  1. Yeah, it was posted in the transactions thread yesterday I think. Blake Parker was bumped to Iowa.
  2. http://twitter.com/#!/CarrieMuskat/status/71682350718779394 [expletive].
  3. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110519&content_id=19299478&vkey=draftcentral2011 Cole goes 1st. Rendon falls to the O's at 4th Lindor goes to KC at 5 Cubs nab Starling at 9 :beg:
  4. Let's see if they can keep the epic 2(should or at least could have been 4) game win streak alive.
  5. This. Its far from an elite system, but I doubt most teams 7-10 prospects are projected to anything but average players at best. In some teams, even more so. When your a big market team like The Cubs, this works out well, because you can go out and sign a superstar or 2 and use these guys to build around. Of course it would be nice to be like the Yankees and Red Sox when you can sign and trade for stars and produce your own as well.
  6. I don't find it ugly at all. LaMahieu and Flaherty may never be superstars, but both seem like the type of players that could be decent pieces in the long run.
  7. Seems overly whiney considering in just the past couple years the farm system has given us our best player, 3/5 of our (original) rotation, 3/7 of our bullpen, a few other regulars, and still has the guy who will most likely be our starting CF next year, another guy with a very good shot of being in the rotation next year and several other guys who will probably make the majors at some point. When you put it that way, it's not nearly as bad. But it is a pretty uninspiring group based on current production and potential ceilings. I liek what we have on the farm, and we do have a lot of guys that should be solid pieces for the future, especially if we get Pujols or Fielder to build around, but our system really could use an elite type prospect, and Bubba Starling could be that guy. Of course, many of us thought the same about Josh Vitters when we drafted him. Teams seem to be locking up their young stars like Votto, Braun, Tulo, and Longoria a lot more these days, so you cant just assume that you can nab your guys via free agency.

  9. hmm, not feeling right after a weekend long graduation party. I can put 2 and 2 togther.
  10. Make that 5-5 for Bour. As for Lake, I still have hopes for him. Hes finally hitting consistantly. If he can start taking some walks, he can move his way up the prospects list. And where the hell is Szczur? Is he injured or not? If not, hes been at that graduation shindig for about a week now.
  11. If they really feel that Starling is the real deal, I could definitely see them shelling out for him. Everyone knows they have the money. The last think I want to see is him falling 2 spots down to the Brewers. If not, the Mets would surely grab him up.
  12. As far as disappointment goes, no question Id go with 2008. As far as choke jobs, '03s right up there with '84 and the wrongfully glorified '69.
  13. According to Rotoworld, both Berkman(wrist) and Holliday(quad) left last nights game with injuries. Of course the Cardinals being the Cardinals, both will miss 1-3 games, and they'll win 2 of them. If not, good for the Reds and maybe Brewers.
  14. Hopefully this is the last Coleman start we have to endure.
  15. I don't know, it makes sense to me. Aside from Jackson, Flaherty(who I could see becoming a super sub), LaMahieu, and maybe McNutt who could be able to contribute fairly soon, I see a lot of young, high ceiling guys. Most of the guys we were tracking this time last year Castro-big leagues Cashner-big leagues Archer-traded Guyer-traded Lee-traded J. Jackson-struggling Carpenter-struggling Coleman-big leagues Barney-big leagues Castillo-big leagues Basically, its a new wave.
  16. Kurcz was quite impressive as usual. 5 IP, 0 ER 1 H 1 BB 2 K. This guys been nothing but good since we drafted him last year. Could he be the next one up to Tennessee?
  17. Sure looks as though Hill is our everyday catcher until Sotos back.
  18. Not a bad day overall for the Smokes Ha 2-5 Flaherty 2-4 2B, BB Ridling 2-3 HR, BB Marco Carillo, whose seemingly been hanging around the system for all eternity despite being only 24 is putting together a nice season. He could end up back in Iowa sooner than later.
  19. If having one of the best offenses in baseball isn't bringing people in, I can't imagine the announce team making much of a difference.
  20. But its not like he missed that much time. Wasn't it like 1-2 starts? I guess its more encouraging that both times they pulled him after an inning than in the middle of one.

  22. Wells will be making his next start in Iowa. Hopefully we have only one more Coleman start to endure.
  23. This conversation makes me think of Roger Dorn showing Lou Brown the clause in his contract that states he doesnt have to do any extra calisthenics, and Lou pissing on the contract.
