  1. Is there a link to that quote somewhere?? Rotoworld??
  2. They said the may get the deal done after the game. Hopefully Hendry realizes what is going on and stops the deal. Do you really think Hendry would be able to figure it out... or do anything??? Although he did just get rid of Izturis, so anything is possible.
  3. I don't have a problem with Pagan. Cheap, decent #'s for a backup, some speed and decent D. If used properly, he fills a role pretty well. I wouldn't be heartbroken to see him go, but why should he. Jones on the other hand...
  4. Isn't this the third city he's played for them in??
  5. They're not going to fire an owner for saying that... let alone, how does one fire a baseball owner anyway? But he's a moron, most of his team was probably on steroids... if you're going to be pissed that you got ripped off by Juan Gone, than also be pissed off that the thoroughly-juicy Rafael Palmeiro put up HoF-caliber numbers for your team. Or that Pudge enhanced his power numbers with roids. Can probably throw Dean Palmer in there too. And those are just the more obvious ones. Could we throw Kapler in there too?
  6. $12.5 mil through '08, $16.5 mil club option in '09 ($4 mil buyout). So he'd be roughly $18 mil through '08 it seems. I thought for sure I saw somewhere that Griffey's contract was deferred and that he'd be getting paid yearly all the way through 2024. Oh yeah, I'm [expletive], didn't bother reading beyond the yearly amounts, haha... So essentially, Griffey at $6mil?? I'd do that. Marshall and Jones, kick in a minor league pitcher if needed. Don't know who'd they'd want or need past Marshall. Edit: I realize the other 6.5 mil would come later, but that could get figured in easier to a future salary structure.
  7. I was there too. My son wanted his birthday party there. Too bad it didn't turn out better.
  8. Actually Raisin posted it first (in another thread in this forum). That's how I found out about it. Soto started at C last night and moved to first in the 4th-5th inn. Probably a good thing for his shoulder since Richie took a heck of a shot on a play at the plate. How he held the ball I'm not sure, since it sure looked like he got hit as he was catching it.
  9. I was at the game last night, he just missed a second one and I think he hit that one better than the HR.
  10. The reason it didn't come out correctly is that you had the "disable bbcode in this post" box checked. I un-checked the box, and if you look at your earlier post again you'll see it's fine now. You were using the correct code, but having that box checked overrode it. Ahh, thanks NC.
  11. Quick off-topic question, how do I get the quoted areas to come up correctly and make my post easier to read?
  12. The Cubs have a black hole at SS this year. Last in the NL with an OPS of 555. And before you say Theriot has turned that around, his OPS at SS is 474. Fontenot doesn't play SS. Neither is "good enough" to make this team better. They are 13th in RF and 12th at catcher. The other positions are middle of the road or near the top. The best way to improve this team is to improve the production they get at SS, RF and C. Since it's going to be impossible to improve at C, the choice is finding a real RF or a real SS. They currently do not have either. There is a chance that when all is said and done that a platoon of Floyd and a revitalized Murton will put them at least to middle of the road at RF. As for SS, they basically have zero chance of getting respectable production out of the group they currently have in the fold. Excellently put. Agree on all counts. That's why I'm for getting Tejada (or any other large upgrade) depending on what the player cost is, of course. And for those that are concerned that Tejada is declining, while you may be right, so what? How much and how quickly is he declining and from what height? When you ask yourself those all important questions, he is still a way better option than anything the Cubs have currently or could realistically hope to acquire which begs the question how realistic is it that the Cubs could acquire Tejada. I think its clear that the Cubs should go after him. What is unclear is can they get him... His average and OBP are pretty consistent with the past few years( both higher than career numbers), but his power numbers have fallen, which is odd since he's not at an age where you'd expect to see drastically lower HR totals. He would be a HUGE improvement over the Cubs SS though.
  13. I'm not advocating giving the Reds everything plus the kitchen sink, however, the Cubs are paying Jones and Floyd( also, Murt before his demotion) $8.5 mil to play right and put up much worse numbers than Dunn currently has. If the Cubs could find a way to rid themselves of two of Jones/Izzy/Eyre, then getting Dunn would definitely help this team. With at least two of those gone, the money would balance fairly well. The only condition would be not to give up any of the top guys in the system. I don't know what the Reds would want( especially with their love of middle relief), but would a Eyre/S Moore/Pawalek( not those three specifically, but types and level of ability)type of deal work, assuming they could drop off Jones for a donut?
  14. Makes sense to me. Ramirez is a better hitter than Floyd or Soriano. Getting him up more frequently is a good idea. Floyd is no 3 or 4 hitter at this stage of his career though. I agree about Floyd. I just thought it made more sense to move Lee up in the order, instead of Ramirez down, assuming Floyd IS going to be between them for a while. Of course, why should we be putting sense into this, it is the Cubs after all.
  15. I realize I'm no genious in all things baseball, but if Lou wants to split up Lee and Ramirez with Floyd in between them, why not move Lee into the 2 spot, with Floyd 3rd and Ramirez 4th. If nothing else it gets your best hitter to the plate with one out instead of two. Follow that up with Theriot leading off and Soriano hitting 5th? Or am I just whacked out by the suckiness of this team?
  16. The way I see it, and I'd love to have only the most deserving players in the ASG, there's plenty of guys that make it each year that either shouldn't be there or should be further down the list. So at least by getting Theriot voted in( not likely) it would be our guy there for once, instead of someone elses undeserving player beating out our guy.
  17. I know it's not to the same scale, but when the same thing happened at Iowa the day before a football game, they still played, but Hayden Fry had the team pull all of the gold stickers off of their helmets as a show of respect and thoughts for the students and admins killed. I think a moment of silence would be appropriate at all of the games, and possibly the VT patch for the Nats. I don't think anything more would be neccesary.
  18. Hello all, the first thing that popped into my mind was... would Narron have benched him if he were doing push-ups at home instead of running.
