  1. I'd have to think that if that were so, he wouldn't have been protected from the Rule 5. Remember, Ryan Flaherty, was looking a lot better than Vitters ever did last year, and they let him go.
  2. That can't be right. Are you sure you don't mean 27th youngest?
  3. contract. With us eating 90% of his contract, the contract shouldn't be a problem. It's the years, not the dollars. If we end up picking up 95-97% of the contract, who I think is more likely than 90%, the years should be virtually irrelevant if they're only picking up 3-5% of the tab.
  4. So he still believes he'll be pitching in games soon. Hopefully he's right. Sweet. Can't wait to have a starting pitching prospect who's ceiling isn't Casey Coleman.
  5. Time to move on. If they were willing to give up a top prospect for a washed up 35 year old, imagine what we can get for an All Star.
  6. Extra year of team control or not, any team considering offering an insane prospect package for Garza just turned their heads. Chances are, we'll have to wait until he's moved before moving Dempster or Garza if we want top value.
  7. Despite the fact that he's been in free fall for over a month, interesting that the players voted him in. They're smarter than just blindly looking at a stat line. Is it just a testament to how weak the crop is beyond Votto? There has to be some NL 1st baseman besides Votto who hasn't been God awful for the past month. And then theres this from yesterday @Rotoworld_BB: Votto leaves game with undisclosed injury http://t.co/hciIUnOC any chance of him hitting the DL? Just sayin.
  8. Per Sullivan and Bruce Miles . Any chance it suckers teams into interest in LaHair?
  9. My intrigue continues to build toward Michael Burgess. While not as young as Vitters, he still has that same situation in which it seems like he's been around for ages, though he's still only 23. And wasnt Dustin Geiger a fairly touted bonus baby when he was drafted in 2010? He seems to be putting together a good season.
  10. The Dodgers are a huge market team with a rabid fan base who had really been losing patience, especially with the McCourt BS. They weren't expecting to be as good as they were early on, and when they were all of the sudden the fans stopped grumbling. Once they lost Kemp, things went down hill in a hurry, and they were probably thinking we better get the smokescreen back up and do whatever we can to keep in the race. Remember, when it comes to the more casual fans, which make up a pretty big percentage of every fan base, unless we're talking about a phenom they don't know who the hell most of their prospects are, but a big name like Carlos Lee gives off the impression that they're trying to win. Should a big league GM and front office think this way? Absolutely not, but judging by some of the desperation trades you see in the summer by fringe contenders, clearly some do.
  11. Before going 0-4 today, Szczur's OPS was at .809, which is very impressive considering his start to the season.
  12. True. That being the case, if this did fall through I could see them checking in on LaHair, but certainly not for a top 10 guy. Unless the Twins decide to move Morneau or Willingham, there really arent many non contenders with offense to spare. Milwaukee could shop Hart but that's really it.
  13. 1. Vitters' development 2. Rizzo still looks really good 3. Soler signing 4. Castro not going to jail 5. Nobody killed by crumbling Wrigley infrastructure 0. Nobody seems to notice or care that they are a big market team that isn't even trying to win I wonder if the folks you were trying to piss off with that one take the bait.
  14. I really hope that he blocks it. A lot of contenders are looking hard for pitching, but not so much offense. This isn't to say that nobody would have interest in Soriano, but not enough so to give up a top prospect like Gould. There have been reports that we'd be willing to eat as much of Soriano's contract as needed to move him, so it's hard to tell if A. Even with virtually his entire salary covered, he has less value than Lee B. The Astros simply beat our guys to the punch, C. our guys are not willing to eat as much salary as we've heard. On the plus side, if the deal really was all that close, or if he had agreed to it, he would have been lifted from the game by now.
  15. It all depends on who's in the market for what and what they have to offer. Du to the limited amount of offensive players potentially available, Lee could fetch a premium, and hopefully Soriano can too. If Dempster were active now, we could likely get a lot more for them than we will closer to the deadline, when Greinke, Marcum, McCarthy, and maybe even Hamels could be available. Garza's the one who could bring back the most due to the extra year of team control, which none of the others have.
