  1. That pretty much sums it up. All we need is pitchers and position players, but other than that were good. We certainly don't need a DH! WHAT ABOUT INTERLEAGUE PLAY?! We already have a DH. We owe him 52 mil over the next 3 years.
  2. Molina has some decent numbers from AA last season... Seriously, not a bad deal for the White Sox, and I'd be pretty happy if the Cubs land a similar return for Marmol. Pretty good deal. Could be a sell high for the Sox, then again, the Jays could be getting an excellent deal on a closer. 2012 1 mil 2013 2.75 mil 2014 3.75 mil 2015 6 mil team option 750K buyout 2016 8 mil team option 750K buyout 2017 8.75 mil team option 750K buyout
  3. Wow. My guess is that it's going to be more of the agent approaching the Cardinals to counter and when they wisely pass, he'll be a Marlin by the weekend.
  4. The sad thing is that I wouldn't be surprised if that's where the Marlins tried to start the talks.
  5. No thank you.I don't know how much of an upgrade Sanchez would be over James Loney, and while I'm all for taking risks, knowing the Marlins and the fact that Sanchez is a productive player, he will be by no means cheap. They'll probably want to start at Szczur and McNutt.
  6. Hmm...any chance we could get Brignac and 1 or those pitchers for Soto and 1 more piece? Maybe even Byrd? Perhaps see what else we could get if we expended the deal to include Marmol? I know Brignac hasn't had a ton of big league success, but much like Stewart, I'd love to give him a shot especially at 2nd.
  7. Agreed, but next year if Hamels, Lincecum and Cain are avaialable I'll change my tune.
  8. That and the reported shrinking market for Fielder give me great hope. Last I checked, the Brewers and Nats were out. The Blue Jays and Mariners were interested. If the Cubs, Mariners, and Jays all made similar offers, I wonder if the fact that the move wouldn't be that far and he'd be playing mostly in parks and against pitchers he's familiar with would give us an edge. One would hope Chicago could edge out a place where it rains all the time and *shudder*... Canada. Yeah, I can imagine somewhere like LA or New York making it a tough choice, but theres nothing sexy about Seattle unless you're a hipster or white or Canada unless you're a hockey player.
  10. If we could get them both for reasonable prices, why not? Neither is a sure thing but they're gambles worth taking if we don't have to give up too much. Headley would be the starting 3B and Stewart could be the starting 2B or take DeWitts role. So far, everything the Rockies rumors have satted have been reasonable, even LeMahieu although I'd like something else in return as well if we gave them him and Maine.
  11. But has Ramirez gotten any interest from anyone else? It seemed like Aramis to the Angels was a foregone conclusion Stewart could also be a a utility guy with some pop off the bench or even start at 2nd.
  12. Not this morning! we like guys who say things we like.
  13. Long as we never run into them in the playoffs again. Depedning on how their young guys turn out Pujols, Hanley, Reyes, Stanton, LoMo, and Dominguez would be downright scary. With JJ, Buehrle/Wilson/front end starter, Nolasco, and Sanchez, the rotation wouldn't be anything special but good enough for that kind of lineup.
  14. Everyone knows Theo's top priority this offseason is to find Zambrano his elusive Black Guy. All the racists in Wrigley and the media have scared them all off by calling them lazy. And Jim Hendrys fat.
  15. Alternately, in honor of B2B, what if: Cubs get Headley Stewart Padres get Russell Seth Smith(they're reportedly shopping him) 1 good Cubs prospect, not Szczur, Jackson, or McNutt and ideally not Vitters. Rockies get Colvin or DeWitt LeMahieu (I'd prefer keep him and send them Colvin and DeWitt but if they're giving up Stewart and Smith in the deal I doubt they'd bite) Maine Hudson We'd be giving up 1 solid-good LH reliever or spot starter if your manager is an idiot, 1 potentially decent LH reliever, 1 good prospect, 1 guy who could be non tendered, and a young guy with a decent ceiling who would be made up for by the guys we're getting. Maybe we could even get a Padres prospect or Kyle Blanks out of the deal since the Padres seem to actually be getting the best take out of the deal.
