  1. Especially after Ricketts said we have the money. Yeah, we're one of th biggest market teams there are and have recently freed up a ton of money between Ramirez, Fukudome, Bradley/Silva, Pena and Grabow. The only big contracts we still have are Soriano and Zambrano, who will be bought out after this season. There's really no excuse not to be able to spend.
  2. Castillo seems like he could be worth a look but Alvarez seems about as useless as [expletive] on a bull http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=alvare003ric
  3. It was only a matter of time. I can't check youtube at work but please tell me it's the return of Creepy Cardinals Fan.
  4. The Angels signings of Pujols and Wilson makes me wonder A. So how much are these guys paying Pujols, Wilson, and Wells? B. does this pressure the Rangers into the Fielder race C. Could this pressure the Rangers to overpay Garza? Last I checked they were discussing a deal but the asking price was too steep. D. Kendry Morales and/or Ervin Santana?
  5. I'll get a laugh if they end up getting Ian Stewart for him.
  6. I fully expect him to be compensation to Boston. Also, with Lawrie, Aviles, and Scotoru, unless one of them are traded the Red Sox have a full middle infield and I don't see Gonzalez taking one of their jobs but my bet is that we'll let them keep him anyway as part of the compensation.
  7. I think that the part of me that wants Pujols far, far away from the NL Central unless of course the Cubs well outweighs the part of me that wanted the Cards to overpay for him.
  8. Flaherty, Rhee, and Searle(yes TT, Searle  ) on the list but not Jackson.
  9. The 3rd team has been confirmed not to be the Yankees. Could be the Blue Jays who have Adam Lind. There's the Mariners if they consider Smoak to be an established 1st baseman.
  10. Interesting option. The overall numbers are pretty nice, but a poor BB% that has declined sharply in each of his 3 major league seasons and a steadily declining IsoD each year is very concerning. His BB% was 5.7% last year and his IsoD was .042. Mix that with some really high BABIPs (.382 and .345 in two of his three ML years) and I kinda wonder if he's a guy who's going to get better or worse going forward. Unless they have a prospect I don't know about, they'll probably want to keep him around as long as they feel they have a chance to move Wright.
  11. Sounds bad for everyone involved. For Melvin, he now looks bad for taking the chance of offering arb to begin with and it probably puts the nail in the coffin of their chances at resigning Fielder, and maybe even Ramirez. For K Rod, while it's a higher dollar amount than he would have gotten from a multiyear, he's going to be a set up man unless Axford turns into Dan Kolb or Derrick Turnbow and that could lower his value when he hits the market next year.
  12. Considering the slim pickings, he's definitely my top choice. Theres also an 3B prospect named Kevin Ahrens in the Blue Jays system. Considering that we have the smallest 40 man, makes me wonder why we didn't protect a few more guys like Jackson, Flaherty, and Rhee, unless they'd planned on a few more signings by now. Also, I don't know if anyone else caught this but Marwin Gonzalez isn't listed in the Cubs guys. Oversite by them or could he not be eligible? Another thing, Esmailen Caridiad is listed as eligible, but he spent parts of 2 seasons on a big league roster.
  13. Even Heyman thinks we have a shot. Personally, my gut is that if The Cubs and Brewers are working with 5-6 year deals, someone is bound to swoop in with a 7 year offer.
  14. Agreed, I also think twice if we had to give up three of those four to get Stewart. I'd give up Colvin, DeWitt, and Maine for him if they'd kick in a prospect or something. LeMahieu I'd give up in a deal for Headley but I don't know if I'd even swap him straight up for Stewart.
  15. I know the Rockies want Pedro Alverez. Trading Tyler Colvin for Ian Stewart=good move. Trading Pedro Alverez for Ian Stewart=bad move.
  16. Meh, it seems that everyone on the Score thinks that Ricketts is flat broke and the Cubs should end up with a 90 mil payroll.
  17. I wouldn't be surprised if the team execs do some of it just to [expletive] with these guys. It's probably hectic enough trying to hammer out these deals and jocky for position and then you have these media pudwacks marching around bugging them every 5 minutes.
  18. And he evidently thinks Go Cubs Go is a snazzy, little ditty. Must we go here again?
  19. May just be parroting Rosenthal(or quoting the same source), but it's worth noting. Even Muskat mentioned those two(Colvin and Stewart) earlier. If it was just Colvin for Stewart I cant imagine it not being done by now. Maybe a question of who pays Stewarts salary(i think someone said it was 2.5 mil.Could it be pending the Rule 5? Maybe they want someone like Flaherty or Gonzalez and waiting to see if they make it through. Similarly with the Padres and Headley maybe they're waiting for the Rule 5 so they can knock out the Headley deal and their compensation for Hoyer on one transaction.
  20. Not really. Make it work. Move Castro to 2B. Can the Cubs afford Headley AND Hanley talent wise? I dont think we can afford Hanley talent wise. I don't think that if Headley is going to cost as much as some thing but Hanley will cost a ton and a lot of teams will be offering packages of top prospects if he's available. However, if we had a chance to trade for Hanley and Headley was going to be a roadblock I'd happily move on from Headley and send the Rockies Tyler Colvin and John Maine for Stewart and let him have 3rd.
  21. Apparently nobody is interested in Fielder and he'll likely sign a 1/1.5 deal with the A's, Fielder shockingly settles for 6/$120 from the Brewers. Pujols takes 10/$225 from the Cardinals. The Cubs get a rock. Probably right on the Cards and Pujols but if the Brewers don't up Fielders offer, the Jays, Mariners, Orioles or even Cubs will jump in with something like 7/150.
  22. Regarding all of the overblown rumors of teams being interested in players I think that the agents exaggerate the teams interest and GMs and other team execs try to downplay the rumors and in the end what you get is teams that are somewhat interested in the players.
  23. He changed it because he didn't want people to think he's lazy.
  24. Apparently nobody is interested in Fielder and he'll likely sign a 1/1.5 deal with the A's,
