  1. It usually doesn't happen. But if it's something that is big enough to be national news and everyone's waiting on, like Darvish, it gets ridiculous. The night before it was announced I was following and just hit yu darvish in the search. Every few minutes, some other team supposedly officially won the bid.
  2. There's Marmol, but I can't think of anyone else.
  3. Definitely Starlin Castro. Too soon?
  4. The problem is that even if someone does have breaking news, there are usually 36 others with conflicting reports.
  5. Didn't the O's take Flaherty in the Rule 5 draft? Now that they have Betemit they may return Flaherty. He could also be a utility man/super sub. They already have Robert Andino, but he can't hit his way out of a paper bag.
  6. The Cajun Connection shall ride again.
  7. 2 gritty white guys whos teams fans have an irrational love for? Without BBRing, I'll guess Darwin Barney and Ryan Theriot. The difference is that Barney is a very good defensive player and Theriot is not.
  8. Confucius say one must first learn how to pronounce name before negotiating contract lol Put me down for ee-ohn-ees ses-pee-dees
  9. Please don't. I don't find this half as annoying as pages of discussion on how to say his name. Maybe that's just me being bitter after seeing new posts and mistakingly thinking it is new information. New information you say? Kevin Goldstein thinks the Cubs will get Cespedes. Link to Baseball Prospectus Podcast If there's one thing I've learned it's to take these types of things with a grain of salt. By lunch time the Marlins will be favored and before I go to bed it will be the White Sox. By the time I wake tomorow morning, a mystery team will have swooped in and a deal will be imminent.
  10. I havn't seen this posted yet, but according to MLB.coms prospect rankings, we have Brett Jackson(33), Anthony Rizzo(37), and Javier Baez(62). Not too shabby. It's been a while since we had 3 in the top 100, 2 in the top 50.
  11. I'm surprised as how middle of the pack we are, but looking at the 11 teams below us, there are some truely bad teams this year. Of those below us, I think that the Royals, Indians, and White Sox are better than we are, but depending on when these were released, they could have taken into consideration the Tigers aquisiion of Fielder putting them well above the rest of their sickly division and the fact that none of them are likely to beat out the AL East usuals for the Wild Card.
  12. I guess the question is, what is a substantial offer for a guy like Cespedes? If its something insane like 8/100, then let them have him. Then again, they could be peacocking in hopes of scaring off other teams and end up offering him a more realistic offer. We should offer something. We should still offer something like 6-7 years at 7-8 mil/ year, which is somewhat risky when we're essentially giving a prospect a big league deal, but not enough so that it would be a major blow if he's a bust.
  13. Yes! I haven't seen many address this on twitter and on sites I that I read. They lost a DH, so just let Fielder and Cabrera rotate between DH and 1B for 2012. They can worry about 2013 when it gets here, and when Martinez is going to be 30-something years old and coming off ACL surgery. I mean, that guy is not gonna be a lock to be a great performer by that point, I wouldn't think. I actually saw a projected lineup that had Ryan Rayburn at DH and Miggy at 3B. If he's in the lineup, why in the world wouldn't they just put Rayburn at 3B? A lot of players don't wan't to DH and prefer playing the field as well. We've only known for a week or so that V Mart would be out for the season, but the Tigers must have had a pretty good idea for a while that it could happen. Therefore, I'm betting that they'd been negotiating with him for a while, probably with similar 5-6 deals as the Nats and Rangers, but once they learned for fact that V Mart would be out, it accelerated the process, and they offered the contract that they did to get him to agree to at least a part time DH role. I know that would give them 2 1st basemen and 2 catchers with only 1 DH spot in 2013, but if Avila has another season like he did last year, they should have no problem trading him.
  14. With the amount of posting you do here, you aren't aware if Soler is a FA yet? with the amount of things he isn't aware of, you're going to harp on that? Or you could, you know, just answer the question or not bother responding. Then again, being civil toward posters you dont particularly care for isn't your thing and who am I to try and change you.
  15. No, because there's no Cuban baseball player whose last name is Solar, doofus. I used to call him Soler... then enough people were using Solar that I found myself doing so. Now, every time I want to type his name I have to stop and consciously think about which one it is, which annoys me to no end. I also originally thought Soler because it made more sense and then changed to Solar. It will all be moot in about 4 years when we learn that it's something else all together and he's in his early 30's.
  16. Is Solar officially a FA yet? If so, I'm betting that between the Cubs and the Marlins, they'll each end up with 1 of the 2. I'd still love both though.
  17. They really should. Their lineup starts off with Jackson(CF), Peralta(SS), Fielder(1b/DH), Cabrera(1B/DH), Avila©, Boesch(RF), and Young(LF) and the rotation Verlander, Fister, and Scherzer. another front end starter would make them AL favs easily. Verlander and Cabrera are signed through 2014 and 2015 respectively, so the next 3-4 years should be all about going for it.
  18. Does Cabrera have any chance of going back to 3rd or will he and Prince split 1st and DH?
  19. And the bonus is that it sucks for the White Sox, not that they had much of a chance this year anyway.
  20. Well, [expletive], that was unexpected. I don't know who Detroit thought they were trying to outbid, but they sure seem to have blown them out of the water. In related news, I think we can forget about any ghost of a chance of them having any interest in Soriano.
  21. Confused him with Matt Joyce for some reason. Not nearly as good, but had a good season last year. I wouldn't expect it to be junk. Soto, Marmol(part of his contract), and a few decent prospects. No quite sure what caliber of prospects it would take.
  22. Tampa Bay is still looking for a starting catcher. In addition to Davis and Niemann, both somewhat intriguing they also have several outfield options, and now that they have Pena, they don't need to use Morse or Zobrist at 1st. They have Morse, Jennings, Upton, Zobrist, Scott, and then Fuld and Guyer behind them. I doubt that they'd trade Jennings or Morse, and they just signed Scott, but would Zobrist or Upton be attainable targets in a deal for Soto? Would we be able to swing a deal for one of them and Davis or Niemann? Obviously, Soto would be just 1 piece of a far bigger package, but what would it cost and would it be worth it? Maybe work in Marmol?
  23. I find this more interesting than the Marlins commitmant to overpay for him.
  24. A couple of minor deals that don't effect us in any way:
