  1. According to the SportsCenter bottomline. Something always intrigues me about players returning to their old team.
  2. Really? Because of the four offseason RF targets the Cubs had going into the winter meetings, Gathright is better than 2-3 of them (depending on how many games you think Bradley will last in the outfield). And that's BEFORE you take contract value into account. If we're considering those targets to be Ibanez, Hermida, Abreu, and Bradley, than there's no argument to be made that Gathright is even close to as good as any of them. Why is this comparison even being made? There's zero rumors floating out there even remotely linking us to Hermida. Ibanez is a Philly. Abreu and Bradley are being looked at as replacements to Kosuke in RF so he can platoon in LF. No one ever advocated Gathright as a substitute to Abreu and Bradley. He signed a minor league contract for crying out loud. If Pie gets traded, then Gathright basically replaces him as "organizational depth." Uh, that guy made the comparison? I was just responding to exactly what he said. And we have definitely been linked to Hermida.

  4. Yeah, they could do worse, but it would be pretty difficult.
  5. I'm so confused as to where this Morneau/Dunn thing is going. They're both really hood hitters, though in different ways. The statlines are similar, but I'd say Morneau's probably a bit better since he hasn't gotten to play in GAB for so many of his home games. But I don't see how anything regarding Justin Morneau proves Adam Dunn is not an awesome hitter. I'd be happy to have either one on my team.
  6. Wait, Derrek Lee is an elite offensive player? The difference between Adam Dunn and Derrek Lee is pretty huge, and not in a way that is good for D-Lee.
  7. Oh my God, awesome!
  8. I'm sorry, I have an extremely difficult time describing someone as a very good hitter when their career batting average is .247, they average 160+ strikeouts a year, and his career RISP is .241 (.208 with RISP and 2 outs.) Sometimes, the situation demands a player step up to the plate and drive in a run, and he can't deliver that. His career numbers prove it. These SHOULD matter. Listen, OBP and SLG are great numbers to have...I know. But Dunn is basically another Soriano, only with the ability to take a walk and not steal a base. Most people here hate Soriano, yet praise Dunn profusely. He's a valuable offensive piece overall that just doesn't make sense for this team based on our needs. They praise Dunn and don't like Soriano because Dunn is a much better hitter, and other than the fact that they have a lot of power and strikeout they have basically nothing in common.
  9. sigged You're a fool if you think HRs = production. Sorry, but if you've read the last few posts, you'd see that a guy like Morneau will always out produce Dunn... no matter what lineup each is respectively in. I read the last few posts and.. well, I definitely don't see that.
  10. I think signing Bradley would amount to paying extra money to have Reed Johnson or Fukudome play right field for 60-70 games. So yeah, I'd prefer either of those options. It's more playing time for Fontenot, not Kosuke or Johnson. Okay, still. The fact that he's going to need so much time off doesn't worry anyone? I completely neglected that option. I'd rather have DeRo as the full time right fielder than waste money on Bradley to inevitably get hurt. He's had a grand total of one healthy season in which he consistently played defense and it was way back in 2004. Last year he only managed to play in 120 games as a DH! There's literally no reason to believe he'd stay healthy in 2009. Yeah, we'd have depth, but why pay someone who you can almost pencil in for missing 1/3 of the season? Dunn would be ugly in right field, but he did it in Arizona. And he could be moved to first after 2010. I'd much rather have Dunn than anyone else. Even Peavy.
  11. you dont think bradley is a better option than abreu or fukudome? I think signing Bradley would amount to paying extra money to have Reed Johnson or Fukudome play right field for 60-70 games. So yeah, I'd prefer either of those options.
  12. Looking at our realistic options for right field, I see Bobby Abreu, Jeremy Hermida, and Milton Bradley. Going a little bit further out there you could consider Adam Dunn or Jermaine Dye. Going even further out there, you could stick Pie in center and play Fukudome in right again. I don't really think of Bradley as a better option than any of those given his history. 1. Dunn 2. Hermida 3. Pie/Fukudome 4. Dye 5. Abreu 6. Bradley That's honestly how I'd assess our options. As badnews said, this is Milton frigging Bradley we're talking about. In right field. Why are we so excited? I'm praying someone makes an offer he can't refuse and it isn't us.
  13. The issue isn't even performance for me (though I don't think it would be outstanding), it's that he couldn't stay healthy last year as a DH. There is no way he'd play more than 100 games. I'm not trying to harp on the fact I don't want Bradley. I've made it fairly clear. But God, I just don't get how I'm in such a small minority.
  14. What he said. The one thing that most of your trade proposals have in common is that the Cubs rip off all other teams involved.
  15. Well, Bradley is a lot more appealing with DeRosa likely to be here. But I'm still not optimistic at all. Why we're not pursuing Dunn is beyond me.
  16. Ick. I just can't see Bradley working out well. Not only has he not always been healthy, there's been times in his career where he hasn't even been that good. He's no lock to produce good numbers. The last season in which he played over 120 games before this last one was 2004, in which his OPS+ was 108. Not only is he a huge injury risk, he's not even close to a lock to perform spectacularly. I'd much prefer Abreu, who is durable, consistent, and draws walks like no body's business. He's not much of a defender, but neither is Bradley, IIRC. And when Bradley inevitably gets hurt, it's looking like we won't have DeRo to step in. I'd much prefer... LF Soriano 2B Fontenot RF Abreu 3B Ramirez C Soto 1B Lee CF Fukudome SS Theriot That said, I know I'm pretty much alone on that one.
  17. ugh...it seems like this is falling apart quickly We have another source saying the exact opposite. Just wait and see.
  18. It's hard to take all of these conflicting reports seriously.
  19. http://csnchicago.com/pages/new_landing/?Chuck-Garfiens-MLB-Winter-Meetings-Blog=1&blockID=20047&feedID=661 It is now... 6:37. What's going on?
  20. I have been holding off on my brother's Christmas present, waiting so I can buy him an authentic #44 instead of #18. I think you'd be best off not getting a Moises Alou jersey regardless of whether Peavy comes.
  21. I'm more inclined to believe Bruce and even Kevin Towers.
