    does it? It does if you want pitching. It's been underwhelming, but that seems standard for baseball drafts. Pretty much. Other than the 0-3 big time draft prospects per year, if the handful of posters who seem to really know their amateurs seem happy about it, I'm happy about it.

    Anyone mildly interested to see Bijan Rademacher promoted just to see if he's anything more than an almost 23 year old feasting off his second go at a 21-22 year old's league?

    Yesterday notwithstanding, it's getting really annoying that we keep trotting lefties that can't hit lefties out to bat against lefties in the late innings of close games. Whiteside is the only RH on the bench right now. Maybe, just maybe, we don't need 13 pitchers. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk I agree, but that's the hand that's dealt right now. It gives them plenty of leeway to not burn the bullpen out with all the young arms and be able to absorb weeks like this one where they get ~9 IP from SP in two days, but it leads to Barney being a key RH bat off the bench. If it starts becoming a larger problem, it'd be wise to take greater care to split up the back-to-back LH. Why not send Grimm to Iowa to stretch out as a starter. There's also Villanueva who hasn't been much better than Veres.

    I think it's safe to say that he's cryogenically frozen in some lab alongside Trey McNutt and Ryan McNeil.

    The fact that Kris Bryant's taking a ton of walks during his power binge speaks louder regarding his makeup than the binge itself. Unless he's just taking a ton of intentionals.

    No. This isn't a case of Steve Trout in the mid-20s becoming the best player in the draft several years later. Both of the last two Astros picks involved prospects who were better in ways that either were obvious at the time (Very few people seriously thought Correa was the best pick in that draft) or should have been seen (Kris Bryant has been mashing since he set foot in pro ball in way that says he probably should have been realized to be the No. 1 overall 11 months ago). YO IS THIS DUDE SERIOUS Must of been a real weak draft class Don't be ridiculous. There was never any draft until the early 40s. And back then, the only signing bonuses were a haircut, a rifle, and an eye exam.

    If Castro and Rizzo would start hitting again, I'd be able to upgrade my feelings toward this team from sad to indifferent.

    If that's an option, there likely isn't anything at the tail end of the package, not unless we're sweetening our end of the pot.

    So what does it take? Stanton is just what we need. Hell, he's just what everyone needs, but he's the type of cornerstone that sends the message to fans on free agents alike that we're ready to go. We have a top 5 farm last I checked, which is likely to get better by the winter following the draft and whatever we get out of any summer trades.

    Maybe not a free agent, but it could very well make a guy who's been here for parts of the past 6 seasons inclined to talk contract. I certainly don't expect any home town discount, but our money's as good as anyones, and we have to have enough to go around by now.

    I know it's being discussed in the gam thread, but I think Shark can be convinced to stay once he sees Javy and KB producing in the majors. That's one hell of a risk to take. And I don't think we're willing to pay him what he'd get on the open market which is what you'd have to do to sign him next summer or later If we were willing to give Tanaka 6/120, surely we'd give it to Shark, if he pitched like an ace all year. More importantly, every time a front end starter nears the open market, the not willing to pay argument comes up. Unless they plan to keep getting lucky with Maholm after Feldman after Hammel until they manage to home grow some more durable pitching prospects than what we have, they're going to need to be willing to pay these guys.

    Unless something ridiculous is offered, we really need to extend this guy. To those in the 'he doesn't want to resign' camp, if the money's right, and there's a sense that we're really ready to start winning in the next year or two, there's little question that he'll be more than willing to deal.
