  1. Actually, eratic velocity readings on prep arms are common and don't necessarily mean injury. It could easily be a kid being inconsistent with mechanics, dead arm (it's a young arm), etc. but that's a big risk given his bonus demands. It could definitely only be that. But since he fell, I've lost a little confidence in that explanation. Albeit his monetary demands and college commitment play a big part as well (ie Bell). If they saw changes in his delivery that resulted in inconsistent velo, it could be him favoring his elbow (UCL) some. I'm not saying I wouldn't take a chance, I would. But I would instantly send him to talk to Curt Schilling about caring for his arm and hope he doesn't lose that mid 90's fastball that makes him so valuable.
  2. I'd like to see Dillon Howard as well. Norris is definitely intriguing but the erratic radar gun readings likely mean TJS soon. Thats a big risk for 3.9 million, not knowing how he will respond to that.
  3. Count me in with the group that likes grabbing the guys with high ceilings - this system needs as many as it can get. If you need improvement with plate discipline than having the best bat speed in the draft helps you sit back on pitches better, which goes a long way. The power certainly helps as well.
  4. I've read he has great discipline, not a concern, and a project with subpar plate discipline.
  5. I just hope this doesn't affect their success in the Fecal League Standings.
  6. Yeah most likely. And this topic has been thoroughly covered. But I would have like to see a different major league plan taking shape and heading into this off-season with different personnel and a different itinerary, a year together down. The way the situation is now seems to have evolved from well let's see what happens this year ya never know - we don't want to make any rash decisions. Okay, we suck bad but we were injured a lot, no need to shake things up just yet. What a disappointing season, we know Hendry has his faults but let's see if he can sign his friend Pujols. They're awkwardly man hugging there's gotta be something to that... No idea what will happen. I feel like I'm underestimating Ricketts' cajones here and considering we have little history of Ricketts' baseball operations, is likely. But if he comes out and cans Hendry and overhauls the FO, that would be sexy.
  7. The only thing I haven't liked out of the ownership so far was their, I assume, 1 year evaluation period at the major league level. There's perfectly good arguments for both sides here but again, if it was me, I would have overhauled the front office from day 1 and moved on from there. Now we're balls deep into another [expletive] year and either the crappy front office we're used to stays status quo or there's a big overhaul during a crucial off-season of FA. Neither are optimal. Would have loved to see Ricketts put his stamp at every level from the start.
  8. +1 for the Meatballs out there
  9. Ya but where would be without MFer Windermere?
  10. Also, return of the Hottest Chick Contest
  11. Barney in 2009 - .293 .339 .369 .708 Barney in 2010 - .299 .333 .378 .711 Barney in 2011 - .303 .325 .383 .709 I figured it out. He's a robot.
  12. Listach wants 25 Barney's not 25 Castro's
  13. uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I didn't know this was the Bruce signal...
  14. This is what happens when you have a middle infielder who bats .300. People can't control themselves. Or Wittenmeyer is just on troll mode for the rest of the season.
  15. Word is McNutt and Whitenack want to have their TJ surgeries together.
  16. Hard to believe he only won 1 MVP.
  17. That's why I went to Opening Day weekend. I knew after that everything would only go downhill. The only time I watched a game from start to finish on tv this year was the 8th inning comeback Boston game. My interest in the Cubs is the lowest I've had since I started following the team. Bunch of people are waiting to come back and care again. I'm putting all my hope into this off-season. I miss caring about baseball.
  18. Saw an article somewhere not too long ago that Pujols hurt his hamstring earlier in the season, and was his usual self up to that point. Ever since then his swing changed (no power off his leg) and his numbers dropped.
  19. Id like to see the Pacers take Donatas Motiejunas, Reggie Jackson or Kenneth Faried. Jimmer would be cool too.
  20. I could only hear part of this story. Anyone mind telling me how this happened? He got called up by the Orioles in early August. Later in August the O's were playing a continued game (against the WS I think) from April and he got a hit in that game. The official box score of the game has the April date, so he got a hit at least 3 months before he was called up. Haha. That's great. Thanks.
