  1. Makes me feel old. When I was a kid, I only knew who the best hitter's in video games were because he was the one who'd rush the mound and beat up the pticher when he got beaned in the 8th inning.
  2. Makes you wonder how many IPs this guy has.
  3. What's even more impressive is the number of people that are normally at odds with each other making legitimate (re. sane) arguments that Neely is completely ignoring/not buying. When Mojo and Kyle are on the same side of the argument, there is something seriously amiss in the Force. Could it be the Neely is simply a ghost accound created by Tim to concentrate everyone's agression and create peace among the posters of NSBB? Next thing you know Nuts&Gum and davearm2 will be singing Kumbaya.
  4. Berkman, Schmerkman. The Cards just signed a former first round pick and top prospect who will surely reach his ceiling with them.
  5. So who's going down when Wood comes up? Lalli or Hill would be the obvious choice, assuming that they could survive with 1 catcher until Castillo or Clevenger are ready to play again. They could DL Castillo, but if he only needs a few more games off it would be foolish. Too bad we don't have a 7 day DL. My guess is Cardenas, but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised and it will be Johnson or Baker.
  6. I think I'm not so much baffled by Neely spouting off a marathon of insanity as the fact that a who's who of NSBB's smartest posters are lining up to reason with him in their own respective ways.
  7. He shouldn't be. With utility middle infield types, as long as they're cheap and not completely hapless with the bat there's no harm in keeping them around. Also, in Barney's case as long as he's hitting well for now may as well let him play out the hot streak. I understand the comparisons as far as offense goes, but the obvious difference is the fact that Barney is a great defensive player, despite the fact that he makes some mistakes and Theriot was a bad defensive player. Not as much comparisons of their numbers as how they will be hailed by some in similar ways. Agreed. It's too bad, because it's really not the player's fault so much as a lot of media and fans over valuing them for "playing the game the right way". Time will tell if Sveum and the FO see Barney as the answer at 2nd long term or simply a good utilityplayer.

  9. As awful as Betances has been this year, they'd have to be very desperate for pitching to trade him for a rental, but if they did I'd take it and run. I actually don't think the Yankees feel too attached to him. Well, OK thats a excessive but i just don't think they view him as a long term starter with them without more work than the Yankees might feel they should put in. They also have consistently shown they pay well in prospects to get what they need. I'm bored. I should just call it a night. But how often is anyone going to give up one of their top 5 prospects for a 3-4 month rental unless we're talking a true superstar? As hot as Dempster's start to the season was, even then he wasn't fooling anyone into thinking he was more than a middle of the rotation guy, which is still valuable. I think that we could land a guy from the back of someone's top 10 and 1-2 additional low level guys. Maybe boost the return a touch by throwing in another piece like Baker, Johnson, or Camp who wouldn't bring anything back on their own but could be a decent throw in for a contender.
  10. Much of it still confuses the [expletive] out of me, but I probably have to thank NSBB for what enlightenment I do have on the subject. I'd been realising that BA and ERA were somewhat over rated but not exactly how much less important they were than OPS, SLG, OBP, WHIP, and BB/K ratios. W/L too. I always saw it as a worthless stat for relievers, but I used to put a lot more stock in it for starting pitchers than I do these days. I still couldn't tell you how to calculate WAR if you paid me.
  11. I'm starting to think high school sociology project. Find a message board and see how many people you can goad into continuing to argue no matter how out there you get. The Criteriaseen some wild posters, but none that have been this out there for so long. -how many responses to you get trying to rationalize with you -how many posters take you seriously -how many simply flame you -how long before the powers that be ban you from the board. -will it start a Free Neely campaign? Or maybe the screen name was started by a composite of 10-12 year old Cardinals or White Sox fans just to [expletive] with us.
  12. Everyone trying to argue with Neely is going to feel stupid upon coming to the realization that his post are not stupid arguements but rather brilliant beat poetry.
  13. R.I.P. any hint of Jay Jackson being remotely considered a "prospect".
  14. As awful as Betances has been this year, they'd have to be very desperate for pitching to trade him for a rental, but if they did I'd take it and run.
  15. Has Nate Samson been here all along? I feel he was gone for like 3 years.
  16. Never let this thread die. Nothing quite like watching NSBB's best and brightest try to rationalize with the equivalent of a toddler that just got ahold of a gallon of Fun Dip.
  17. Looks like that time of the game when our opponent has a comfortable enough lead to bring in one of the dregs of their bullpen to let us think the Cubs have a chance until they replace him with someone better who slams the door in our face. Yay.
  18. I didn't say that. But they need to spend on impact players and sprinkle in some low risk high reward guys to supplement it not try to nickel and dime the team back to relevance. Soooooo trade Garza???? If they're going to spend, then extend Garza. If they plan to do a rebuild from the primarily from the farm, picking up Ian Stewarts and Chris Volstads along the way then you trade Garza for the right price. We could probably get 3 very good prospects. He's really all we have as far as valuable trade chips. Dempster will bring back something, but as a rent a player nothing close to what Garza would. Sooooooo 60 million dollar payroll Let's see. Soriano is due 18 mil. Marmol 9.5. DeJesus is I believe 7. Castro and Shark will both be due hefty raises. Other than that, there's not much money in this team. If they don't go for a big name free agent like Hamilton, Hamels, or at least Upton or Ethier, the payroll could conceiveably be around 75. Then again, it could also give us the freedom to re-up Garza, sign Hamels as well as Hamilton, Ethier, or Upton and still have someoney left over for a reliever or 2 and some low risk guys.
  19. I'm by no means giving up on Brett Jackson, but at this rate I really can't imagine him being a key contributer to next years big league team.
  20. More'n I can say for the CUBS tonight, eh? I don't know, it's hard to make the Houston Astros look this good without trying.
  21. Say what you will about the posters of Northsidebaseball.com, but we never allow our trolls to go hungry.
  22. The new market efficiency for Cubs minor league relievers is guys in their mid-late 30's who had a decent season 3-5 years ago.

  25. Not sure if your talking to me, but one thing I've never been called fat. However, rather than one of your signature flame jobs, please enlighten this meatball on how this team will contend in the next year or 2 without either spending money or trading away our better players, not including Castro.
