  1. OK, then from what I can gather, Jackson and Teahen are going to Toronto for Frasor and prospect(s). Toronto will then flip Jackson and probably more to the Cards for Rasmus. It makes much more sense than the earlier reported Jackson and Teahen for Frasor+prospects trade. Looks like the 1st part is a done deal Looks like this deal could work ou for everyone Jays get Rasmus, a guy who could be huge in the future. Cards get a very solid starting pitcher and some prospects Sox bolster an already very good bullpen and they dump some salary on Teahen.
  2. Clears it up a bit. Sox probably just get the salary of Tehan off the books and a few prospects. Maybe Frasor.
  3. Looks like the deal is going to happen. Jackson, Rasmus, Tehan, and Frasor appear to be involved, but cant quite figure out who goes where. Jackson and Frasor both make sense for The Cards. Rasmus could fit in with either the Jays or Sox, and I think Tehans just a salary dump.
  4. Z may not be the ace hes paid to be, but all the same, a middle of the rotation pitcher, which is what he is is probably more valuable than whatever we get for him if were still eating 95% of his salary. Even with Soriano, hes probably more valuable even as a bench bat than getting a pile of junk and still eating 95%.
  5. No this I find somewhat baffling. If the Blue Jays were contenders, it would be a good deal. If Edwin Jackson were not a rent a player, it would makes sense. The Jays could get better value as far as prospects go for Frasor. The Sox could get better value for Jackson. Im just not getting this one on either side.
  6. for what its worth, Im sure that if given the choice, the Braves would have rather lost the game but not Brian McCann.
  7. FWIW, and I know it isnt much, but Gordon Wittenmyer expects the Cubs to trade 3-5 guys, but most of it will happen closer to the final hour than the next few days.
  8. Are smart players the new gritty players? They need to do something to offset the fact that they aren't as talented as the stars.
  9. The thing about hitting coaches is that I can understand them helping the younger players, but when it comes to the veterans who have sone things one way for their entire careers, more often than not, they're not going to change their approach.
  10. If nothing else, he showed us 1st hand why Blake DeWitts OBP is barely above his AVG.
  11. Nice game for Dempster, but unfortunately, when you pitch for The Cubs, you can't afford yourself a rough 1st. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a baseball season less, and yes, this includes those messes of the 90s
  12. That and the fact that were not playing the Astros again.
  13. Huh, a few minutes ago I was listening on the radio and we had the bases loaded with 0 out. I had to check out for a few, and surprise, surprise, they for nothing out of it. So many reasons why this "team" is where it is.
  14. Nothing. Just makes you want to root for the guy, somewhat.
  15. Rough Raley has disappointed but he's been better lately. Coleman is filler at this point. Harman is a little intriguing. Reed is 19 years old and in his 1st full season as a professional.
  16. OK, now I guess I hope Casey McGhee succeeds. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110725&content_id=22266460&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb Id still prefer it be with a different team though.
  17. There you go, just leave him in MIlwaukee when they head out.
  18. You make it sound as though all you need to do is go out and get a failed prospect, and PRESTO, hole filled. Lets go jump on Jeff Clement, Andy Laroche, and Matt Bush and we'll be good. I do agree that its a good idea to try and aquire these kinds of guys when they become available, but you cant count on them being anything more than role players or AAAA guys. Im sure for every one of the guys on your list, there are plenty more who another team has auditoned and they never made it off the bench or AAA.
  19. I think Reed and Pena have good to very good chances of being traded. Somebody might give a PTBNL and cash or Grabow too, perhaps. Trade or not, theres really no reason to have Grabow on this team. Russells been far superior, and we also have Gaub, Maine, and Beliveau waiting in the wings. LOOGYs are always moveable, though you arent likely to get much for them, and Grabow has done a decent job vs. lefties this year, holding them to a .238/.314/.365 where righties have looked like all stars with a .297/.386/.559.
  20. They probably won't ever contend considering all those monster, bloated, never-ending contracts they have weighing them down. At least the world is ending next December, so we only have 1 more full season to endure.
  21. we use it up on no-upside stiffs like Koyie Hill, Montanez, Reed Johnson instead, and the Red Sox found spots for Saltalamacchia, Andrew Miller, Rocco Baldelli, Rich Hill, Matt Albers, Franklin Morales, Jeremy Hermida on their roster but what the [expletive] do they know? We simply havent had room for them on our roster. Weve gone through Diamond, as well as John Ford-Griffin and Brian LaHair, both of whom were one time fairly highly touted prospects, as well as picking up of own past busts in Lou Montanez and Jason DuBois. Its one thing to pick these guys up, but another to offer them full playing time, which is what you really need to do to get the most out of these guys. Of course theres also the chance, probably a bigger chance that the player will continue to be a bust rather than blossom into a star, so unless your simply out of contention, most teams dont want to risk making someone like that an everyday player. This being said, we are out of contention, so maybe LaHair and Montanez will get a chance once the deadline passes and Fukudome and Pena have found new homes.
  22. I ain't accusing you of anything, but what did Patterson, Jacque Jones and Bradley all have in common? . Oooh...ooooh....oooooh....I know this. They were all Chicago Cubs outfielders of the '00s. What do I win?
  23. As long as they're willing to spend that money, so I guess what it all boils sown to is that if they aren't willing to spend, they won't go after either.
