  1. That can't be right. Edgar Gonzalez (I think they who I assume you are talking about) is a mediocre backup INF, who's biggest claim to fame is the fact the he is the big brother of Padres 1st baseman Adrian Gonzalez. So I assume the Padres are trying to build the team around ADRIAN, and not EDGAR Gonzalez. You are completely right, I must edit now...I am surprised no one else caught that enormous error  thank you friend
  2. I've heard from friends in San Diego(also San Diego sports radio reports) that the Padres want to build their ball club around speed. They are looking for a speedy major league ready centerfielder in return for Peavy(per Andy Masur on the SCORE yesterday) and are unwilling to take any salary in return. The goal for San Diego is to build a speed lineup set around A.Gonzalez, so do the Cubs have the right parts in order to help the Padres achieve their goal?
  3. Great post! The Padres want the max they can get for Peavy, they really do not have to trade him so why would they settle for the mediocre. Headley, Hundley and Antonelli would not be value for Carlos Zambrano, so why on earth would the Padres accept that type of deal for Peavy.
  4. Gerut and Hairston have not been 'prospects' of any kind in quite some time. Both are full-time MLB players and have been for a few years. Comparing them to the Cubs names being floated - besides probably Cedeno, who has been around a couple years now - is not really an accurate comparison. I don't know where you get your information, but Gerut hasn't played anything close to full time since 4 years ago, and Hairston has never been a full time player career. He has yet to break 350 ABs in a season. They are both absolutely comparable to Cedeno and Johnson in terms of value. Not that this argument has anything to do with any teams chances of landing Peavey. I meant full time as in they're always with the big club. that means little, especially when that big club has the crap on it's roster that SD has. I guess you guys missed the "distant past" part. If you remember both Hairston(DBacks) and Gerut(Indians) were hyped by their original organizations only to fizzle out in the big leagues. So throwing names out like Vitters, Pie, Castillo is completely comparable in terms of value because at one time both Gerut and Hairston were considered elite prospects and had more value then almost any Cubs farmhand mention as a trade possibility. Getting back to the original post, the Cubs would expect young proven major league talent in return for Z. Not the "Scott Hairston" Type prospect(when he was a prospect)or "Joey Gerut" type prospect(when he was a prospect) or even the "Over hyped Cubs prospect of the month " type prospect which posters have mentioned in terms of a potential Peavy trade. Think about this from a Padres fans point of view. Would you as a Cub fan accept four to five mediocre prospects as the value of Carlos Zambrano if a trade had to be made?
  5. Soto WILL BE a Cub in 2009 but it does not stop other teams from ask for him in return in any trade discussions. The Cubs farm system is pretty weak so that's a huge reach saying that the Cubs even have five Gerut or Hairston level prospects in the minors. I specifically choose those two to mention because at one time in the distant past they were both well overrated prospects, just like almost anyone in the Cubs system and that's exactly what the Padres will try to avoid.
  6. Think about if the Cubs were to trade Z to the Padres to rid themselves of salary. What would the Cubs ask for then? The Cubs would not be asking for spare parts like Joey Gerut and Scott Hairston. They would want young talent so realistically do you think the Padres could justify a Peavy trade without landing Marmol or Soto?
  7. The Padres do not want to add salary so that is the only reason why Soto would ever be discussed. A young potential superstar catcher is a major asset the Padres would love to acquire so I would imagine that the conversation for Peavy starts and ends with Geo. If the Cubs are serious about Peavy they must have put some thought into a future without Geo because anyone who has viewed a San Diego Padres game knows that catcher has been a black hole for that ball club. In my opinion I say sell high on Marmol and start from there. If the Padres balk at an offer headed by Marmol walk away. The only reason why Soto should be discussed from a Cubs view is if Gonzalez and Peavy are mentioned.
  8. The only way the Cubs could even enter talks for Peavy would start with Marmol or Soto. If you are willing to give either one up then you can seriously talk trade. The Padres will not take Cubs leftovers for Peavy.
  9. Any interest in Chone Figgins? OBP is solid and can play several positions The Cubs have already gone down the Brian Roberts road, and I seriously doubt Hendry will try that again. In my opinion I believe the Cubs need one lefty speed/contact guy (Kenny Lofton in 03) just for the postseason alone.
  10. The Cubs are at least 20+ runs up on every team in baseball. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings
  11. Grow the beard, it's magic.......... I have not shaved since the season started, and I am enjoying every moment since. I am going for the Bruce Sutter meets Johnny Damon cave man look. Only five weeks until school ends here in the 602 so I let my students vote on the beard or no beard look. Beard won in a landslide, so I can not shave until June. I plan on keeping the beard until August at least. If you can grow it, do...... You won't regret it
  12. Patterson will be the king of the late inning double switch, thats all. Lou is planning to play Derosa/Ward/Johnson in left so a call up of Murton would be a waste. I was not surprised by the move at all. If you watched any spring training games, you would know Lou loves an EPat double switch.
  13. Barry Bonds talk= Brian Roberts talk=pipe dream relax
  14. How about Brian Roberts???? He might come cheap!!!!
  15. Anything for a World Series in Wrigley!!!! Serious, 100 years is enough Even a deal with Barry (the devil himself).
  16. Did you guys go on Darvish's site? PURE MAGIC........................ http://darvish-yu.jp/index.html
  17. Freddy is due for a raise, http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3153495 I really don't think a deal is that far fetched, knowing the Bucs thrifty history. Jake, Can he play SS?
  18. What would you guys think of him at second and batting second for the Cubs? They do owe the Cubs a player, and I am sure they would listen to an offer for prospects.
  19. As a Cub fan living in Phoenix, I watched the Dbacks almost every day and the Dbacks are for real. I was amazed by this team this season, they have no offense yet they win ballgame after ballgame. They play great solid defense and the bullpen shuts it down from the 6th inning on. The starting pitching beside BWebb and Doug Davis is bad, I am talking Trachsel bad but they win ballgames. They just are a fundamental sound team all around and hardly ever make mistakes. Its going to be hard for the Cubs if they trail in any of games in this series because of that lights out bullpen, but if Big Z wins game 1I can easily see a sweep. Go Cubs!
  20. Section 304 row 20 Both Games cheap seats The only place where I could get 6 seats together but thats where I always sit so I am stoked.
  21. Just got tickets!!!!!!!!!!! Game 1 Game 2 4 generations of Cubs fans, My Grandfather, Father, Me and my Son all together for the playoffs. WRIGLEY FIELD WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Will anyone be at Chase Field to buy playoff tickets in 12 hours??? I will be there, at 6 am Phoenix time and the box office opens a 9 am Hope to see you Arizona Cubs fans there! Also for those of you in Chicago, internet sale starts at 9 am Phoenix time
  23. Pods would be ok for the last 2 months of the season. The Cubs are now a small ball team and need players to fit that style. Pods can play CF and LF hit 1, 2 or 8 or be solid off the bench. Like Kendall, it should be a low risk, high reward move. Anything to get the Cubs to the playoffs.
  24. I was just talking to a Royals fan and I completely forgot the Reggie Sanders even plays anymore, how about Reggie Sanders as a RHB off the bench and RF against LHP??? any thoughts.. Does any know what his contract is like?
  25. My wife(hates sports, is an Arizona native and thinks baseball is boring) is now watching the Cubs with me because people at her work are talking about the Cubs, so I guess our team is good, maybe. To be fair, my wife and I married in 2004 so she has never experienced a good Cubs team. I really can't blame her for not liking baseball after watching the trash in Wrigley the last two in a half years.
