  1. That didn't matter last year... Since Iowa State was outgained by Kent State this week, I'm not too confident. The rushing attack (outside of Bates) needs a lot of work, and the rush D is still awful. On the plus side, the pass D is much improved, and our kicking game looks better. Arnaud has been efficient passing, and Phillip Bates is easily our most athletic QB since Seneca Wallace (just needs some passing accuracy). If Iowa can do what South Dakota State and Kent State couldn't and limit their turnovers, they should be able to win with superior talent at home. A win by ISU wouldn't be too surprising though considering the recent history of the series. Go State! I still haven't gotten to see ISU play, but from what their fans are saying, it doesn't sound like this one will be close. None of them are supposed to be, though. Still, I'll go out on a limb and say the Hawks dominate. I'm talking a 20+ point win.
  2. I can't wait to get swept out of the first round again!
  3. Well, this is easy to call. Cedeno will make an out. Marshall will be pinch hit for and that hitter will make an out. Howry will come in and blow the game.
  4. As much as people complain about Marquis, Sean Marshall is pretty craptastic.
  5. I think he was implying that the kid is a bandwagoner. It wasn't funny.
  6. My student tickets are MIA, so I guess I'm here for the Iowa game. The Ricky Stanzi era begins!
  7. If we don't win 90 I'll stop being a Cubs fan.
  8. His release point isn't that far down, actually. It's not very consistent from start to start, but it's not significantly lower now than it was earlier this year. 2 or 3 inches lower at most according to the graphs on brooksbaseball.net. But maybe 2 or 3 inches is significant. Not knowing much about mechanics, two to three inches sounds huge to me.
  9. He will and Lou will use him in at least one close playoff game I guarantee this I'd bet Howry doesn't get into a playoff game within 3 runs of winning or losing unless it's the 13th or later. I don't see why anyone thinks yesterday's outing will change Lou's use of Howry. People have been saying "this is the outing that will convince Lou that Howry sucks" after just about every game he's appeared in. He's still used in tight games and crucial situations. It's not going to stop.
  10. If Z's done, we're toast. But I'm guessing he'll be okay (based on nothing).
  11. Nice Dusty Baker hindsight argument. Well played. There was also the foresight, the statistics, and the fact that it's bloody stupid to bunt with Dero when you've got what'shisface batting next That's okay. You tried to criticize and you were wrong. Buck up and keep shooting for that rainbow. This last post and "that's nice" do not qualify as effective arguments.
  12. Concede tomorrow's game to give the bullpen some extra rest and then go beat the crap out of the Reds.
  13. i don't htink we can beat anyone right now. i can't envision a situation in which we could possibly win. We are never winning again. Not just in 2008. Ever.
  14. I love what BB said about Romero the other day. "They say you should act like you've done it before. Well apparently, Romero had never done that before." Same can be said for this tool.
  15. Yeah, I hear ya...even with a loss, the Cubs are still 31 games over 500, firmly in first place with the best record in the NL...Definite panic time. How, exactly, does the situation you describe differ from 1969? There's a wild card now... which makes a huge difference Ooooo okay so we have a safety valve that will let us get swept by the Mets instead of the Dbacks. I see. Ok, when I said panic, that's definitely not what I meant. We're still going to win the division, but I'm just becoming less confident we're in a league of our own in the NL.
  16. not even close. The game Hawkins blew against the Mets is easily my worst regular season game.
  17. You would've been worried if they lost this game which becomes a virtual coinflip in extra innings but not if they had won? Yep.
  18. That makes two of us. I'm absolutely expecting a collapse now.
  19. Now I'm starting to seriously worry about this team.
