You really, really should. Middle relief for our floundering major league club is not worth jeopardizing the future and length of control of possibly our best pitching prospect. I'm a fan. I care about winning. You're talking about a pocketbook problem we face years from now. Who's to say Gallagher won't be open to a deal locking him up long term a few years down the line? It's only a question of dollars. The Cubs have enough and then some. No. It's not just a question of dollars, it's a question of full years that we control him. It's not as if Gallagher was ripping up Iowa but we have no room in the rotation. When he goes back down he's going to need more time to develop, maybe even more than before now that we're screwing with him by promoting him two levels and putting him in a role he's never been in. And, like was mentioned, Gallagher isn't exactly throwing bushels of strikes in AA that he's going to be a great fix for the (nonexistent) problem of walks in middle relief. It's called an extension. You don't have to wait until the last possible moment to offer it (looking at you, Hendry). Lock up your good, young players early.
