  1. He was too busy tying young maidens to train tracks.
  2. According to the websites, McNutt and DelValle.
  3. Whats the deal with Oswaldo Martinez? He's been hanging around for the past 5 years, and all of the sudden, he's good. Anyone to keep an eye on?
  4. http://www.foxsportsnorth.com/09/09/11/Cuddyers-homers-saved-teammate-on-911/landing_twins.html?blockID=562384&feedID=5930 Not sure if this belonged more in baseball discussion or social.
  5. So Coletti and Lamar are good. Maybe they were Fleita and Wilken.
  6. I know what youre saying, but that still might not be the wisest thing for The Brewers. Its easy to look at their record and that they're 8.5 games in first place, but the fact is, while they are better than people gave them credit for, they still don't belong in the baseball elite, even with Fielder. Take away their improbable August, and they're likely neck and neck with The Cards, maybe 3.5 games up. Its also easy to look at their star players and get excited for them for years to come, but like most big league teams, they have a lot of holes. A small market team investing that money in 4-5 players is asking for trouble long term, and their best bet would be to spread that money around. They have big holes at SS and 3B as well as the bullpen. Also, in the next 2 years, they'll need to rebuild their rotation. I think Wolf is gone after this year and Marcum and/or Greinke after next. There's also the fact that a young star like Fielder, especially represented by Scott Boraa may simply prefer to move on to a bigger market. Just because Ryan Braun gave them a very team friendly deal doesn't mean that everyone will, especially Boras clients.
  7. I'm actually very curious to see what becomes of the Brewers in the next few years. When they lose Fielder after this year, that will be a huge hit. They no longer have the farm system they used to, or anywhere close. Between Greinke and Marcum, I think they'll be able to re-sign one of them. Corey Hart is also a free agent in the next few years, and he could be very expensive. Could they be in for an Astros like downturn in the next 3 years or so? I think that their best bet is that they try to trade Hart and one of Marcum or Greinke either mid next year, depending on where they are in the standings or the following offseason and re stock that farm system.
  8. The Hawks quick and fightless 2 gamer more represents what this organization is all about.
  9. The thing is, of the bunch, there are several guys who could be decent middle relievers in the next few years, but you can't protect them all. Beliveau seems to have by far the highest ceiling of the lot, but after him, there are a bunch of guys who could go either way.
  10. Are the Astros and Rangers really any kind of rivalry? I know they're in the same state, but there's like 300 miles between Houston and Arlington. It's not like Cubs/Sox or Yanks/Mets where fans can just hop on a train to get to each others park.
  11. Smokes hang on to win 9-6, although Dolis got himself into a Marmol-esque jam in the process.
  12. Come on, it's Pujols though. Love him or hate him, the guys the best player of our generation by far, and who the [expletive] is a little piece of [expletive] like Nyjer Morgan, who was railroaded off the [expletive] Nationals to talk [expletive] about him. Tony Plush, or whatever his name is better believe, that next time they meet the Cards, they'll have a little something something for him. Of course, hopefully, Pujols is a Cubs by then and won't have to be involved in such an ugly mess.
  13. Always best to talk [expletive] about a team when you don't have to face them again.
  14. Didnt Pena say something when he was first signed along the lines of seeing himself as the Cubs 1B beyond this year, and he was pretty much lauged off back when we were pretty much sure that Fielder or Pujols were in the cards? Then again, Carlos Silva was pretty much sure that the 4th spot in the rotation was his and Wells and Cashner were battling it out for the 5th. I can't stress this enough. I like Pena. He's an all around good baseball player. However, If the Cubs were to re sign Pena, by the time the team is able to compete again, his contract will have been at least 2 years expired. If we couldn't get Fielder or Pujols my plan C would be Dunn, although the infield defense of Ramirez, Castro, and Dunn would be more than enough to put fans and pitchers alike into fits. May as well just put Soriano at 2nd at that point. The only way I could see us having a competive team with Carlos Pena back at 1st is if we were to sign CJ Wilson and pull off some kind of miracle trade with the Dodgers for Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, and maybe Chad Billingsly.
  15. If the game plan is a long term build, and to sit out the Fielder/Pujols sweepstakes, I'd just as soon give LaHair a year over someone like Pena or Loney. of course this scenario probably leads to a very long and painful 3-5 years. Even if we do go for Pujols or Fielder, LaHair could provide a solid lefty off the bench, especially if he can play OF as well as 1B.
  16. Maybe he really did get called up but Dorn was [expletive] with him and told him he didn't so he'd storm into Quades office and give him a piece of his mind.
  17. I remember catching that on MLBTR about him resigning, and wondering if their was a connection, especially considering that their wouldn't be any hints out there for who was being considered until someone is actually hired.
  18. When you just want the game to end, he's your guy. Isn't he the 7.5 million dollar man? Whatever he is, teams have paid better players more money to go away.
  19. When you just want the game to end, he's your guy.
  20. 136 in '08 huh? Makes sense,as back then we were better at getting guys on base to begin with. Lee probably had about 90 of those.
  21. Cubs sure are good at hitting into double plays,
  22. If the Cubs walked any less, they'd have to change their name to the Chicago Stephen Hawkings.
