  1. From all indications, Jim Hendry is a fairly private individual when it comes to player dealings/negotiations. None of us can say with any certainty that he isn't interested in Giles. All we can say is that the press hasn't reported it (yet). I will remind you that there weren't any tangible reports about Hendry chasing Nomar or Derrek Lee either until literally 24-36 hours before the deals went down. We all just have to show some patience - difficult task, I know. Hoops I'm not saying he needs to announce it, just do it. I don't disagree with you here. And I know you must be kidding about Nomar because I was reading about that for months before it happened.
  2. And the El Camino  And Joe buying Barbies! *snicker* just imagine how annoying he would be if the cardinals had made it. worst announcer in baseball (and football for that matter).
  3. They are saying hamstring injury on clemens. that's back related too though. I think he may be done. and I mean permanently.
  4. High fastball k's podsednik. I really wonder if we will see him again in this series or ever. Back injuries for 43 year olds are not fluke and I don't think you can argue its lack of conditioning with Roger. These last two months may be convince him to hang them up.
  5. ugh, I hate bernie mac. not that I know him - his movies and shows just seem so dumb.
  6. Hill and Pinto, Murton and probably another hitter or perhaps Welly or Wuertz.
  7. White Sox will win. Oswalt is the Astros only advantage and he only gets two starts. For Houston to win, he must win both and they need to produce some offense. I don't see it happening. Sox in six.
  8. Apparently you haven't watched him in the playoffs? Remember Game Four in Yankee Stadium with the A's down 2-1? hmm. In any case, I would worry about getting to the playoffs before I worry about playoff "mental toughness." Wasn't Bonds lacking that as well? How about Vlad? I don't see any way Oakland trade for TLong part II.
  9. Is Rusch substantially better than Mitre for those limited starts Craig? I don't think so. If the big three miss much time, I would rather spend the money upgrading the offense so we don't need a starter that dominates.
  10. As far as I know, there is no data correlating PAP with anything either so this is sort of a moot point. There are no must win games in May and no excuse for abusing Wood or Zambrano that way. You may win that game but it could easily cost you 5 wins down the road.
  11. That may be hoops, but hendry should be active in preventing this - Giles will go where he wants but the Cubs cannot sit back and not do anything.
  12. If the Cubs only show passive interest and St. Louis signs Giles, I would think it safe to say Jim Hendry is not interested in competing in the NL Central.
  13. I've missed Crazy Train . . .
  14. on why Jones should win the MVP - a lot of people disregard batting average so we will here. of course they don't offer any better stats. perhaps they should have noticed that Pujols (and Lee who was completely ignored) had much better numbers across the board. Also, ARod couldn't shine because of the lineup around him. That's why all his rbis are so impressive?
  15. Terrible. You would think the analysts might offer something beyond what the average idiot already thinks he knows.
  16. Maybe that's exactly what they did.... and identified that there *is* a need to bring Rusch back as insurance? They charted Mitre's pitches, and noticed that he doesn't have anything that he can throw consistently in the strike zone to control the count. They watched Koronka; and made the logical conclusion that Rusch was a better bet. They watched Guzman in Arizona... and judged that his arm is iffy and he doesn't have any control at present, so they aren't sure if or when he will. They charted Wood going to surgery, and couldn't conclude that he'll be healthy and good. So they perhaps charted Williams in as #5, Hill in as #6, and Rusch in as #7. Hill may be removed because he may be invaluable in relief, or may be too wild to be good. Wood may be removed because he's injured. Prior may be removed because he's injured. Z may be removed because he's injured. Williams may pitch worse than Rusch. Seems to me there is plenty of reason, given the age and fragility of the front 5, to think that the #7 guy might be needed, and might be worth $2.5 million bucks. To want some insurance other than Koronka and Guzman as your #7 starter, I guess I don't see why that's so crazy. If Wood, Zambrano and Prior are hurt, or perhaps or, it doesn't matter who our 7th starter is. Might as well go with youth.
  17. goony loved baker . . .
  18. The scaffolding collapsed, not the structure. I would assume the scaffolding was not 90 years old.
  19. 15 and 15 does work with interleague play. I don't think interleague is special now so I don't how its any different if they don't all play at once. the NFL doesn't, why does baseball have to. As far as the schedulers go, I imagine they do most of their work on a computer anyway so they can make it work. I think two sixteen team leagues is better though. With the rise of Milwaukee, the inherent disadvantage of a six team division is becoming more prominent. The NL Central should get the wildcard more frequently and the AL West less frequently.
  20. the yankees and red sox tied this year, didn't they? I would imagine boston would have a prayer. anyway, I think most of us agree that a new revenue system is needed. Colorado belongs with Arizona, Kansas City, Texas . . .teams like that. I think your best bet is to shake up the AL and NL. Tampa belongs with Florida and Atlanta and charlotte.
  21. You can't split up the cards and cubs or yankees and red sox or dodgers and giants in my opinion.
  22. his numbers would suggest he has never commanded the strike zone. his inability to judge pitchers is not a mental block so much as it is better pitches that are tougher to judge.
  23. if pujols was a better hitter, he wouldn't have swung. You are talking in cicrles. by your logic anytime a team doesn't hit its good pitching meaning all hitters are the same.
  24. the neifi's are there because of poor decision making not lack of talent. a new revenue system would be required though as goony touched on. anyway, I didn't think that through right. You could do 4 eight team divisions and give each division winner a bye. 2nd and 3rd play a five game to advance to meet the division winner in a 7 game.
  25. a team that also didn't score any runs off most of the other houston pitchers - would you say lidge is not a good pitcher?
