  1. I'm assuming you were being sarcastic when you refered to Blake Lalli as a young guy. I'm not exactly sure how old he is, but I believe his college roommate was Gil Hodges.
  2. Sometimes, waking up to a W is as good as watching one. I am however beginning to worry a bit about Castro. I really havnt caught much of any of these night games, but how has he looked? Has he been making solid contact and having decent at bats?
  3. Dempster hasnt allowed a run through 1, so he could be on to something.
  4. I was follwing through gameday, and judging by all of the borderline calls on the at bats to Pierre and Dunn that weant in their favor, the ump wanted no part of it.
  5. And now its through 9! Congrats to Liriano, who was reportedly 1 bad start away from losing his spot in the rotation. Guess he gets to keep it.
  6. I dont know why I have to be dragged into this, but my preference is to keep starting Pena, hope he heats up, trade him for what we can in July(assuming were out of it by then) and sign Pujols or Fielder in the winter. Colvin and Lahair need not apply, unless were talking about a 2 month filler from July-September.
  7. What in the hell? Yeah Russells 10.05 ERA as a starter is a sign of a really nice job. The only question is is Quade defending Russell or himself.
  8. What happened to Doug Davis? Aw [expletive], this is why we won't roster Jay Jackson isn't it. Because we have to save a spot for Doug [expletive] Davis or Ramon [expletive] Ortiz, and heaven forbid we lost Brian [expletive] Schlitter or Thomas [expletive] Diamond. [expletive]. Yeah, I'm quite confident that any of those guys would safely make it through waivers, not that it would matter if they didn't. On the position player front, I'm not sure who all is on the 40 man, but Fernando Perez strikes me as a guy who could be removed. And why is Schllitter even on it anymore? I know he boomeranged back to us, but that doesn't mean he has to take up a 40 man spot.
  9. Who knows, maybe Dempster won't be awful tonight. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
  10. I dont think it takes a seasoned, veteran manager to think to himself you know, maybe next time I should try somebody else.
  11. Fred McGriff and Henry Rodriguez are the two that come to mind. No clue on the third. Rick mutha [expletive] Wilkins FTW!
  12. US Navy Seals were able to hunt down Osama Bin laden, but the Cubs are unable to hunt down a suitable replacement for James Russell. US Navy Seals 1 Cubs 0
  13. Do switch hitter count? If so, how about Aaron Miles?
  14. They probably figure we aint beating Kershaw, so why bother. What difference does it make if we lose 4-1 or 12-1?
  15. It was a Friday night. here's a link to the only weekend/going out night game the cubs played in 2008. you may note that the thread is 31 pages long. it appears the shortest game thread from april 2009 was 11 pages long. If you think this game thread was weak, just wait until tonight when at 9:10 PM CST the Cubs send out James Russell to face Clayton Kershaw, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and the Dodgers.
  16. I dont know, theyre starting to remind me of the 2008 Tigers, remember, they had Cabrera, Ordonez, Sheffield, Granderson, Guillen, Pudge, Polanco, and Jacque Jones up and down the lineup, and everyone thought they couldnt possibly be as bad as they were, and it turned out that they were.
  17. Wow. Still, without that trade, our rotation would be even more of a mess than it is now. think Zambrano, Dempster, Silva, Coleman, Russell. this is true. you probably do not want to look up brandon guyer's numbers either. archer, on the other hand, has been bad. ...and Fuld has been OK too. Whataver becomes of Fuld or Chirinos, you really cant hold that against Hendry. They were destined to be spare parts as long as they were in the organization.
  18. He did dumpster dive for 1B. Nick Johnson would have been dumpster diving. Pena was the team and the player taking a gamble with each other. The Cubs took a gamble that Pena could go back to his pre 2010 ways. Pena took a gamble with the 1 year deal with the hopes that he could get back to his pre-2010 numbers and land a long term contract in 2012. Pena probably could have landed something similar to what LaRoche with Washington if he held out.
  19. So they're going to try out Lorick as a starter, huh? Interesting.
  20. So are they going to wait for Wells and Cashner to end this dreadfull little Coleman/Russell experiment? Dempsters been just as awful, but hes earned the right to figure things out unless hes injured. The other 2 have not. Every time one of those 2 start, we can assume they'll go 3-4 innings, 5 max and give up 4-5 runs, and thats before Berg comes in and gives up another 2-3. They need to make a change. The other options may not be much better, but you need to give them a chance. Be it Jackson or even McNutt, or hope for 2-3 starts worth or lightening in a bottle from Doug Davis or Ramon Ortiz, we simply cant have 2 of these guaranteed losses in the rotation. 1 is hard enough to swallow, but this division is winnable enough that they need to at least try other options.
  21. Wow. Hendry wMay have been a bit too generous with the package, considering that it seemed better than the one that landed the Brewers a former Cy Young winner.