  16. I want both. If the plan is to not go after any big money guys than I'd prefer to go for a handful of guys like this. Also, I really havn't heard much concrete evidence that the Pads are asking to much for Headley, just speculation. Now if the Padres asked for Sean Marshall straight up for Healdey what would people think about it? I'd go for it. we still have Marmol, Wood(probably), Russell, Dolis, Samardzjia(or Cashner, 1 will be in the pen), Carpenter, Beliveau, Gaub, and Whereabouts Unknown Guzman to put together a solid pen. I'd also like to take that ambidexterious fellow in the Rule 5 if he's there by the time our pick comes around. Even if Marmols traded it's decent if Cashners ready to take the closers role. Marhalls great, but he's a free agent after this year and we've all seen how highly back end bullpen guys are, especially lefities. If anyone views him as a possible closer, that makes himeven more expensive. If we could do Marshall for Headley and LeMahieu(although I'd first prefer see if they'd take Colvin or DeWitt in his place) and Maine for Stewart, I really can't see any reason not to be happy about it.
  17. That pretty much sums it up. All we need is pitchers and position players, but other than that were good.
  18. We already have a perfectly good guy for that job. Now if only we could give it to him and find a starting 2nd baseman.
  19. Russell as the centerpiece for a Headley deal would be a big fat yes. However, what are the other necessary pieces? Could we get away with something like Russell, Colvin/DeWitt and Castillo? I'm not nearly as high on Headley as a lot of people here but if we could get him without giving up Szczur, McNutt, or even Vitters I'd be pretty happy with it. DJ and Maine for Stewart? Hmm, that's a tough one. Could care less about Maine. Even if we moved both him and Russell we'd still have Beliveau and Gaub as lefties for the pen in addition to Marshall. DJ is only 23, but if the power never comes what do we have in him? I'd be very happy with landing both Stewart and Headley if the best guy we end up trading between the 2 is LeMahieu. Also I'm having trouble figuring out why the hell the Rockies seem to be so interested in Colvin. They have Car Go, Fowler, and Seth Smith, who they've been discussing trading for Prado, another outfielder. I can't see Colvin usurping any of their spots.
  20. People are looking too much into that LaHair quote. All he said is that he's being given an opportunity. When you're a 29 year old career minor leaguer, a spot on a big league bench is a hell of an opportunity. I have no problem with LaHair on the bench. He has more power than Colvin and can play outfield and 1st. Besides, even if Fielder and Pujols were out of the question, this early on I highly doubt that they would have approached LaHair at the GM meeting and said congrats, you're our starting 1st baseman. While he'd by my plan C rather than someone like Pena, Kotchman, or Loney I like to think that our dream team would have other options up their sleeves before saying to hell with it, let's just go with LaHair. Does anyone really think that Hoyer and Theo are walking around with a cocktail napkin reading something like 1.Albert Pujols 2.Prince Fielder 3. Bryan LaHair
  21. Hopefully it was a very short conversation ending in well, nice talking to you.
  22. It really wouldn't be wise to do so. Unless they want to go back to the days of having Molitor and Yount surrounded by a bunch of garbage as early as 2013 that really isn't the wise move for them. I think that Toronto would be his best bet at this point. he could really put them in position to finally compete with the Yankees and Red Sox. Perhaps they'd like to add a front end starter for a package built around Rasmus and Drabek 8-)
  23. I don't know, I don't think he'd flat out put it that way if he planned on building for 2012-2013. That definitely knocked my Pujols/Fielder hopes down several notches. If nothing else, I hope that they can move some guys like Soriano, Byrd, Marmol and perhaps Soto for quality prospects and young players. To be honest, if this really is the case, put me in the trade Garza for a top prospect package camp. I can't remember the last time we traded anything for a top prospect package.
  24. Sounds more and more like Flahertys a sitting duck, not that it wasn't already assumed. If Theo and Hoyer knew how in demand guys like Barmes, Carroll, and Kennedy would be I wonder of they would have rostered him or at least tried to trade him before the roster deadline.
  25. Well yeah, but that doesn't mean we need to add more. I'd be OK with paying him 5.5 mil in 2012 if the Pads would pick up half of the 2 mil 2013 buyout.
