  1. I would call the phillies about pat burrell if they are looking to shed payroll and an outfielder.
  2. call Jim Hendry!
  3. It seems pretty clear over the last several seasons that a deep bullpen is major part of postseason success. Having flexibility in the pen is a huge advantage (though I doubt Dusty has the wherewithal to take advantage anyway).
  4. Tim actually described last night how the astros had gotten runners to second and to third, but none had scored. yea, we noticed they had zero tim.
  5. I don't get it. I woke up this morning and it didn't bother me in the slightest that they won. seems to me a lot of cub fans have stooped to the bitterness level of many sox fans. get over it - they were the best team in baseball this year.
  6. hard to say without knowing the price vance. one thing's for sure, I wouldn't pay Furcal 9 or 10 million a year.
  7. I would take a healthy wood over zito. Zito has to be pinpoint to succeed. I see Barry as a middle of the rotation starter on a general basis and an occasional dominator. The jury is still out on wood although he clearly has the stuff to dominate night in and night out.
  8. The White Sox were the best team in baseball this year. The AL is stronger than the NL. The Cubs have a lot of work to do to catch up with Houston and St. Louis (and Milwaukee). Ultimately, the Cubs need a healthy pitching staff and some relievers that throw strikes. I think the Sox show you can win with a mediocre offense if you have dominating pitching. Given the Cubs management lack of understanding of offense, I think going for dominating pitching makes more sense. Go get Wagner.
  9. I find it amusing that Prior is now labeled a "#3" starter and Wood a "#4" starter. Of course those labels are meaningless, but the Cubs don't need a #2 starter nearly as badly as they need those two to be healthy. The point being that you are much better off spending your resources on offense as the risk is far less than the risk with pitchers. Plus, the Cubs have been far more successful in drafting and developing pitchers than hitters.
  10. amen. I would sign Wagner. Not that I expect it from Dusty, but its time to break from traditional bullpen use. I'm no fan, but I do like the way Ozzie has used his pen (from what I have seen). Having two shutdown arms allows a manager to use one in a 7th or 8th clutch situation and still have a closer for the ninth.

  12. yes.
  13. Sox fans are going to be insufferable for decades. glad I don't live in chicago. y'all better hope the cubs get their act together quickly.
  14. I hate to quote tim mccarver but "how do these things happen?" is a great line right there.
  15. first homer of the year for podsednik - unbelievable.
  16. yea, should have remembered they "took down" everett. raisin, berkman singled to left in the 8th last night with tavares on 2nd and no outs - tavares held at third and the sox bullpen struck out the side.
  17. no, burke to 2b. vizcaino to ss. berkman to lf.
  18. they held the tying run last night raisin and never got him across. probably a good call with the wet outfield.
  19. now bruntlett is out as well. vizcaino plays second?
  20. I like the Vizcaino move against jenks but I would have gone with lamb for ausmus as well.
  21. apparently biggio and berkman aren't needed in the late or extra innings but ausmus is.
  22. wow that was close - no chance the astros hold him again tonight though. better throw gets him.
