  1. Depressing day for the Smokies aside from LaMahieu and the solid start from McNutt. Im really hoping for Vitters to do his best to not become the second coming of Ryan Harvey.
  2. I wouldn't have. That at bat was awful. Putz just walked a guy on four pitches. Baker jumps on his first pitch. The pitcher is in trouble. I hope someday we get a GM who values patient hitters. Not one that allows one of his more patient and productive hitters to hit 8th. I didn't say it was a good at bat just that I trust Baker there more than Dewitt right now. If you can't trust DeWitt to hit there though then he really has no spot on the roster. I cant tell if DeWitt is wasting the roster spot, or if this roster spot is wasting DeWitt. Now if DeWitt were given a regular playing time, hed more than likely put up his career numbers, avg. around .260, OPS in the .700s, and a handfull of home runs maybe even a bit better making the change from Dodger stadium to Wrigley. However, this is a guy whose used to being an everyday player, or at least half of a platoon at every stop in his career but all of the sudden, hot starts by Barney and Baker have turned him into the 25th man on the roster, a spot he isnt familiar with and isnt adapting to. I feel wed be better off with somebody like Marquez Smith or Bobby Scales with that job and maybe see if we cant get something, anything for DeWitt in trade.
  3. They already announced that Russell is starting Monday and they don't need a 5th starter again until May 14th. My guess is that if Wells isn't ready by then we will get Doug Davis until he is. Well Russells horrible, and Coleman isn't much better. Be it Jackson or Davis, they're going to need to bring in somebody resembling a major league starter, especially with Dempster being an insta-loss as well. Doug Davis probably needs to get a rehab start or 2 at AA or AAA first before being ready. It's a shame Jackson wasn't ready health-wise when Cashner and Wells got hurt. He`is now, and despite his rough start today, theres no reason for him not to start next time either the Russell spot comes up. They cant just go giving away games when there are other options available.

  5. He's tied with Halladay for the lead in pitcher WAR, already better than all of last season. Insane. Yeah, my initial dislike of this trade looks silly. but...but...FULD! In all seriousness, condidering the state of 3/5 of our rotation, its looking like a great trade.
  6. Don't use the word "prospect" when talking about a player/coach, even as a joke. Because it will be a bad joke. The "75 year old" part was hilarious and original though!! Never besmirch the name of Smaily Borges. NEVER!
  7. And Luke Scott popped out of nowhere with a bag of banana chips.
  8. Did Jeff Bakers shoulder injury look serious? Should we expect to see Bobby Scales in the very near future?
  9. Back to back wins, back to back quality starts. Were on to something.
  10. I always wondered what it would be like if Ryan Theriot were better at defense, base running, and being asian.
  11. Wow, this is one hell of a game thread weve got going. And game day said Jeff Baker left with an injured shoulder. What happened there?
  12. Looks like Pena has made his way into the casa de pero.
  13. Yeah, Kosuke, Baker, Soriano, and Barney have been some of the most worthless pieces of [expletive] in organized sports so far.
  14. Good to see Brett with a multi hit game again.
  15. cool should have been green fonted as well. you get the picture.
  16. That and the wact that he has his way cool clothing line to fall back on.
  17. You think Kerry Wood is garbage? I love the guy and am glad he's on the team but that has a lot more to do with his history and name than what I expect out of him on the mound. No, he's personally not garbage. Have you even watched him pitch this year, because if you did, youd know that there arent many teams who wouldnt want him as their 3rd best guy out of the pen, especially for 1.5 mil. Look at some of the contracts that teams have handed out to random middle relievers who arent fit to tie Woods shoe this past oddseason.
  18. Hey, look at that, the D Backs are picking up where they left off. Try to only lose by 2 or 3 runs tonight Cubs. baby steps.
  19. I just checked the box score to learn that 1 of the Cubs 2 runs was a Koyie Hill solo shot. Good to see he made his 1 home run of the year count. Since it was in the 7th, ill assume it was off the D Backs equivalent of Justin Berg.
  20. I'd hate this post even it were accurate. Good news is, it's not. Wood is not garbage by any means. Mateo isn't a shut down guy, but he's not exactly garbage either. The rest of the dregs are pretty much the same things you see as the leftovers in pretty much any big league pen.
  21. So are we going to get shut down by Mr. Almost Perfect again?
  22. It was pretty obvious a long time ago. It was obvious our top 3 pitchers would suck and our next 2 would get hurt? What else you got Kreskin? Z and Demp for sure, but I don't see Garza. He's been pretty awesome. That being said, your point stands. Well I meant collectively since everyone (except for the omniscent like gooney and Truffle (I HOPE WE LOSE EVERY GAME FOR A GOOD DRAFT PICK!)) figured our top 3 starters were locks to be above average at worst. And while Garza's peripherals have been phenomenal, they haven't translated to success on the mound as of yet. I definitely thought that pitching as a whole would be our strength. Nobody was ever going to confuse it with the Phillies or Giants rotations, but they should have been, and still should be very solid, especially if we had Wells and Cashner, top to bottom we were very solid. Add in the back of the pen, and our pitching was looking good. Also, of Samamrdzjia can continue to not be awful, Carpenter can come up and dominate like he has been in Iowa, and we can get Guzman back, that is a very nice pen.
  23. I think hes been getting time in the OF as well this year, not quite sure. Either way, I think we should start looking at him as a legit prospect, as he is seeing the same pitching as Jackson, Flaherty, and Vitters. Also, in a minor league thread, someone mentioned that hes "not a complete disaster in the OF." I just read the box scores, and dont always pay attention to the positions.
  24. He's not. He made 3 million last year. He makes 6.5 million next year. If the Cubs want both Pujols and Ramirez, they'll probably have to trade Byrd and go with both Jackson and Colvin in the OF. That depends on how they would backload the contract for Pujols though. Aw, crap, I read that wrong. Should have known it was too good to be true. If we did go with Colvin, and Im not ready to give up on him, I would like to have a solid righty backup, even if it is Reed Johnson. Theres the Iowa slug monsters, or perhaps Rebel Ridling can leap frog those guys. Ridling also can play 1B, although I dont know how well, but if we sign Fielder or Pujols, that will be irrelavant.
