  1. i am glad rocco is still playing ball...great story...but i would never want him to come to cubs...are you crazy? I don't see anything wrong with signing Baldelli to a one year deal. If he gets hurt or sucks we get rid of him, whats the worse that happens? The odds are he will never be a quality player or live up to his potential, but why not give it a shot. Who knows maybe he could turn into a good platoon player or more someday. I'd say best case scenario is Reed Johnsonish...So depending on who cost less since there both FA I wouldn't be apposed if he was relatively cheap his body is going to start declining soon...i wouldn't sign him if he was free...
  2. i wish we didn't have soriano
  3. I would love to get Hermida, and think he's going to be a star hitter one day. If Hendry doesn't have much money to spend this offseason, I just hope he takes a flyer, on a talented young hitter, who has struggled. So if we can trade for Hermida that would be great, but I'd also be willing to give Mark Teahan or Rocco Baldelli a shot as well. Maybe we can get lucky like Kenny Williams did with Carlos Quentin. Just add them to the mix with Pie, Hoffpauir and Fukudome. If they all fail, we still could use Johnson in CF against LH pitching, and DeRosa in RF and play Fontenot at 2b. i am glad rocco is still playing ball...great story...but i would never want him to come to cubs...are you crazy?
  4. maybe the brewers? marmol to the brewers? for who?
  5. I agree it's not the best idea but if you can start getting younger in the OF with a pre-arbitration guy, that'd be a great start. If you're still talking Hermida, I'd be interested in your take on his awful year in 2008. What I'm hearing is that Hendry will be looking for someone from the left side that can produce 30+ HR and 100+ RBI to put between Ramirez + Lee. I don't think the Cubs have the prospects to go after a big lefty bat in the trade market. They really can't go after Tex with Lee around. Milton Bradley doesn't seem like a good fit and I would like to avoid his injury history. I'm not sure what other lefty bats are on the market. I'd buy low with Hermida. His awful year in 2008? Get him out of Dolphin Stadium and see what he can do (.585 OPS at home, .851 OPS on the road). I think they'll make inquiries with Teix's agent about his willingness to play RF. I think they'll test the waters on Beltran. I don't see them going after Dunn as he doesn't seem to fit the mold of multi-faceted players they like. I can't think of anyone else that might be available that meets the criteria that has that veteran-y stamp of goodness on them. I was very high on Hermida coming into the season. But he clearly didn't progress as he was expected to this season. It's possible that it was a down year for one reason or another and that the big breakout expected in 2008 will come in 2009, therefore this is a chance to buy low on a superior talent. Depending on the price, I think it is a move that you or I make pretty quickly. I don't think Hendry will jump on it, though. agree...hermida will rock hard next season...and he won't be that expensive...he should be priority number 1 right now
  6. dempster will go from our "ace" to our fourth starter if we are lucky but good ole hendry will sign him up for some crap like 4/60
  7. so we are going to give up ramirez for him then SS or third baseman if that is the case, we can't do it i want hermida!!!
  8. Which team was that? i have no idea what he is talking about, you guys i really think Z will dominate tomorrow night at wrigley... get ready for that nasty philly lineup, the cubs are moving on to the next round! :yahoo:
  9. it won't happen, but i think the best plan is to let demp and wood walk sign burnett
  10. i also hope hendry just tells everyone that the whole team is available then evaluate the offers...you never know until you try
  11. i would like to see rothschild gone i want pie to be given a chance i would love for us to go after peavy i would let dempster walk only if we can land burnett/peavy i would let woody walk, albeit that would suck, but oh well, no use paying that much for a closer i would see about signing renteria ward is also gone cedeno just needs to go back to school
  12. I agree completely with this (even if my still-frustrated attitude doesn't). Here's a question though: Assuming Dempster does not return, who do you think we should go after and who do you think we will go after? It may be too early to answer at this point, but I'd like your input if you can. Burnett I like your thinking. High injury risk, so I wouldn't pay a ton, but otherwise may be a good investment. there is also no doubt that he wants to pitch for this team
  13. why don't we just sign renteria?
