  1. I barely post here and I need to speak up - this is obnoxious. Stop acting like a petulant child. This is Thep Epstein's moment.
  2. It wasn't a rumor at all. They just tossed it out as baseless speculation. My bad - I'll lock the thread.
  3. Ok, not much to report here - but it's being talked about on the Score. Apparently there are rumors floating around that Hoyer is going to bring Bud Black with him to manage the Cubs. No link yet, hopefully one emerges. Anyone know much about this guy?
  4. The Red Sox initially asked for Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza, and at one point proposed the Cubs take pitcher John Lackey's contract as part of the compensation, according to a major league source. Lackey has three seasons remaining on a five-year, $82.5 million contract. He was 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA in 28 starts for the Red Sox in 2011. But the expected agreement will include Cubs minor leaguers, although not top prospects Brett Jackson, Trey McNutt and Matt Szczur, the source said. Cash will not be part of the compensation. I know this thread monster is difficult to dig through, but somewhere along the way after that was posted, they say McNutt may well be a part of it. May /= will

  7. Padres get John Lackey and Brian LaHair Red Sox get Darwin Barney, Tyler Colvin, Casey Coleman, and cash. Cubs get Theo, Hoyer, and Matt Latos. Why aren't we getting Adrian Gonzalez if we're giving up so much?
  8. Then don't read them, it's for the best. Didn't he say hiring Theo was stupid like 2 hours ago?
  9. No. I yield to the all caps answer. It's got to be right - it's eLouder.
  10. No but he calls a better game than Geo. But as I said, he is so worthless at offense that he doesn't deserve to wear a Major League uniform. What prospects do you think you can get for a 29 year old inconsistent catcher? Based on what? Steve Stone
  11. How about Geo Soto too? Hm... no thanks? He's 29 years old and he isn't good behind the plate or at the plate. He hit .202 with RISP last year in 114 at-bats. Theo Epstein sure as heck wouldn't care about the last stat. You're an importer.

  13. smashing pumpkins are my all-time favorite band, but he needs to stfu and get a better drummer and stop writing gay lyrics. Gay lyrics? have you heard any of the new stuff? Naw. I was wondering if they were literally homoerotic lyrics or if you just had a poor choice of words right there.

  15. How is everyone feeling at this point? My leaning is still that Theo will come, but that might be wishful thinking.
  16. I actually cursed the Cubs earlier this year. It was just as significant.
  17. Sounds like we'd get in huge trouble for tampering. Huh? How is that tampering? Our owner calling two players who are currently playing for other teams in the playoffs? Seems pretty clear. It was a nit pick, regardless.
  18. Sounds like we'd get in huge trouble for tampering.
  19. Well that settles that then. Better lock up Carlos Pena. He said that while Chicago is a great place to play, these guys want to win and are not going to want to wait around for any type of rebuilding process that could takes years. Which is absurd. This team doesn't need a multi-year rebuilding process.
  20. Wow, I'm legitimately optimistic that Theo Epstein might be our general manager.
  21. I thought it was a terrible idea before that blog post, but now... God. A Phillies blog has changed my mind.
  22. http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2011/story/_/id/7042098/2011-nlds-milwaukee-brewers-starting-jerry-hairston-jr-casey-mcgehee But, but... I thought this was the worst move we ever made and he was for real!
  23. The Iowa defense needs to prevent a touchdown to cap a pretty terrific comeback...
  24. They look completely lethargic. Vandenberg has been getting anxious and overthrowing tons of receivers, the offensive line has been nothing short of awful, and the defense has given up way too many big plays. This team could be an absolute mess.
  25. Iowa is shooting themselves in the foot over and over and over and over.
