  1. Again, they're completely baseless so I wouldn't worry too much. He even says that The Mariners and Cubs are the best matches to him. He also has Kerry Wood coming back to the Cubs with the reason that there's no reason not to. Seriously, we have a lot of young bullpen candidates. Woody is basically a solid middle reliever at this point, and we have plenty of guys that can step in to that role, especially if the front office don't see this as a year that we'll contend. If they want to bring him back as an ambassador of some kind, that's fine but it's time to move on. They need to stop treating him like he's some kind of Cubs legend. He had some good years, but injury kept him from what he could of been.
  2. I tried my hand. Problem is, after the top 25 or so, there are so many guys I could care less about and could go anywhere. I guess that's the point though. I'm definitely a bit surprised that Kosuke didn't even make the top 50.
  3. We also get Joel Pinearo. I guess Dierkes forget that we have a smart front office now. Lucky for us, while Dierkes has great intel when it comes to rumors, when it comes to baseless predictions he's no better than the next guy.
  4. Definitely interested at the right price.
  5. Wood is 26 now, 27 to start the 2012 season, and considering the hype and ceiling he had not too long ago, it's hard not to at least take a flier out him. We have a supposed hitting guru on our hands to help him out and a vacant 3B job. This could be one of those low risk asset building moves that Theo talked about.
  6. I'd probably do Bumgarner, too. Maybe Upton. If Kemp even comes close to replicating his 2011 next year I'd consider him, too (if there wasn't such a good a chance he'd be a FA). If he does come close, he'll be looking at Yankee money.
  7. Any chance Pena is offered arbitration? It would be nice to land another pick, assuming they don't think he'd accept another 1 year.
  8. No, someone would surely pick him up. Nobody would risk 3 mil on him, but if his price were to dip below 2 mil, there would be definite interest.
  9. Since today was Seligs imposed deadline before he steps in, should we be hearing a resolution in the next few days?
  10. That's because he's not a free agent util 2013 and this list is only 2012 FAs. However, Elias has the rankings of every player in baseball and what their rank would be, and that's the one which lists Keppinger and Polanco as Type A's.
  11. For that price I'd have taken him for a year. Probably gives us an idea of what the Cubs would need to eat to trade some of their contracts. Z is definitely younger and better than Lowe and this point though.

  13. Not earth shattering, but it's a pretty big move for this early in the offseason.
  14. It is a tough one, but could it be worth the gamble that Junior Lake could take his place in the next year or 2 and maybe use Barney or Marwin Gonzalez as placeholders with Baez, Marco Hernandez and Amaya as backup plans for 3-4 years down the road?
  15. You couldn't do Baez yet. Well, you could do Jeffery Baez, but I doubt that would get you much. Havn't their been cases when a team thought they were getting one guy but got another with a similar name? Theo can make it happen.
  16. He was too beautiful for this world. Let him ride off into the horizon full of glory. By horizon I mean freight train. by glory I mean bourbon.
  17. Probably Alfonso Soriano+prospects should do it. The prospects: Trey McNutt, Matt Szczur, Josh Vitters, Junior Lake, and Javier Baez.
  18. bearclaw could have learned much from the Dog.
  19. He really should. His wife is very sick. and his daughter is very hot.
  20. Yup. After several cups of coffee, Oakland finally gave him his big break when he was 27-28. He had 4 good years before falling off. If you're a team who wants to gamble on getting 2-4 good years on a league min AAAAer, LaHair would be a decent bet. Surely someone will translate this as me saying Brian LaHair >>>>>Albert Pujols, but that's not at all what I'm saying.
  21. http://twitter.com/#!/cst_cubs/status/13085130176765132 Wouldn't they still have to offer arbitration to get the compensation? Merely exercising the option isn't enough. Yeah, but it's pretty obvioud that they'll offer arb, and he'll turn it down. As I said before, Aramis projects to be a type B but Placido Polanco and Jeff Keppinger Typa A's, so I don't get how that works.
  22. Since we know that money's coming off the books next year either way, why is it better to wait and commit money next year instead of the same money this year? The Demp, Z, Pena, etc., money comes off the books at the same time, in the same way next year whether we sign Wilson to a 5/90 deal this offseason or Greinke to a 5/90 deal next offseason. I like Greinke a lot more, though. Of course, I also expect him to get a bigger deal than Wilson with fiercer competition. I don't think it's wise to spend money just because you have it. I like Wilson, but don't see him being worth what he'll end up with due to the market. As for Greinke, I don't know how he'll do in a big market setting, and the money he'll command is too much to risk if he can't take it.
  23. This is all true. But teams have dealt with this kind of situation before and had it work out. Personally, I'm much more concerned about his declining performance than the tirades & such. But what it comes down to is that his trade value can't get any lower, but f we waited until mid season, it could get higher.
  24. I'd be all about Maholm, but he'd be more expensive than one of the reclamation guys. Also, I'd try Jackson and even Samardzjia before Rusin.
  25. If the Cubs did let him go, and he didn't want to go to Japan would he be able to get a big league deal at league min from someone else? If Jack Cust hung on as long as he did, it's possible.
