I know what youre saying, but that still might not be the wisest thing for The Brewers. Its easy to look at their record and that they're 8.5 games in first place, but the fact is, while they are better than people gave them credit for, they still don't belong in the baseball elite, even with Fielder. Take away their improbable August, and they're likely neck and neck with The Cards, maybe 3.5 games up. Its also easy to look at their star players and get excited for them for years to come, but like most big league teams, they have a lot of holes. A small market team investing that money in 4-5 players is asking for trouble long term, and their best bet would be to spread that money around. They have big holes at SS and 3B as well as the bullpen. Also, in the next 2 years, they'll need to rebuild their rotation. I think Wolf is gone after this year and Marcum and/or Greinke after next. There's also the fact that a young star like Fielder, especially represented by Scott Boraa may simply prefer to move on to a bigger market. Just because Ryan Braun gave them a very team friendly deal doesn't mean that everyone will, especially Boras clients.
