  1. We can always hope that Tanaka's physical shows he needs TJS and when the Yankees hesitate, Tanaka decides to take our offer because he would possibly be ready to pitch when we're ready to compete.
  2. Obviously you're biased (like most of us). They are an old and flawed team, while we are younger and more flawed (at this point). Everyone will agree on the minor league system, but with enough money they can bypass having prospects by signing FAs. They have money and they are in NY. To anyone outside of a die-hard Cub fan, those are pretty good reasons to pick NY.
  3. This is what you call jumping the gun a little bit: http://www.konsume.com/k/story-400
  4. Levine: Cubs May Be In Lead For Tanaka I get a kick out of him putting in the word "may" in the headline.
  5. koufax and gibson rolled into one would be due 55 million a season. i suspect we'll get tanaka for south of that. Let's hope so or else poor Tom Ricketts will really be poor Tom Ricketts.
  6. Your obsession about me is pretty repetitive too. Well, I don't find your obsession with me as being funny. Actually, I find it kind of sad, pathetic, and more than a little creepy.

  8. If you think the offseason is slow, just wait till the season starts. Jesus shut the [expletive] up already I'm sorry that a post about reality interrupted your fantasies about Japanese women and baseball mascots. It's got nothing to do with that. It's pretty easy to look in a thread at this point and figure when it's time for the "witty" B2B one liner about we're going to suck. The only thing I don't have down yet is you're pretty random at including the laughing smilie at your own stuff about as much as a league average NBA 3 point shooter. You may not like where we're at(Other than Arguello, no one is) but it is what it is, finding ANYTHING to talk about is a good thing. Especially if it's original, even if it's offbase. It's also pretty darn predictable that whatever I post, "certain people" are going to make a personal comment about me. I do find it interesting that when others post about how bad the Cubs are going to be, those "certain people" don't respond in the same way.

  11. This news ought to get the fans excited just before the Cubs' Convention and the sale of season tickets.
  12. You mean that time in the not too distance future when the Cubs make up 20-25 games on the 3 teams in the division that have prospects as good as ours.
  13. I suppose that it's just a coincedence that these are the teams that will probably offer the most money.
  14. Let the baseball writers narrow the eligible names down to a list of 15 and then let the public vote.
  15. Thankfully he didn't plan on meeting in Chicago early this week. Nothing like a first impression that includes delayed flights, heavy snow, -59 degree wind chills, impassable roads, and 30 mph winds.
  16. Gurnick figured out how to get his 15 minutes of fame.
  17. This same guy wrote this article previously... http://sports.yahoo.com/news/three-pitchers-chicago-cubs-acquire-david-price-isnt-162800724--mlb.html For those who don't feel like reading more from this guy, he lists Tanaka as the #1 priority for the pitching staff this offseason. He really goes out on a limb by suggesting that. LOL
  18. None of these guys received a 2 yr deal with a players option for a third on a team that the FO thinks will compete. There is a difference between how the current regime sees these guys and how Hendry saw the long list of players he was suckered in by. All of this is ancient history and comparing apples to oranges. Hendry was told to buy players to try to produce a winning team and given a large budget to do it. Theo has decided to dumpster dive for a few years and hope that the accumulated prospects eventually build a winning team. Two completely different approaches affected by two different ownership groups.
  19. Kapler is going to be an awesome coach one day. I'm disappointed he was never considered for the Cubs job. considering our current coach attends press conferences in a wheel chair or whatever, i'd say there's still a chance And that's before dealing with our roster.
  20. I've never understood this line of thinking. Suzuki isn't even a natural born Japanese player, he's from Hawaii. Who knows if he even speaks the language. Put yourself in Tanaka's shoes. Does one Japanese team having a random guy with American background really factor in to whether or not you'd sign with that team? I figured he was talking about Ichiro...not that a lot of other things aren't still wrong with that. Makes more sense at least. Even so, I don't believe it's at all a factor. If having a Japanese speaking teammate is a big factor then Theo I'm available for one hell of a lot cheaper than you can land Ichiro. Hope Theo is reading this. http://www.rosettastone.com/lp/sbs/?rsi=redcmbgd&cid=se-bing-redcmbgd
  21. I think the Cubs would have to do a lot more than that to show him that they're ready to compete, but it sure wouldn't hurt. He's no dummy. He and his agent know that the Cubs are well guided and on the rise. Who knows whether that will matter. I'm sure the Cubs will make him feel wanted. I hope they have the money and the willingness to spend it. At this point, no one here knows what the deciding factor will be. Nobody knows what the deciding factor will be, but $$$$$$$$ would be a good guess. I think the whole reason this conversation is being had is because of the reports that the Cubs won't be out-bid but still could have a hard time convincing him to come here. I'm not so sure the Cubs won't be outbid as long as two of the interested teams are the Yankees and Dodgers. It certainly would help our chances if they were worried about the luxury tax, but I don't think that's going to stop them.

  23. I remember the promise of building on "dual fronts".
