  1. I hope this doesn't become Hill as Cashner's personal catcher.
  2. Can never have enough guys to back up 3rd y'know
  3. Dumb.
  4. Thanks, I'm gonna give it a shot.
  5. Cop out answer, but it depends on what you're looking for. Honestly not even sure. I know I could just walk into a crowded bar close before game time and get some pitchers. But for an entire game that could get a little old. I'd like to get a booth somewhere, so I'm guessing I'd have to go a little early, while still being around a bunch of Cubs fans. But I wouldn't be looking for much more beyond that besides reasonably priced drinks and some decent to good food. And I'd like to be as close to Wrigley as possible.
  6. I'll be in Wrigleyville all weekend as a buddy of mine just moved up there. I have some excellent tickets behind home plate for Saturday but I'll spend game time Friday in a bar. I've spent some time in basically every bar around there but I'm not sure which one to go with for a full game since I've never done that. Any recommendations?

  8. BULLDOGS!
  9. Holding out in hoping to get a trade offer for Silva? I'm guessing no interest since teams likely expect him to be released. Come on Quade just name Cash the 5th starter already and let Silva go pitch elsewhere.
  10. With sluggers like Koyie Hill, Darwin Barney, Blake DeWitt and Reed Johnson coming off the bench I feel great about our chances of stranding runners in late inning pinch hit situations.
  11. I'm pretty sure Brad Stevens could part the Red Sea. Sorry Florida, you're next. Also, my UConn pick in the Final 4 is looking pretty good right now.
  12. I have a feeling we'll find a way to hide Ramirez. Probably DL him to start the year. He could play [Tom Hanks' voice] BACKUP CATCHERRR! But wouldn't want to waste his potential in that spot he'd get more at bats on the DL.
  13. How dare you speak about Starlin Castro in such a way.
  14. So they're paying like 7 million for Grabow and Shark to suck in the 6th-7th innings.
  15. I am not in favor of Hill owning a major league roster spot on the Cubs. I would risk Ramirez not reaching his potential with less at bats to stop it from happening. You wouldn't hear me complain about him getting a bench role, since apparently he's not being considered as a catcher anyway. If he has a leg up to get that roster spot then its all the better for him.
  16. Well its not an optimal situation for Ramirez sans he gets to be paid major league money. And the potential young player we care about will be in AAA. Ramirez being the backup catcher isn't some sure-fire option, but it would be an easy choice for me. Its not like Hill is a defensive whiz, which would cause me to not take the chance of a possible offensive upgrade so callously.
  17. It certainly won't matter if DeWitt goes all Aaron Miles on us.
  18. I have no idea what Ramirez would likely do. Yes he has a small sample size but he also has more potential. He could be serviceable with the bat and get on base at a good clip, Hill already proved he can't. I don't have any reason to believe he can't call a game or get to know the pitchers well. This just sounds like Lou speak to me, perceived value > value. Basically I'm more than willing to choose the question mark over the known crap. Yes fine, it is tiring. But its because Hill is so monumentally bad even a small change could be impactful if Ramirez hits. If he proved himself to be that monumentally bad I would want him out too because he does bring less intangibles than the savvy 3 fingered vet. But we would have given ourselves the chance to see if he can be better than that. If he blows it let Hill come back and be the CERA king. And conversely, I won't lose any sleep if Hill retains his job and is used properly. The constant black hole being played day after day still resonates so perhaps I am overstating.
  19. I don't know what happened to him. But I think it says a lot about the structure Collier and Matta put in place before he took the head coaching gig.
  20. Might want to re-check that math. No, I got it. Sure you can ramble on about the importance of backup catcher, like none us already knew it. Fact is Ramirez is already better in the time he has played (.340+ OBP) compared to Hill's .200 something. Win. It doesn't matter if its not a guarantee, its the move that should be made. You can keep marginalizing it, it's just the backup catcher spot, sure. But its also the position where backups are used the most, and history suggests the Cubs backup catcher will get a significant amount of at bats, due to days off and injury. If Castillo comes up for the injuries I'm fine with that too. The less Hill the better, no matter how much Old Gummy rationalizes it.
  21. I must have missed the histrionics. Take out bad player put in somewhat better one = win. I just don't want to see another 200+ at bats of Hill and if that option is eliminated from the start I'll feel better. Of course it is far more important that Cashner makes the starting rotation, which has gone swimmingly so far.
  22. I shall never be compelled to have Hill on the team. And yes I agree with Castillo in AAA. That's why we have Max Ramirez to backup.
  23. Okay last week. Get Hill off the team and let Cashner win his rotation spot. And keep everyone healthy.
