  1. [-X =; Why can I imagine Hendry at least considering this?
  2. Get it done Jim. We'll pay him that extra 1 million. I'm in full agreement with the last two posts.
  3. I won't guarantee this, but it appears one of yours is right. His career ave is higher than one of the correct guesses and I can't find where he might have lead the league. One of your guesses lead 3 times and one lead once. I'm not going to give away names for those still playing, though, just in case.
  4. Surely his all time slugging isn't that high. He isn't even a HOFer. I just looked him up, he's right by Ott, so I guess I get a big fat zero.
  5. As I was looking up some of the great years on B-R, I noticed Gehrig had 400+ total bases 5 times in his career, the next best that I could find was Ruth and Sosa at two each( I thought Ruth had more than that). Not that TB's are a highly important stat, but still 5 times? That's mashing the ball.
  6. Harry from Mac, Jurko, and Harry said he has an inside source that tells him that Roberts will be a Cub in two days.        which two days? March 2nd and 3rd 2016. Then he'll retire.
  7. I just looked it up, I'd have never gotten the correct answer. Good question. =D>
  8. Got to be a one year wonder. Prior? David Clyde? Sid Finch? Complete guess... Sam McDowell?
  9. Lou Gehrig in 1927: .373/.474/.765, 221 OPS+, 47 HR, 175 RBI, 52 doubles, 18 triples, 149 runs THOSE GUYS BATTED BACK TO BACK!!! How in the lord did Gehrig get any RBI's with Ruth batting in front of him? I wish it didn't take me forever to find those numbers, because this was the first season I thought of.
  10. Do you suppose Babe was juicing on something other than hot dogs and beer in those years? How about Gehrig in 1927: .373/.474/.765 221 OPS+ 218 hits /47 HRs /175 RBI/ 109 BB /52 2B /18 3b/149 runs
  11. Where have you been "Aramis"? I think this was reported at least a month ago that the Cubs were toying with the idea of trying Cedeno out in the OF. Mainly in CF, if it works out. I believe in the Minor Leagues forum, Raisin has been talking about Cedeno playing CF in winter leagues.
  12. Where has anyone said DeRosa is better? The argument in the mega-thread was how big of an upgrade was Roberts, and whether he was worth the amount of prospects/current major leaguers supposedly offered. All things being equal most would probably take Roberts any day of the week, but we already have DeRo and would have to trade assets for Roberts. That makes him somewhat less appealling, particularly since Theriot will still( most likely) be at short. As was mentioned earlier: Peralta + DeRo>>>Theriot + Roberts Given what it would cost in a trade, Peralta would most likely be a better fit for us.
  13. Calm down. Rosenthal just said the Cubs might be looking for a center fielder, so he threw their name in. It bothers me that anytime there is what appears to be a purely speculative rumor, we read a barrage of posts saying that "The Cubs are so stupid" and "Hendry is a moron." The problem is that Hendry has made enough moves in the past that warrant those types of posts. If he had a history of selling high, buying low and making deals that 6 months down the road look great, people would give him the benefit of the doubt and figure he already has something lined up to improve elsewhere( #2 SP, SS etc). Currently, some think he makes moves on the spur of the moment or just to make a move. I just think he's inconsistent is his judgement of what the Cubs really need. Sometimes he fills a need with a great deal, sometimes he fills a need that doesn't exist.
  14. Holy crap, I'd rather have Theriot there than Eck. At least Ryan is cheap. Of course, given the possible choices( on the current roster), I'd rather have Ronny there.
  15. And you guessed wrong. Let's take Jimmy Rollins as an example, since he was in the NL and served as the Phillies lead-off hitter most of the season. Rollins had 778 plate appearances last season, which not only led the majors in 2007 but also established a single-season major league record. He had 675 of them batting in the first spot in the order. In 153 games played, he led off an inning a total of 287 times, which comes out to 1.88 times per game. What if you take out the 100 PAs he didn't hit 1st? I'd imagine that would put that number closer to 2, which would make his statement on base. I'd probably have to go game-by-game to do that, and well, I'm lazy. But we could look at Soriano's numbers. He had a larger percentage of his at-bats as the first hitter in the lineup. He had 617 plate appearances, with 577 coming in the first spot in the order. He led off an inning 233 times in 135 games, which is 1.73 times per game. Oops, I missed 2 PA's.

