  1. 1. Bradley talks crap about the Cubs fans and organizations... how much money do you think we lose? 2. Bradley helps take the Cubs to the playoffs next season.... how much money do you think we gain? I'll give you a hint. One of these numbers is MUCH larger than the other. The problem with your argument is that #1 will certainly happen while #2 possibly could happen. If Bradley returns, under-produces, and continues to be the jerk he was this year, the Cubs won't make the playoffs.
  2. Except I'm sure the Cubs would have to throw in $$$ to cover most of what Bradley would make in 2011.
  3. Well that makes no damn sense. There are thousands of outstanding baseball players, football players, and basketball players who are playing pickup games because they couldn't accept the discipline necessary to fit into a team situation and follow some simple rules like play hard, shut up, show up, show up on time, and show respect your team mates and coach.
  4. The only problem is that Burrell is a DH and the Cubs play in the NL. (please don't tell me that Burrell can play the OF)
  5. Why don't we keep Bradley and trade all 24 other players, replace all of the coaches, replace everyone in the front office, and move the team to some small town in Nebraska where there will be minimal fans and media to bother him. All problems solved! Why are you taking this so personally? you're acting like an idiot. I think it's idiotic that people are looking for a way to smooth things over with Bradley and are jumping all over Hendry. Bradley has acted like a jerk and Hendry suspended him (with pay) and posters are upset that the GM of a team that's still playing wants to wait until the season is over (less than 2 weeks) to sit down and talk with him. Hendry was wrong for signing him and giving him that contract, but he's done nothing wrong in this situation. To tell the truth, if some GM had done this at the beginning of Bradley's career, he might be an angry greeter at Walmart instead of a ML ballplayer.
  6. This is a great post BBB, but the bottom line is that Milton Bradley have severe mental and anger issues to the point of irrationality, so he can't explain his behavior or recognize the error of his ways. Whenever he "snaps" he can't control his mouth or his actions. I don't know if medication or therapy would work, but it's too complicated for any of us to really comprehend.

  8. Because he would have fought the move to the DL, the MLBPA would have gotten involved and it never would have worked. That would create a hell of a lot more animosity and a "there's no coming back" situation than the current team suspension. Hmmm, I wonder if that's part of the reason he was suspended. Hendry wanted to DL him due to the knee issue, Bradley told him no he was able to play, and then when called upon said he couldn't. Don't let Paul Sullivan hear that or it will be reported as the truth. Why are you making things up to defend a guy who has had serious "issues" his whole career? Bradley has acted like this his whole career and that's why nobody wants him.
  9. He's been a douche his whole career. He deserves it. fixed
  10. I think the expiration date has passed on Hermida's potential/upside. At this point what you see is what you get: a below avg corner OF, both offensively and defensively. Uggla, I think they'd want a fortune for. I read awhile ago that the Marlins might DFA Hermida. He might be interesting if we can get him really cheap. A mix of Fukudome/Johnson/Hermida in CF/RF could be tolerable. My only problem with Cameron is that he's going to be very expensive (especially if we're paying Bradley too). Hendry had looked at Cody Ross before and he might be an interesting pickup. David DeJesus might be worth looking at too. None of these options addresses the "adding speed and athleticism" mantra we've been hearing.
  11. He's suspended from the team, how is he supposed to get the apology to his teammates in Milwaukee before the Cubs release it to the media? Somehow, I'm sure he could have figured out a way with 21st century technology. He certainly didn't apologize to his team mates for his antics while he was still with the team.
  12. I don't think Bradley can really offer a sincere apology because of his "issues" there is 100% chance he's going to repeat his actions. He causes problems whether he's producing or not. All of this talk about Hendry and comparing Zambrano to Bradley is garbage. Hendry shouldn't have signed him (let alone for $30 million over 3 years) because Bradley was a certified loon who shows great baseball ability in between his mental breakdowns and his DL stints. To take Bradley's side in all of this is ridiculous. For those of you comparing Zambrano to Bradley, offer to trade each of them and see how many GMs line up. Zambrano is an goofy overgrown boy, while Bradley is a angry man with serious mental health issues. From MLBTR: •According to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat (via Twitter), Cubs players didn't find out about Milton Bradley's apology until his statement was released to the media Wednesday afternoon. That certainly won't help the level of perceived sincerity
  13. 1. If the front office is professional and care about winning, they wouldn't allow a bridge to be burnt. 2. See #1 3. I don't give a [expletive] about the fans. 4. I care even less about the media. 5. See #1. I don't necessarily disagree that the way Milton is might leave him beyond repair in this environment, but if he wants to come back and the Cubs don't have an open dialogue about it because he hurt somebody's feelings then they're idiots. The best use of Bradley's 10M salary next year is it being spent on him playing for the Cubs, not being spent on him not playing for the Cubs, or being spent +8M more on Magglio Ordonez or whatever other overpriced crap is out there. Let's pretend that Bradley and the front office come together and make up with Bradley apologizing to everyone. Do you really believe that Bradley can keep his head screwed on when the fans and the media get on him (which they certainly will). The first time he strikes out, misses a game, or is asked a question from the media, Mount Milton will erupt. BTW, I think everyone agrees that a mentally-controlled Milton Bradley is the best answer to the RF problem, but does such a person exist?
