  1. Hall grounds out. I really think Marquis has rediscovered his sinker.
  2. I'm listening to WGN on the radio and the Brewers (Uecker) on Gameday Audio. There is a definite delay.
  3. I love all the ground balls! Keep it up Jason. :D
  4. Interesting. Is it being away from the media the reason its at the minor leagues? To paraphrase, Lou said it was to get Prior away from the cameras and the pressure so he can concentrate on pitching.
  5. I'm sure the papers will be all over it...
  6. Link? I don't think an unbiased interpretation of Lou's quotes shows anything except the obvious fact that Prior can't pitch in the regular season the way he has pitched in ST. He just said it on WGN radio's pregame show. If you have Gameday Audio you can hear the rebroadcast...
  7. It may not be a firm deadline but Guzman is clearly leading the pack right now. Prior will be making his next start in MiL camp (according to Lou).
  8. Piniella just said, in the pregame show, that Prior's next outing will be in the Minor League camp (away from the media).
  9. This quote makes it sound like Guzman was lights out dominant yesterday. Granted, I didn't see the game, but what is so spectacular about giving up five hits in three innings (with one K)? double post
  10. This quote makes it sound like Guzman was lights out dominant yesterday. Granted, I didn't see the game, but what is so spectacular about giving up five hits in three innings (with one K)? The defense up the middle was horrible yesterday. Cedeno made an error, Pie misplayed some balls, and when Jake Fox came into the game he couldn't keep the ball in the infield. Plus, the hit that lead to the only run was a broken bat single. Guzman's performance was admirable (especially for someone looking to fillout the bottom of a rotation).
  11. Today's Suntimes has a slightly different take, than the news yesterday, on Piniella's upcoming decision. Considering he made this statement before the game, it could be that Guzman has clearly become the leader in Lou's mind. Piniella could very well be ready to make a definitive decison on the final spots by March 20th. He also said that Guzman will be getting a start in his next appearance.
  12. I like it. Thanks Bruce Actually, I wish these guys were playing on TV yesterday. Do you think most of them will play again tomorrow?
  13. I would put Guzman in the second position in the pecking order, followed by Miller. Guzman is the best candidate right now but Prior will be extended every opportunity, during Spring Training, to earn the job. The Cubs took a chance on Wade Miller because they were hoping he would regain his velcocity and general ability to overpower hitters. In his current state, he won't miss too many bats which makes him the most expendable of this bunch. Cotts will make the team as the long man.
  14. Here's more of Lou's quotes about Angel: Tribune
  15. Tons of pitchers lose velocity. Is there something I'm not getting here, or is Prior delusional. Yeah, I agree but he says this: I don't recall Prior being as low as 81 mph.
  16. Perhaps you're correct but I don't have the same confidence. He seems lost and if you read his quotes, it sounds like he isn't convinced he'll find an answer soon... It looks like he knows he's better but he isn't sure he can recapture his old form. He's definitely lost his confidence. Link
  17. Ryan is already guaranteed a spot! Link
  18. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd be surprised if Prior is 180 degrees better in 2 starts. The velocity isn't as troubling as the command (or lack thereof). I'm rooting for him because I know what he can do when he's healthy and confident. I just don't want a repeat of the "waiting on Mark Prior" saga. In the meantime, I can only hope that Guzman continues to pitch well.
  19. I think Lou's too smart to set any kind of date without being comfortable that he'll follow through. He knows that if he deviates or appears to waffle the media will hound him for an answer. Of course he can always change his mind, but I think it's another sign that Lou's leaning heavily in Guzman's direction.
  20. I know. I'm trying to account for the other mph he's lacking. He could get it up to 94mph consistently. That would be him working back from shoulder injuries (maybe mentally too, as UK points out), that's not a surprise (it might never come back, it might). I think it's promising if he's missing 3 mph that he had earlier in camp (I was expecting him to bump up over 90 mph in the next few starts anyways). Are you hopefully that he'll regain form before March 20th? That's a mere 10 days away. I can easily see him getting his 4-seamer in the low 90s after 2 more starts. I'm more interested in his command and how his curve comes along. Piniella didn't set a hard deadline, and even if he did, he would fudge it if Prior was progressing. There comes a time when Prior won't progress as rapidly as he did from his first start to his second start - hopefully that comes after he's come close to acceptable for at least a 5th starter. I posted this earlier, but March 10th is the date when Lou expects to know the choices for fifth starter and long man.