What if you take out the 100 PAs he didn't hit 1st? I'd imagine that would put that number closer to 2, which would make his statement on base. Yes, but how many of those 100 PA's( which he was 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc in the order) did he still lead off an inning other than the first. Although the percentage wouldn't be anywhere near as high, there's got to be some. Besides, I think the point was that he set a record for PA's, was a leadoff hitter the vast majority of the season and still didn't lead off an inning 2x's a game on average. For comparison, if ESPNs numbers are right, Soriano lead off an inning 1.71 times per game ( 231 leadoff PA's/135 games).
  17. If the Cubs make no more moves this offseason, I'll be pretty confident in our pitching staff, assuming Z, Lilly, Hill, Marshall and Marquis are the starting 5 and Dempster is back in the bullpen. I also don't have a problem with the lineup, assuming Pie is in it and Theriot isn't, I'd rather have Ronny start 150 games than Theriot, again assuming there's no further changes. If there are further changes, the first change needs to be a SS that can hit. Greene or Peralta would be great. I'd only acquire Roberts if he or DeRo is moved to SS, I don't particularly care if either can play SS at anything above below average. Having DeRo on the bench as a super-sub while Theriot gets 500-600 ABs is asinine.
  18. I won't claim to be a genius about these matters, but if that is true, would it be possible to add, say, Pie and Marshall and get Bedard added to that? Don't jump on my head, just wondering if those five could get Bedard and Roberts, or is that out of the question. I'm just thinking that Z, Lilly, Hill and Bedard looks like a good first four of the rotation, and get Kenny Lofton for the year. Roberts isn't a horrible acquisition, and although it doesn't really address a need, at least they're getting a guy that doesn't suck, which is a step up for Hendry. Beats Neifi or Macias.
  19. Edit: Oops, wrong click. Anyway, maybe, just maybe, he's like Hendry in that he's a good scout and bad GM. Just grasping for anything that might resemble a bright side. You can go back to your worrying now.
  20. I seem to remember a funny one about Grace visiting the mound and overhearing a conversation between Zimmer and Sutcliffe. It was really quite good. Oops. hit submit too soon. I think you're talking about Sutcliffe giving up back to back homers and the pitching coach( who's name escapes me) coming out to the mound. Sut told him to get his fat *** back to the dugout, and he told Sut he just came out to give the fireworks guys a chance to reload. Grace said he blew a snot bubble out of his nose he was laughing so hard. Heard Grace tell that story somewhere, Dan Patrick show maybe??
  21. if you like the desert climate. i don't. I hated my three years at Ft Irwin, CA. When I left I couldn't believe how much I missed it.
  22. Greene is a good player who is extremely hindered by playing in Petco. He'd also be replacing a player that isn't good. As to your "points": 1. Theriot bats right handed. Moot point. 2. Again, neither does Theriot. Except here, Greene has a lot of power for a SS and his numbers would improve at Wrigley. 3. Strike outs? Lame. 4. Batting Average? Super lame. 5. First, defense isn't near as important as offense. Second, errors aren't a good way to judge defense at all. Third, Greene made 11 errors last year at SS, Theriot 8 (and 11 overall). Plus, his number at Petco are pretty much even with Theriots total numbers. And Greene's numbers on the road destroy his numbers at home. I believe Meph showed a comparison that suggested he would be around .800-.820(low end) at Wrigley.
  23. Am I remembering it wrong, or is he the one Hendry robbed more than once for decent players? Ie. No, don't want him. Not that he'll make Hendry worse than he already is.
  24. Nah, the other twelve got traded.
