  1. I would love a Dye for Murton swap, since Murton doesn't seem to fit into our plans.
  2. you say that as if the Cubs have had hitters go elsewhere and blossom into great hitters since...oh, let's say anytime in the past 20-25 years. Joe Carter wasn't to shabby now was he, I believe he has a couple rings on his finger! I wasn't talking about just hitters I was talking about any player, pitcher, batter and ballgirl for that matter. Joe Carter was pretty terrible. Sarcasm? Terrible might be too much, but he certainly wasn't as good as people make him out to be. He was mediocre for just about all of his career.

  4. It's not the best option, but I'd certainly prefer a reliever over nothing. Another lefty reliever would improve the team, albeit marginally.
  5. What about something along the lines of Pie, Veal, and Murton for Salty and Gagne? Would they laugh us out of the building or is that a legitamate offer?
  6. Looking at his numbers the past two years, I'd be happy to have him on board. Not for Pie, but if it's a reasonable price, definitely.
  7. That's a stellar idea. Soriano Church Lee Ramirez Hermida DeRosa Theriot/Cedeno Kendall(ideally Soto) I'd swap Church and Hermida, but yeah. I love the idea of acquiring Hermida; is there any chance he's actually available? For Pie? Absolutely. However, I'd be reluctant to swap those two. If Hendry gives up Pie, I'd prefer it be for established producers.
  8. Colvin? Next year? Presumably, Jones in 2008, then who knows in 2009. But with Colvin in AA, it wouldn't be a surprise to think the Cubs thought of him as their guy by then. Colvin makes Pie look like Adam Dunn in terms of taking walks. He's got 14 walks all year long. He only has an OPS of .700 right now in AA. Hey, I'm not saying it's my plan, just that it would make sense to believe the Cubs think it's a legit plan. Obviously Soriano has LF for 8 years. They are extremely high on Colvin, given the aggressive promotion for no good reason. One would think Soriano, Pie, Colvin is on somebody's mind, but if they want to get a "legit" RF, then they will probably trade one of Pie or Colvin. I think Kroeger is better in right. Kroeger doesn't figure into the future much at all.
  9. Alright, let's say we do get Zack somehow. Personally, I'd slot him in the rotation over Marquis right away. You guys?
  10. This makes no sense for the Royals or Orioles.
  11. Pie for Laird and Gagne? Right... Any chance we could use him to get the Rangers to spin us Salty? They've already got two very good catching prospects. If Pie was part of a deal to get Salty, I certainly wouldn't be upset.
  12. We'd be tied in the standings, but percentage points ahead I believe.
  13. You are nuts. The Cubs are getting bottom of the NL barrel production from SS, CF, C and RF, and you think there are no holes? You should check Theriot's July stats and find me an NL shortstop who put up better numbers. Theriot's season OPS is still just .706. That's low. Theriot's advantage is his energy and timeliness (which may read as luck), because he seems to be at the core of nearly all Cubs rallies. But that is an immeasurable anecdote at best. I think using OPS to grade Theriot is a bad idea. Everyone knows he sin't going to have any power numbers, so his OPS is going to be low. His OBP is very good though. He palys good defense and has had tremendous success stealing bases. That is his role on this team and I think he does it well. I'm a big Theriot guy, let me say that first. I think he's an adequate shortstop offensively and I love his energy. However, a sub .350 OBP is not very good, especially if you're hitting for no power.
  14. That, on the other hand, does worry me. The Cubs have made a habbit of finding a team that is inferior to them and getting creamed by them throughout the year. Granted, they've done well against the Cardinals so far, but the idea of the Cardinals (or Pirates, or Reds) taking critical series from us is not far fetched at all. I have to see it to believe it, and no Cub team in recent memory has consistently beat the teams they were supposed to beat. This one has been doing a good job lately, but we also have been swept by the Marlins this year (which I think could come back to kill us).
  15. Haven't we had a Zambrano-Sheets duel this year?
  16. Because it would render Floyd useless? Gah! Floyd's uselessness is what renders him useless.
  17. I just find it impossible to believe Hendry could be that stupid. His job is on the line, and if he stands pat, this team could easily miss the playoffs.
  18. I had some on my old computer, but not this one. The only ones on google are really low res shots. Anyone got any high quality photos, be they from the division clincher or NLDS win?
  19. A 5-2 home stand would be very respectable, especially considering it's the Mets and the Phillies coming in. Respectable? A 5-2 homestand is awesome if it's against the Nationals and Pirates. If it's against the Mets and Phillies, it's nothing short of fantastic. ... Instead of using ellipses, just go ahead and tell me why I'm wrong.
  20. Wins are harder to get? Yeah, I guess, but being in first place in the lost column is being in first place in the only thing that matters.

  22. If we have something like a 5-2 home stand this week, any doubts I've had about our chances of making the playoffs this year will be erased.
  23. Ask the Brewers if one or two innings of solid relief work can make or break a game. Nothing kills a team faster than a team with a leaky bullpen. You'd think any Cubs fan who lived through 2003 and 2004 would know that. The Cubs got within 5 outs of the World Series with their shaky bullpen and I don't feel biased in saying they would've definitely won it.
