  1. Free Wayne Mesmer! Where is he anyway? He should do every anthem and rendition of God Bless America. You mean the guy who can't pronounce "brave" correctly? home of the breeeeeve
  2. You mean the Trib doesn't have anything to do with giving the go ahead to a deal Z/Hendry have worked out already? That's the holdup. Do have to say, I know that hindsight is 20/20 but that time not talking contracts prior to and at the start of spring training sure feels like wasted time now. Maybe a 5 year deal could have been worked out before the clock ran out. :x Sounds like 20/20 to me. Carlos had every reason to wait until FA knocks before signing with the Cubs. He was a horse, so the "guaranteed dollars" argument that drives most contract extensions doesn't have a lot of influence in this case. He's healthy and productive. Why sign early? I can't imagine there's too many agents out there that would recommend that strategy in Z's case.

  4. That's nice, he's still one of the better hitters on this team. Even his outs are loud. You can't say the same for no XBH Murton and his IF dribblers. Floyd hasn't cost us a run in the field and has hustled on the basepaths, beating out a DP and taking the extra base on several occaisions. Floyd's OBP is currently 50 points higher than Murton's, so I'm not sure what you're getting at with the BA argument. So after 17 plate appearances in sporadic action Murton is a bum? Talk about a short leash. I'm basing my opinions on what he's done in the 650+ AB's prior to this season, as well as his age. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that if Lou continues to give Murt starts only vs. LHP and sporadic PH opportunities then his Cubs career is probably already finished if Floyd can stay healthy. Even Jim Hendry is smart enough to see that Murt is more valuable as trade bait than as the RH half of a platoon. Who said he was the RH half of a platoon? All we've seen is Murton struggling and Floyd performing fairly well. What is there to complain about exactly? The guy who is producing will play. Murton is not producing right now. Will he? Of course. I'm not worried about that at all.

  6. OMG, not the sample size argument yet again. If we did it your way we wouldn't be getting anything out of LF right now. In games isn't the only time major leaguers swing the bat. Murton should still get the starts against LHP. Should we go a month or two with Murton slumping just so he can "work his way out of it" on the field? No thanks. I'd like to win some ballgames.
  7. It's a mistake to play Floyd over Murton? Not so far it isn't. The '07 regular season numbers disagree with you. This isn't the prospect development league. The Cubs are out to win ballgames. The only position players slugging .400+ are DLee, ARam, DeRosa (now injured), and Floyd. Floyd is one of the better hitters on this team right now and isn't costing us in the field. But I guess you're right, we should play Murton irregardless of performance on the field. You're really saying that Murton's 16 AB's and Floyd's 25 AB's can justify continuing to bench Murton, even though he has been very good the past 2 seasons? When he's looking absolutely lost and un-Murton-like at the plate? Absolutely. He's not working the count like he usually does and he's hitting weak dribblers that don't make it out of the IF. Face it, he's playing like crap and until he starts getting it figured out, Floyd should be starting over him (as Floyd is one of the better hitters on this team right now).

  9. Does the sample size argument only work when it is directed toward Floyd? When did Murton become the LF of the future? All throughout Spring Training, Lou said that Murton would be the main LFer. main LF in '07 is not even close to being the LF of the future.

  11. Well, ST was a mirage. Jones still can't throw.
  12. Wow, that was a nice play even if he didn't get him.
  13. It wasn't catchable and it rolled to the wall. Freel didn't dive, IIRC. It certainly wasn't Edmonds-like.
  14. Good work, Lee. Now drive them it, guys.
