  1. Great win. Im going to go out on a limb and say that DeWitt gets the start at 2B with Castro at SS tomorrow.
  2. its getting close to game time. No thread. Casey Coleman vs. Bronson Arroyo. Cubs lineup Fukudome RF Barney SS Byrd CF Aramis 3B Pena 1B Soto C DeWitt 2B Colvin LF Coleman P Thats all I got. No thrills, no frills. No cats on swings or naked Steve Stone.
  3. Theres a difference between being the future of a team and having a future with the team. Hendry has said that Colvin is his RF of the future. If that doesnt pan out, next year they could easily go Sori-Jackson-Byrd across the OF though, but Byrds gone after 2012.
  4. Are they just rotating Flaherty through every position? It says he was 1B in this game, and has been SS(his original position), 3B, and outfield a few times. Are they grooming him into a super sub?
  5. We will have a decent amount of money coming off the books after this year, and as far as free agent offensive targets, Pujols and Fielder are it. However, assume that we miss out on them. Pujols signs some massive extension in St. Louis, and we lose a bidding war for Fielder. Assuming that the Cards to resign Pujols, it likely means the end of Adam Wainwright in St. Louis. Would this make him a target for us? We do have a very solid rotation with young guys coming up, but no legit ace. Wainwright would give us that ace, assuming hes fully recovered from TJS. Another possible option is CC Sabathia if he walks away from the Yanks, although I cant imagine them letting him walk.
  6. As far as both Tyler Colvin and Blake DeWitt go, I understand that they have both gotten off to very rough starts, and that they share positions with players who have gotten off to very good ones. This has led to very little playing time for both players. This being said, they are both young players with potential, especially Colvin who has been dubbed as the RF of the future. If Quade is going to just stash these 2 at the end of the bench, they need to be sent to Iowa where they can play everyday, and we can just call up a few of our AAAAers to rot away at the end of the bench. Its not like LaHair, Montanez, Snyder, Scales, Smith, or whoever else cant do what Colvin and DeWitt have done so far, which is nothing. The difference is, these guys really have no future with the Cubs as opposed to Colvin and DeWitt who very well might.
  7. Ruby Silva and Nelson Perez are both catching my eye. Also although he hasnt played and probably wont this year, Im quite intrigued with A.J. Morris. When you go after a guy like that in a trade, knowing he wont pitch this year he must have a solid upside.
  8. Most of the guys they have we could have had if we were willing to spend big on the draft. Hopefully Ricketts will be willing to do so. take nothing away from the royals - they've done great to go well above slot to grab talents like myers, crow, dwyer, hosmer, etc, but they've also had the advantage of being consistently lousy and drafting at the front of each round. players like hosmer, moustakas and crow were not available when we were drafting. plus even their slot picks have had an above-average number of hits lately. they're doing the draft right... cubs are not. When you have a top 5 pick pretty much every year, your bound to put a team together eventually. See Rays, Tampa Bay.
  9. Are you refering to Fuld or Guyer?
  10. I know this isnt the general Cubs sentiment, but my Brewers hate outweighs my Cardinals hate, which is still strong. I spent 4 years going to school in Wisconsin, and everytime a Wisconsin team beats a Chicago team, they act like they just won the Super Bowl/World Series/NBA Championship. After they took the Super Bowl, I couldnt bear them getting the World Series too.
  11. Afer June 1st for sure. This move is gonna cost them a lot of money, but they had to do it. Eric was hitting .439. I imagine Duffy is next. This would be the time to do it. The Indians are better than everyone thought, but arent likely to keep up their pace. The White Sox and Twins are burying themselves, so that division is very winnable, and the Royals can own it for the next 3-5 years, or whenever these guys start heading to New York and Boston.
  12. If it has to happen, Im glad its vs. the Brewers.
  13. Jay with a rough outing. 4.1 IP, 5 ER 8 H 3 BB 2 K. Id still prefer him 100X over Russell.
  14. Is there anything wrong with him, or is it just a scheduling error? It's not a scheduling error because Hung-Wen Chen isn't normally a starter. Could be that blister bothering him again. I remember when one of those kept Wood out of action for a little while in '08.
  15. Brett has an HR and a BB so far. After his 2 2Bs yesterday, it looks like he could be out of that little slump he was in. Flaherty has a 3B and LaMahieu a 2B.
  16. I have been getting cautiously optimistic about him lately. I doubt he'll ever live up to the contract he was given, but he could prove to be a solid compliment to our steller back of the pen.
  17. Is there anything wrong with him, or is it just a scheduling error?
  18. Garza may not have had his best game, but the key to this game was the lack of clutch hitting, whether or not there is such a thing.
  19. Why the [expletive] didn't Barney bunt? My GOD I want to punch Quade in his ghastly face.
  20. Let's see if these 3 can redeem themselves from the last mess.
  21. At least they're not stranding baserunners anymore.
  22. Nice start for Kirk, 6.1 IP, 6 K 1 BB 4 H 1 ER. Szczur went 2-5 with a BB.
  23. If the Cubs have a few runs left in them, this would probably be the time. I dont think they want any piece of Chapman because he is sure to make them look silly.
  24. beat youuuu Kosuke, Barney, and Castro should have at least been able to sratch 1 run across.
