off starting in Iowa than in the pen.
  8. My thinking is that if they weren't seriously weighing their options at backup C, Castillo and Ramirez would have both been gone in the last round of cuts. You can only expect so much from a backup catcher offensively, but Hill would be lucky to bat Tara Reids weight and OPS Snookies.
  9. I don't know so much about Barneys OBP, but he has decent speed, so is there a chance of him hitting leadoff?
  10. Casey Coleman should be starting in Iowa. Cashner should be starting in Chicago, if not, Iowa.
  11. The fact is, we dont know what Ramirez can do with the bat, but otherwise, coming off the bench we'll have: DeWitt/Baker Colvin/Fukudome Barney Reed Johnson Koyie Hill Aside from maybe Colvin, not a lot of power going on there. The fact that we have 4 outfielders suggests that we're better off with Ramirezes bat than Reed Johnson crashing into walls when he comes in as a defensive replacement for Soriano in the 8th inning. Whether you like Reed Johnson or not, and I did, at least in 2008, he has little to no chance of staying healthy for extended periods of time.
  12. I think that's because if a catcher sucks at hitting, people automatically assume he's good defensively. Jason Kendall is my favorite example. He was always considered a great hitter with an awful glove when he was in Pittsburgh. Now all the talking heads wont shut up about what a great defender he is. On the flip side, theres Paul Bako. I dont remember much about his defense, just that every time he came to bat, you could safely assume that there would be 1-2 more outs than there were before.
  13. I have a feeling we'll find a way to hide Ramirez. Probably DL him to start the year. He could play [Tom Hanks' voice] BACKUP CATCHERRR! But wouldn't want to waste his potential in that spot he'd get more at bats on the DL. I dont see why he cant just be a bat off the bench. We carried both Cliff Floyd and Daryl Ward who essentially had no position. Why not Ramirez, who can be given looks at 1B, outfield, and emergency catcher?
  14. Are we talking Rey Ordonez or Rey Sanchez?
  15. Just out of curiosity, whats the difference between being optioned to AAA and reassigned to minor league camp? And I really hope that they find a space for Max Ramirez. I really dont like our bench which has been somewhat of a strength in the past.
  16. Latest round of cuts per Bruce Miles: Matt Camp, Scott Moore, Augie Doggie, Fernando Perez, and the unsinkable Bobby Scales. Again, the tweet said "cuts", so I don't know if they were sent to the minors or what.
  17. The Yanks have been using him out of the pen, so judging by his history of injury, that could be his best bet. Can you imagine the back of that pen if they had Prior, Joba, Soriano, and Rivera all at full strength?
  18. the Nats have like 12 starting pitchers now And Livan Hernandez tops the list. Good luck with that Nats.
  19. No further starts for Cash. What the hell has Looper done to even enter the conversation? The options from the get go should have been Cashner, Coleman, Carpenter, and Jackson. While this team could surprise a lot of people, I dont see it being the year, so they really should be auditioning guys who could be really good for the future. Even if Silva can be an OK 5th starter, which is asking a lot from him, his future with the organization ends this fall if not sooner. They're wasting time and talent.
  20. Havnt seen this posted here yet, but according to a Bruce Miles tweet, Todd Wellemeyer was cut, and Guzman, Berg, and John Maine were sent down today. And I really hope that Quades smart enough not to let a solid outing vs. a weak lineup give Silva the last rotation spot.
  21. I can see them having a solid season this year, but once Prince leaves, and the other dominos start falling over the next few years, these guys are pretty much fucked. It wasnt too long ago that their system was stacked, but then they decided they were going to run things like a big market team.
  22. How can the Pirates be so low when theyve pretty much had a top 5-10 pick every year for the past 20 years?
  23. Youd think hed have to waive his NTC by now. If the options were be buried at the bottom of the bullpen by the Cubs or be traded to a team who might give him a bigger role Im sure hed take it.
  24. What did they want besides Vitters anyway? As I recall, we traded Pie to Baltimore for some guy who the Padres had their eye on. When the Peavy deal was dead, we traded that guy and Cedeno to Seattle for Heilman. Could be wrong though.
  25. Whoever starts the season with the 6th and 7th bullpen apots doesnt bug me all that much. Best case scenerio is their a solid inning eater/mop up guy. Worst case scenerio, they're awful, and they get rid of them and call up someone who will be equally awful or perhaps try J Jax or Carpenter in the pen. Is Guzman going to be ready anytime soon? As for Johnson, I remember him being a pretty good fielder, but its been a few years. I remember him becoming an instant fan fav when he made that one bad ass catch vs. Washintgon in a game we lost anyway. Fernando Perez is supposed to be a pretty good fielder, but hes worthless with the bat. If they're going to keep both Koyie Hill and Perez, I hope that they also have the good sense to carry Max Ramirez for his bat, or at least the potential of it because otherwise, were going to have one powerless bench.
