  1. Did you read the post above yours? Posted 2 minutes apart - I'm guessing the first post wasn't up when WSR went to make his post. This is correct.
  2. Brett was 2-4 with a 2B. Flaherty also had a 2B. Jay was solid going 6IP giving up 2ER on 3H with 1BB and 5K.
  3. It's always wise to take any performance in the PCL with a grain of salt, but it's nice to see considering the struggles he had after the hand injury. Still, I'd like to see him reduce the K at AAA down around 20%. From everything I've heard, he'll always be a guy who Ks a lot, and walks a lot.
  4. Without a doubt, and I really like Maples. Tell me more about Maples. Is he a 1st round talent, 2nd round talent? I know little about him, but all the hype makes me really hope we get the guy. Is he worth Szczur money? Samrdzjia money?
  5. Flaherty also with a HR. I'd really like to see him get going in Iowa.
  6. After going 3-5, Candelerio is hitting .342/.911. Will he be making his way up to Boise, or even Peoria any time soon? One thing our system really seems to lack is 3B prospects, especially at the A levels.
  7. Blast me for this if you will, but if we were to sign all of these overslots, and miss out on Baez, would it be the worst thing in the world? don't get me wrong, he seems very intriguing, but doesn't excite me as much as most of the other top ten picks in the draft, and if we were to miss out on him, we'd end up with 2 top ten picks next year, which would be sweet as long as we didn't use them on any Cubans in their late 20's.
  8. http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/03ra8ym03k4j7/x610.jpg Very classy of him to take a moment to pose with a young fan. I'll bet that kid has this pic all over his facebook page and his locker at the junior high.
  9. At this moment, he leads the NL in Hits, At Bats, Outs Made, and Errors.
  10. Vitters 3-6 with 2 2B in the double header. Ha was 4-7 with 2 2B and boosted his BA to an even .300. Belevieu Kd 4 in 1.2 innings of work, so a pretty good DH at Tennessee.
  11. That and a solid outing from Garza, and that's really all that matters at this point.
  12. He fell both last year and this year due to signability concerns. He was rated top 10 round talent (kind of ambiguous in and of itself since doesn't specify where in the top 10 rounds) by the industry in both drafts. And you're right, the odds are stacked against a 10th rounder (or even a 3rd rounder) panning out but they are better than a 25th rounder panning out. Hell, I'm sure you know how poor the chances are a first rounder pans out. Doesn't stop people from following Baez and Maples in here. Even with 1st rounders there's no guarantee, unless you're talking about a Bryce Harper or Steven Strasburg type uber prospect. If you were to take a look at the 1st rounds over the past 15 years, there are a handfull who turned out great, your share of role players, and a handfull of guys you've probably never heard of and likely never will.
  13. Any recent news on Baez, Vogelsbach, or Zych?
  14. There are 3 divisions: The NL Central, NL West, and AL Central that are just downright bad. I suppose that could have something to do with it. maybe not.
  15. and how did that turn out for the cubs? certainly none of those big contracts have hurt the cubs in the past few years. but hey, we were pretty for 2 years in a row, so who cares. Well they won the division, and in one of those years even lead the whole NL in wins. So....good? The only big contract hurting the Cubs is the Soriano one, IMO. MAYBE the Zambrano one, but at 30 he's got plenty of time to turn it around. Even if people are to argue that Jim Hendry is the only Cubs GM to ever take them to 3 playoff appearences and 2 in a row, the fact is that he's also the only Cubs GM to be given the kind of open checkbook that he was, and considering that The Cubs are the lone big market team in the division, he really should have been able to do more.
  16. Was Abreu anything special at any point? There must be some reason they chose him in the Kosuke trade. They picked Abreu IMO because of his athleticism. He was rated to have the best outfield arm in the Indians organization last year. He has 6 triples and 19 SB already this year so his speed must be plus. He has some pop in his bat (13 HR this year). He's got some tools-the problem is that he either has to improve his strikeout rate or improve his power significantly to be successful at higher levels (and it will probably have to be the strikeout rate first). So I take it he's not some super high ceiling guy that the Indians gave up on early like Archer?
  17. I don't mind the splurge, I just hope it doesn't mean that we missed out on a higher target like Vogelbach or Maples.
  18. No reason to believe that he won't. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100828054703/uncyclopedia/images/b/b5/Exploding-head.gif Are we still on this or had you just been spending a few hours looking for the ideal gif? Johnson has been a very solid bench player all year, and yes, I have no reason to think that he'll just suddenly fall off a cliff, assuming he remains in the same role he has been in. Saying there's no reason to believe that he won't is far from guaranteeing that he will.
  19. Was Abreu anything special at any point? There must be some reason they chose him in the Kosuke trade.
  20. I guess whoever we sign, we sign and we'll know this time next week.
  21. It's because we got actual value out of that trade. That's my point. Much like Sutcliff, up until the trade, Broglio was a very solid pitcher. It wasn't until after he was traded to The Cubs that he fell off. Had he been a quality player, like Sutcliff was, this trade would not be so infamous. It's not like they traded Brock for a complete piece of garbage. Judging by Broglios stats as a Cardinal, much like Sutcliff, he looked like a front of the rotation type pitcher. Now had Sutcliff started getting hurt and bad as soon as he became a Cubs, would there by a lot more flack over trading Joe Carter?
  22. It's an organizational issue. Look at their minor league affiliates: Iowa ranks last out of 16 teams in the PCL with 353 walks. Top team (Tacoma) has 515. Tennessee ranks 8th out of 10 teams in the Southern league with 361 walks. Top team (Jacksonville) has 464, bottom team (Mississippi) has 353. Daytona ranks 9th out of 12 teams in the FSL with 333 walks. Top team (Bradenton) has 446, bottom team (Clearwater) has 285. Peoria ranks 15th out of 16 teams in the Midwest league with 297 walks. Top team (Lansing) has 431, bottom team (West Michigan) has 286. That is absolutely painful to read. Yikes. Hopefully this is something they can work on with the '10-'11 draft picks. I'd have to assume that plate dicipline is one of the harder things to learn, especially after a few years.
