  1. Please inform us how they work. Well, the old timers, like Aaron and Mays (and the hundreds of other guys from the 50s to the 80s that used them), used them because the PEDs allowed them to be able to play at the same level all season, even during the dog days when it was 85 and humid at night. They kept the players bodies from wearing down during the season. I'd assume the new guys, A-Rod, McGwire (and the hundreds other guys from the 90's and 00's that used them), used them for the same reasons. Hrm... so what you could say is that the drugs enhanced the performance. Very interesting. That's kind of the definition of Performance Enhancing Drugs. And yes, they've been providing MLB an exciting performance boost since 1946.

  3. The comments at the bottom of the article. It's hilarious. One person suggesting they should move to the burbs because it takes too long for them to get to Wrigley. Who do these people think they are? I want them to move to the burbs just to shove it up Tunney and the rooftop owner's [expletive]. Then they can do what they want to the stadium without [expletive] around with his dumb [expletive].
  4. 6'4 200 really isn't that outrageous for a 16 yo. My son's two best friends are 6'6 215 (he turned 16 in May) and 6'5 285 (he turned 16 in March). It's probably a good thing, my son just turned 17 and is 5'6 145.
  5. What does that mean? I think he might be saying that nobody here realizes it's normal Chicago politics. If he's not...then I have no clue what he might be saying. I don't understand how he could think that, or what nuance has to do with anything, or why the bridge is the only focus. Yeah, me either. I'm thinking Tunney is purely trying to play up to his constituents to be able to tell them that he stood up to the big bad Cubs and did everything he could to be a pain in the ass.

  7. No, I haven't. Which is really surprising even though I don't live in Chicago.
  8. That's what I was thinking. If it were UIC, that would be one thing, but...
  9. Ha, beat you!!! :P Honestly, doesn't surprise me one bit they are pulling this crap.
  10. I didn't really want to start a new thread. Brett linked this from his site. http://www.suntimes.com/20088232-761/exclusive-rahm-to-announce-300-million-depaul-stadium-plan-for-mccormick-place.html Brett's take...http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/05/14/obsessive-wrigley-renovation-watch-mayor-reportedly-pushing-for-publicly-funded-arena-for-depaul/
  11. I just happened to think, I was perusing Youtube the other day and ran across the Glenallen Hill HR video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wDrw76ieTs. It was interesting to look back and see how little the rooftops were built up. They all looked like they had bleachers, but most looked like something you'd see at the local Little League field. And that was in 2000 (IIRC) And that compared to the time I went to one (an early April series and the rooftop was freaking cold) around 20-ish years ago, and none of the rooftops had any seating, you had to stand to see.
  12. I'm guessing they don't need to. IIRC, the wording was such that after a certain number of years (which has passed) the contract didn't offer much protection of the rooftop views. A while back, Brett linked an article saying essentially that any expansion of Wrigley that was approved by government wouldn't be a violation of the rooftop deal. I can't see the original, it's behind a pay/register wall at the Trib, but here's Brett's article with an embedded link. http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/02/04/obsessive-wrigley-renovation-watch-some-reported-details-about-the-contract-with-the-rooftops/
  13. It does have a very Major League feel to it doesn't it? You just picture some construction worker going "Sheerhatz? Who is that [expletive] guy?"
  14. There are a whole bunch of stereotypes and not many facts being thrown around in this conversation. Thanks for using some facts. Except this information doesnt mean anything. So Sara Lee is in Downers and Kraft is in Northbrook so we should put a stadium in the suburbs? Obviously you guys know there are more people living/working in Chicago than any cluster of suburbs agglomerated onto chicago. The "suburbs" isnt a single place its hundreds of miles of sprawl. But, isn't the point that if you have people willing to travel into the city from those spread out areas, wouldn't they also be willing to travel to one of those other spread out areas? And would those fans in the city be willing to travel? It's not about population density in a 1 sq mile area of a much larger overall area, it's about the total number of people within that area that are willing to travel.
  15. Yes, let's pour some out for brethren from Kankakee I do not live in Kankankee, but Tim has a point. Going to Wrigley is a nightmare at times if you are driving in from out of town. In from out of town as in, Elmhurst or Rockford or Des Moines? I live a ways NE of Des Moines. We actually stay in Joliet when we come over for games (used to live there and still have a bunch of friends there). It's cheaper for a hotel and we just take the Metra in then walk over to the Red Line. That said, I wouldn't have a problem with either option. My #1 choice is for them to refurbish Wrigley, but either way, I can live with it. Now, I can see why someone that lives in the city and goes to more than a couple of series per year would have a problem with them actually moving, but I have no idea why someone would have a problem with it being used as a bargaining chip in an effort to get a deal for Wrigley done.
  16. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/195892071.html I got nailed by a scorpion at Fort Irwin, sucked something fierce.
  17. I'd love the first one, not so much the second. I'd love to get Olt, but not for what the Cubs would give up in that deal.
  18. And, so we come to the tomato... It's a fruit. Period. No discussion needed. A berry, specifically, in case you were curious. I know but I can't accept it. You're not the only one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nix_v._Hedden I don't understand why people have a hard time with "if it has seeds, it's not a vegetable" So why aren't they broadcasting any games for the next 10 days or so? And why are they showing games every day of the first weekend of March Madness? That is annoying. Wait, peppers aren't considered vegetables? If not, what the heck are they considered then? Botanically they are a fruit.
  19. Yes, please, in regards to the jumbotron. It's about time they get one. As far as the uniforms, I realize I'm probably in the minority, but a modified, updated version of these... http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/images/nl_1914_chicago.gif would work for me. But, I'd also be good with the all whites posted above, even with the big C, though I'd like the bear in the C rather than ubs. I'd also like to see them darken the blue, I like the navy look of olden days better than the current color.
  20. Wait... there weren't bleachers on the rooftops??? WTH??? Seriously, I would love it if they would remodel to something similar to what the park originally looked like. Once I saw pictures of the park as it was, I always thought it was a better, cleaner look.
  21. I love that next to the Rangers is a picture of Pierzynski.
  22. Obviously written before the Campana trade..
  23. Who is saying this? Show me. Not here. Mainly Twitter and such. You need to follow some different people then, I've seen nothing of the sort.
  24. Impressive
  25. fine, we don't have to play the "if" game. right now, iowa state has a better resume than iowa. end of story. Based on what? rpi, bpi, every projected bracket in the world? Sagarin, Kenpom and head to head favor Iowa. when wisconsin gets a 1 seed i'll start putting some value in ken poms bracket predicting abilities. So you'll admit you'll favor whatever gives ISU the advantage and ignore whatever doesn't. Alright, how bout that head to head, going to ignore that too?