  16. This being said, we should be coming at them with Soriano and LaHair. Their outfielders aside from Ethier and Kemp are OPSng in the mid .600s. If you're desperate for offense, Soriano should be very attractive to you, and LaHair should be a worth taking a chance on as a throw in.
  17. Home: .274/.337/.381/.718 25 HR Away: .294/.348/.466/.814 44 HR Vs RHP: .297/.355/.466/.801 Vs LHP: .244/.306/.363/.669 While I do dig the home/road splits, the righty/lefty splits suggest that we've already got one.
  18. If Lee blocks the trade, allowing us to swoop in for a similar deal for Soriano, while most Cubs fans will have no idea why, I'll cheer him every time he comes to Wrigley.
  19. He's certainly looking like he has AAA figured out. I kinda hope they just let him stay there the whole year and not move him up again. There's sort of a catch 22 involved. While I would like to see him get at least a half season in thr big leagues, so we could get some idea whether or not he could be ready to contribute next year and how to proceed with Ian Stewart, I'd also like to give Ian Stewart the reast of the season, when he's healthy to to decide how to proceed with Ian Stewart, and obviously, we can't have both. In a perfect world, both can be full time contributers and Vitters is able to successfully convert to LF, and Stewart finally pulls it together when his wrist is fully healed.
  20. So if the Astros can get a top prospect for Lee and the Blue Jays were not only able to not only get a good player in return for Vernon Wells, but also get out of argueably the worst contract on MLB history, if our guys can't/don't move Soriano for a respectable return, it's their own damn fault.
  21. Soriano is a better player than Lee, imo. But Lee can "play" 1B and also has less $ on his contract so he probably has a little more value, but just from an offensive point, Soriano is better They're really not much different offensively, the paste few years anyway. 2009-2012 Lee: .276/.327/.446/.773 73 HR Soriano .241/.303/.423/.726 85 HR Each is dragged down by 1 awful year, Lee 2010 246/.291/.413/.703 Soriano 2009 .241/.303/.423/.726 And 2011-2012 Soriano.255/.305/.480/.785 41 HR Lee .279/.342/.436/.778 23 HR Soriano has certainly shown more power, but Lee has been much better getting on base, making their OPS virtually even. This being said, the money and the fact that he plays 1B make him that much more valuable. It's easy to say that if we're paying 95%-98% of Soriano's salary, it makes him more attractive, but aside from some rumors, we really don't know how much our side is really willing to eat.
  22. Some good hitting last night Iowa Vitters 2-4, 2B Cabrera 2 IP 2 H 0/3 BB/K Daytona Szczur 2-4 2B, BB Alcantara, who refuses to fade away 2-4 Torreyes 3-4 2B, HR BB, Last 10 games: .324/.405/.649/.1.053 3 HR Peoria Baez 2-5 3B Cervenka, who's turned out to be a nice relief prospect 2 IP 1 H 0 R 0/1 BB/K Boise Candelerio 1-3, BB The pitching was pretty rough, giving up a combined 51 runs between Tennessee, Daytona, Peoria, Boise, and the DSLs. Sadly, my guy Paulino gave up 7 R, 5 ER on 12 H in 4IP. 0/4 BB/K though.
  23. I highly doubt we could get Middlebrooks. I'd love any 2 from the Braves and Dodgers group. No thanks on the Yankees bunch, although I'd take a pair for Dempster.
  24. It's no secret that the Dodgers are desperte for offense. At this poit, Lee is the better player than Soriano. However, the Dodgers have also expressed strong interest Ryan Dempster. If we can be a one stop shop for them and package Dempster and Soriano and/or LaHair who before that gets pounced on, there were reports earlier this week that they've been scouting, we should be able to get a package built around Gould or Eovoldi. Lee is probably aiming way to high though. Unless we throw in Reed Johnson. I kid.
