  1. Because those dastards are always looking for fun and exciting ways to keep guys down.
  2. Because *yawn*, why not. NL East: Nats (1) NL Central Brewers (3) NL West: Dodgers (2) WC: Cardinals (4) beat Giants. AL East: Baltimore (2) AL Central: Detroit (3) KC isn't fooling anyone, including themselves or the Tigers. AL West: Oakland (1) AL WC: Mariners (4) beat Angels behind King Felix, eliciting another outcry of injustice that the 2nd best team in baseball's season is decided in a single game. NLDCS Cardinals (4) beat Nationals (1) in 4 Dodgers (2) beat Brewers (3) in 3 ALDCS Tigers (3) beat A's (1) in 5. Billy Beane pens Money Ball II: [expletive] It, Back To the Drawing Board. 3. I could be wrong, but I remember hearing once upon a time that the Orioles were somehow responsible for running one of the two incarnations of the Senators out of town.
  4. His "thanks for being a good soldier, have your cup of coffee" promotion. More like, "do good so we can include you in a trade this offseason." No better or worse than any other non-Soler option.
  5. The article essentially states that no player is untouchable for the right price. Which we already know.
  6. We have Arrieta, Wood, Wada, Hendricks, Turner, Straily, Doubront, and maybe Vizcaino, though I wouldn't bet on him as rotation options under team control. We have the resources to acquire a front end starter in the offseason, and I'm sure they'll be on the lookout for a Maholm/Feldman/Hamel type. Jackson's kind of looking like the odd man out. At $11MM per year the next two seasons, we'd be lucky to eat that entire salary and end up with a guy who might sneak into our top 15-20. As long as we'd be stuck with the contract regardless, why not see how he'd do in the pen? Now might be a good time to start the experiment.
  7. Almora and Pierce, if they insist on a SS being involved we can throw in Amaya. Too much. Underwood and Sczur. No, no, no! We demand they give is Sydergaard in exchange for taking him and his horrible can-do attitude off their hands. Cut the [expletive]. We give them Wood or Jackson, and a any pair of prospects south of the top 10. And those who think it's the worst proposal ever today praise it as genius when it happens.
  8. Sounds like a case of end of the road, but let's see if we can get anything for him before flat out dumping him. Not a sign of anything. Cooper strikes me as another Jokisch/Rusin in that he could be good to have around if we need a spare arm for a double header or a bunch of injuries.
  9. I want him to stop striking out > once per game. We both have unrealistic expectations.
  10. Colvin/Campana was one of the worst in recent memory for the Cubs (in the minors). Both were stretchered off the field and taken to the hospital. Say what you will about Colvin, but he had some of the worst luck when it came to freak injuries. He was the one who was impaled by a broken bat, right?
  11. Not only will Javy be one of the greatest hitters the game's ever seen, but he'll be the Ozzie Smith of 4th basemen.
  12. Arrieta, Turner, Hendricks, Wada, Doubront or Straily We get all hot and bothered over Lester rumors only for the Yankees to sign him, and to learn weeks later that we never really had a chance. Jackson to the pen, which makes a hell of a lot more sense then a $22MM bath. Wood traded for something of use.
  13. With Arrieta, Vizcaino, Turner, Wada, Doubront, Straily, Hendricks, and Wood, we could potentially put together an awesome rotation consisting of reclamations and trade throw-ins.
  14. So does Turner start off in the pen or do we find a way to work him into the rotation?
  15. It seems to me Vitters is the obvious for the 40 choice barring a Villanueva DFA or trade. Chris Valaika says bye.
  16. The only one I'd really have an issue with is Tseng.
  17. assuming he's talking about Kane County and not Boise, and assuming he's not talking about Underwood, Blackburn, Tseng, and Torrez. Arias and Maples? I'd prefer it not be Maples, but I'd be Ok with it.
  18. If it isn't Underwood, Torrez, or Tseng (and I'd be shocked out of my pants if it's Tseng,) color me satisfied.
  19. And all it cost was a couple of minor leaguers. And at the end of the day, aren't they all interchangeable?
  20. There's no reason they should have to give up anything decent. The Marlins have no leverage here. The Marlins have leverage in that they'd probable be better off optioning some middle reliever and stashing Turner at the pen for now and let him work things out during the OS and ST. Calling them contenders is a stretch, and they're about 3 weeks away from roster expansion. To be honest, with this type of waiver, I'm not sure if they have the ability to re-roster him if no deal happens between now and whoever the negation period expires or he goes back through waivers. If that happens, D Backs are now % points behind us can and likely would snatch him up. Good thing you said they should re-roster him then. And no, they can't as long as they add Penny to the 40 man as expected this Saturday. But they surely have somebody they can either bump from the 40 man. Looking at their roster, Kevin Gregg's on their 15 day DL with 10 IP all year.

With this mind, it's of more benefit to them to press reset and see what happens if our best offer is Wes Darvill or something. Still, I do think that they really want Turner and are going to do what it takes, within reason. IMHO, Turner, who's 23 and under 5 years control for even a pair of our top 15-30 would be a far greater value than $5-6MM for 1 year of another Maholm/Feldman/Hammel.
  22. WikiPedia has him as a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, which is as official as the last guy who updated Jacob Turner's WikiPedia page says it is.
  23. A discussion forum is no place to discuss things.
  24. Cole Hamels was reportedly sighted singing Go Cubs Go! at a Philadelphia tavern.