  14. Why can't people understand that a "PR apology" can't happen because Bradley can't help himself, he has serious mental health issues. If he swallowed his pride and made the apology, it would last about 2 weeks before he would explode again. As soon as fans taunt him (which they will) or a member of the media asks a tough question (which they will), he will go into a frenzy again. If it was a matter of apologizing to the front office, his manager, the fans, the media, OR his team mates he might stand a chance, but he has burned bridges with the front office, his manager, the fans, the media, AND his team mates.
  15. AMEN! I'm tired of everybody blaming the Cubs, the media, the fans, his kid's teachers etc. Milton Bradley has serious mental health issues as anyone who has watched his career over the years can tell you.
  16. The Cubs don't have to deal Bradley, but they will and unfortunately it will probably involve eating his contract, getting nothing in return, or taking on a bad contract. The Cubs pride themselves on their image and there's no way Hendry, the team, the media, and the fans are all going to let this blow over. It's just a matter of time before Bradley would "go off" on somebody (or everybody) again. The only chance Bradley has to "start over" is to go to a new team. We can only hope Hendry can salvage something out of this mess.
  17. As I've posted before, a healthy Ramirez and Soriano certainly would have kept the Cubs in contention. All teams have to prepare for injuries, but there's no way to prepare for the excessive injuries that the Cubs (and Mets) had this year.
  18. Was Bud Black manager in SD when he had to restrain Bradley from attacking an ump and Bradley ended up twisting his knee or something? I doubt he wants to go through any of that again. Obviously it was a racist ump.
  19. I'm not a miracle worker. Finding one team to get involved with Milton Bradley is hard enough.
  20. The Cubs owe Bradley $21 million, so if we give Cleveland $10 million and Wood $10 million we end up with a mediocre relief pitcher instead of a clubhouse cancer. The alternative is to pay Bradley $18-$19 million to play for another team and we receive a player who will never step foot on a major league diamond. I know there's no way the name Alex Gordon should be mentioned in "Dump Milton Bradley Thread". I have no delusions of Kerry Wood being great. It's simply a bad contract for another bad contract. Wood could serve some purpose to the Cubs as opposed to Bradley (or the low A-Ball player we would get in return) for the same money except Wood has a 1 year contract and Bradley has 2 years.
  21. ESPN.com's Buster Olney hears that the Rangers probably wouldn't welcome Milton Bradley back. Here's the latest on the now-suspended outfielder, along with the rest of Olney's rumors: Olney says the Cubs will likely have to eat a huge portion of Bradley's contract to move him, perhaps as much as $18-19MM. The Cubs owe the 31-year-old $21MM over the next two years. The Padres may be looking for a corner outfielder this offseason, so they could have interest in Bradley. Olney says baseball people presume Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi will be fired. (What do you think?) If the Jays cut ties with their GM, Cubs scouting director Tim Wilken could be a candidate to replace him. Clubs expect the Indians to consider moving Kerry Wood this offseason. Cleveland is rebuilding, so they'd presumably be happy to unload his $10.5MM salary. How about Bradley + $10 million + prospect for Wood. Indians get Bradley and prospect "free" for 2010 and possibly flip him at deadline or after next season. Cubs save about $8 million in bribe money (to dump Bradley) and get somewhat useful relief pitcher. Obviously, Cubs do not take Wood's option for 2011.
  22. How can people relax when there's a chance to criticize Hendry (even though it's only speculation from Paul Sullivan of all people).
  23. yeah, not much Chicago experience here, but I did live in Dallas for 5 years. Very taken aback by how much racism floats around in the Lone Star state, didn't get that vibe in Chicago, but i also didn't live there for 5 years I taught in the inner city of Chicago for 34 years and racism is alive and well in Chicago, but so is a certain segment of African-Americans who blame racism for everything that happens to them. It doesn't take a psychology major to see that Milton Bradley has serious mental health issues and has had them for years. He has had emotional problems in every city he has been in and well before he ever arrived in Chicago.
  24. Why would Baltimore want him? Their OF is set. What they need is a big time slugger. I also don't see MacPhail putting Bradley with his prized youngsters. Of all the teams out there, I still think the Mets are the best fit. I know not many want Luis Castillo (although he's still a decent top of the order bat who runs the bases fairly well for his age), but we likely have to take back a bad deal if we make a trade (along with eating money). Minaya may be desperate enough ... they are talking about adding an OF bat anyways, and they've been rumored to be wanting to go after Orlando Hudson this offseason (not sure why they wouldn't prioritize adding a pitcher first, but that's not my concern). Nothing's ideal ... but that's the one swap that makes the most sense to me out of all the names that have been bandied. Castillo would be a bad contract fit for the Cubs and the Mets could use an OF, but Bradley in NY with their fans and media would certainly be a problem. Maybe Ghandi-like Jerry Manuel could calm Bradley down.
