  1. Heard on the radio that DeRo was taken to the hospital by ambulance because of heart palpatations (and because he complained of shortness of breath during 2B drills). Even thoug. Lou was quoted, in the story, stating he did not think it was serious, it might affect the Roberts trade. It was said that DeRosa has experienced this problem before. Perhaps it's just me but being ushered away in an ambulance seems serious.
  2. Wow, you're just making things up as you go. Lou did not commit to Howry as closer. BTW, you shouldn't read anything into Lou's attempts to downplay potential moves. He has to say he's happy with the team as presently constituted... He left the door open for closer and lineup positioning.
  3. My dream lineup Soriano (2B) Murton (LF) Fukudome (RF) Ramirez (3B) Greene (SS) Lee (1B) Soto © Lofton/Fuld/Willits (CF) Z, Hill, Burnett, Lilly, Lieber The defense would suffer dearly with that situation. Soriano is LF and almost anyone else at 2B would work. Also, DLee is too far down in the lineup to fully utilize his high OBP. He'd lose too many ABs over the course of the year.
  4. Psh, why do we need Merrill when we have Neal Cotts? I'd say George Sherrill is better than Cotts but it's speculation that the Cubs are after him.
  5. Stone is on The Score. In response to a caller inquiring about Cintron's presence at Spring Training, Stone said he "knows" the Cubs are working on a few things... He went on to say that in addition to Roberts, the Cubs need Sherrill to face the various lefties and switch hitters (in NY and Philly specifically). Anyway, it's hard to know if he's speculating or talking with some idea of what the Cubs are seeking. He doesn't think Eyre is reliable enough to soley depend on him.
  6. Absolutely, which is why there is speculation that they want players that won't all have to go on their 40 man roster. Plus, you have to think that the O's are going to try to cast their players off on others. The current Cubs/O's rumor is Roberts and Payton for the Cubs' players. I could also see others DFA or traded on the O's side.
  7. That depends almost entirely what you think of Fontenot. In all honesty, playing Ronny Cedeno instead of Theriot, and keeping Murton as our fourth OF is probably just about as good. I think that's just straight up BRob's advantage over DeRosa. If you add in DeRosa over the next utility guy (presumably Fontenot), it probably becomes a little more than 2-3 more wins. Last I checked, we weren't likely to just add Roberts (and his 2-3 wins) without subtracting from the major league squad. True, but I suppose it depends on how much PT you actually would have expected out of Murton, Gallagher, Cedeno, etc. As things stand right now, without BRob, it is hard to argue that Murton and Gallagher (and even Cedeno unless he wins the SS job in ST) will be in a position to get enough playing time to have an impact on wins. Roberts alone can. One way or another, trades will have to be made; There are too many pitchers and position players (and Cedeno is out of options). Plus, we have a rule 5 pitcher.
  8. IIRC, Roberts is projected to add 2-3 more wins if he were in the Cubs lineup. That is much more than a slight upgrade over DeRosa.
  9. This is completely fabricated but w/e This is what the Sun Times said. Not much I know: LMAO
  10. In the 2 o'clock hour, The Score update mentioned Crisp expressing interest in the Cubs. Crisp reportedly said 3 teams were inquiring about his status and one of them was the Cubs. He either implied, or said directly, that he wanted to be traded to the Cubs...
  11. To be fair, I don't think the trade was ever off; perhaps it was on hold while the O's worked on the Bedard deal . Also, I think this situation is unique because of the various leaked reports. Rightly or wrongly, GMs no longer have the luxury of negotiating in a bubble which creates speculation and anticipation...
  12. Yeah, the Sox are denying this report.
  13. This article is more telling than Rosenthal's speculation. I think Andy wants to now wait and see the Cubs players perform in Spring:
  14. Because HE personally called ME out on it. My only response to the validity of the rumor was: So you don't think that saying "this is completely fabricated..." called his credibility into question? Or more importantly, that he would interpret it in that manner? I guess Meph should have said "In my opinion, this is completely fabricated" with the proper qualifiers and disclaimers no one would have taken offence You can say what you want but I don't see how saying something is "fabricated" can be construed as positive. Anyway, I don't have a stake in the debate one way or another but I can certainly see why it got heated in the thread.
  15. It also wouldn't surprise me if MacPhail is intentionally leaking new info about a second team. He was also quoted earlier today alluding to more than one team in the mix. He seemed to use this tactic against the Mariners (the Cubs were used as leverage to try to up the stakes).
  16. I believe the Indians are in the picture. The real question is which team is Andy using as leverage? My guess, on the surface, is he's using the Indians to try to get Hendry to increase the package. I say that b/c of the time they've put into this thing and b/c of their relationship. However, Cleveland could get Roberts if they are willing to part with more than the Cubs.

  18. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. Levine's been on the money quite a few times. The guy still gets a bum wrap for the Pudge thing years ago.
