  1. It's probably just his usual cramping. I'm not going to worry until I hear otherwise. He gets one of these every year.
  2. Jeeze the Cubs are trying to give me heart failure! DLee and Z flopping on the infield...
  3. Yea, he definitely doesn't belong in that group out there. Not true, Jesse Jackson is the one who spearheaded the effort to get Ernie a statue. It's fitting that he be there (He's not there for his politics or other reasons. He's there as a fan of Banks).
  4. I better get in my posts before this thing is banished... I still can't believe this trade never happened. I think Andy vastly overrated Roberts' value.
  5. We'll all know by 2pm CT. Hendry was on The Score this morning talking about the deadline to send the roster info into the League office. It sounded like his pick is Pignatiello over Marshall just by listening to him say Marshall will be probably be needed later to start... My guess is Carmen.
  6. this post reminds me of the people i sat near when i was at ST. people got sooo worked up about hustle and diving and all this other stuff nobody does in ST. the crowds at ST games really care if their team wins...it's weird. He was clearly jogging instead of running and he got embarrassed. LOL, did you see his face? There's nothing weird about it; I'm not saying he should risk injury in a Spring Training game but that doesn't mean you don't run (hell, he legged out a triple). All he needed to do was run home instead of taking for granted he'd score.
  7. Marshall might be pitching himself out of a bullpen spot. I think Pignatiello is a better fit anyway.
  8. DeRo try running hard and sliding next time.
  9. For some reason that sounds less definitive than Sullivan's take. Yeah its been overblown. I wonder if Hendry dumping Cintron was a tactic, and MacPhail coming out with this news is a counter tactic....but mostly I'm just going to pretend this is going away. I agree. This may well be a tactic on MacPhail's part. I won't be convinced until Opening Day arrives without Roberts at Wrigley Field.
  10. Well, I was the first to post on the historic 300th page... I say this thread should remain unlocked until Opening Day.
  11. Baltimore Sun For some reason that sounds less definitive than Sullivan's take.
  12. hey dude...do me a favor! stop making sense! There isn't a lot there that makes sense. Why can't Cedeno sub for Aramis? How does the lack of a Roberts trade mean Murton gets traded for nothing? Cedeno isn't losing his trade value by making the team. Patterson will not be "wasting" another year in the minors -- he would be there with or without the trade. I have no idea what Gallagher, Patterson, Veal, Ceda, and Hoffpauir have to do with the roster "problem". To answer your points in order: 1. I suppose Cedeno could sub for ARam, but I don't think he's ever played 3B or even taken grounders at 3B. 2. It's pretty obvious that Murton won't be a Cub for long. Hendry even admitted that he promised he would try to trade him. Another stint in the minors only decreases his trade value. 3. Cedeno is out of options and he doesn't seem to be the type of player that is successful playing part time. Not getting regular ABs will probably hurt his ability to showcase his potential. 4. Patterson could have been a valuable piece of the trade package for Roberts. Patterson, like Murton and Cedeno, have very little to prove at AAA. Cedeno is playing 3b today so it may make it easier for Lou to use him there in the future if the need arises. I also believe he's played there in the past.
  13. FYI, the Angels broadcasters said that Cedeno was inserted as a last minute replacement for DeRosa. I'm not sure what's up with DeRo but I'm just throwing it out there. Cedeno is playing 3B.
  14. Eyre is expected to start the season on the DL. Marshall and Pignatiello are both being given the opportunity to win that bullpen spot to start the season. However, Len read a quote by Lou today that said the spot is Sean's if he pitches well. Carmen has been lights out this Spring, but I think Lou feels Sean is ahead of him in the pecking order. One could argue that it's better to send Sean to AAA to keep him stretched out as a starter. I doubt he'll be able to get enough innings, to maintain anything near a starters stamina, in the bullpen with Lieber slated as the longman. It seems to me that Pignatiello's repertoire more closely fits the role Eyre is leaving vacant... Of course, this could all be moot if Marquis is traded in the 11th hour. edit: Cubs.com
  15. I disagree. Vargas can take his 5+ ERA elsewhere. However, one could argue that his absence reduces the Brewers ML pitching depth.
  16. I think Lou will elect to put Lieber in the bullpen over Dempster (or Marquis). First of all, Dempster becoming the seldom used longman, after being the closer, would be a severe blow to his ego and Lou doesn't need that headache especially when it's Marquis he really wants to have moved. It's easier to give the new guy (or the once Cub turned new guy again), Lieber, the bullpen role. Putting Marquis in the bullpen makes it difficult to showcase him if a trade doesn't happen before Opening Day. Lieber will start if Marquis is traded.
