Ok, not much to report here - but it's being talked about on the Score. Apparently there are rumors floating around that Hoyer is going to bring Bud Black with him to manage the Cubs. No link yet, hopefully one emerges. Anyone know much about this guy?

The Red Sox initially asked for Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza, and at one point proposed the Cubs take pitcher John Lackey's contract as part of the compensation, according to a major league source. Lackey has three seasons remaining on a five-year, $82.5 million contract. He was 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA in 28 starts for the Red Sox in 2011. But the expected agreement will include Cubs minor leaguers, although not top prospects Brett Jackson, Trey McNutt and Matt Szczur, the source said. Cash will not be part of the compensation. I know this thread monster is difficult to dig through, but somewhere along the way after that was posted, they say McNutt may well be a part of it. May /= will

Padres get John Lackey and Brian LaHair Red Sox get Darwin Barney, Tyler Colvin, Casey Coleman, and cash. Cubs get Theo, Hoyer, and Matt Latos. Why aren't we getting Adrian Gonzalez if we're giving up so much?

No but he calls a better game than Geo. But as I said, he is so worthless at offense that he doesn't deserve to wear a Major League uniform. What prospects do you think you can get for a 29 year old inconsistent catcher? Based on what? Steve Stone

How about Geo Soto too? Hm... no thanks? He's 29 years old and he isn't good behind the plate or at the plate. He hit .202 with RISP last year in 114 at-bats. Theo Epstein sure as heck wouldn't care about the last stat. You're an importer.

Sounds like we'd get in huge trouble for tampering. Huh? How is that tampering? Our owner calling two players who are currently playing for other teams in the playoffs? Seems pretty clear. It was a nit pick, regardless.

Well that settles that then. Better lock up Carlos Pena. He said that while Chicago is a great place to play, these guys want to win and are not going to want to wait around for any type of rebuilding process that could takes years. Which is absurd. This team doesn't need a multi-year rebuilding process.

They look completely lethargic. Vandenberg has been getting anxious and overthrowing tons of receivers, the offensive line has been nothing short of awful, and the defense has given up way too many big plays. This team could be an absolute mess.
