  1. I hope St. Louis does sign Burnett.
  2. ESPN just reported the signing quoting the times story.
  3. maybe, but VT, FSU and Miami are not top ten teams. I still don't understand how OSU lost to PSU. There is really only one game to watch this January and that one could be great!
  4. but he would have $10 million more guaranteed with the Cubs offer. When he becomes the next Alex Gonzalez at Chavez, he won't get those last two years worth of money.
  5. Why would this sour the relationship between Hendry and Kinzer?
  6. Really, I feel bad for the people staying up all night worrying about it!
  7. I'd rather win. Period. I don't care if (insert most hated person here) is coaching the team, I want to win. If you don't think that's possible with this management team (and I think that's what you're saying), that's one thing. But to wish for losing is something I just don't understand. They don't have to win my way, I just want wins. I think what he means is he doesn't want to see 85 wins out of team that has no chance to win the WS thereby saving Dusty's job. If the team wins the WS, I'm with you - but back to back winning seasons is not good enough.
  8. ESPNews is not reporting any MLB news. Its not like they need things to talk about tonight though so they might just wait for confirmation. They got burned a couple times in the last couple years.
  9. that was [expletive]. I was looking at the replay to see if he spiked it at someone or something. stupid stupid call. also stupid to go for 2.
  10. are you not allowed to spike the ball?
  11. FSU should play WVU so there is only one garbage game.
  12. The ACC is a weak weak conference.
  13. I've never been much of a supporter of online petitions. Maybe a better idea is to find out how to get in touch with whoever organizes the guests. Any help? PM Len Kasper, I'm sure he knows, or at least has a better idea than us. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to think this could happen - could you imagine the silly advertising they could run with this? It'd be even funnier if they displayed a video in CF if Rubby jumping up and down, ala the rally monkey. Have you ever been to Wrigley Field?
  14. wow, that's an awful deal for the cubs . . . I sure hope that doesn't happen.
  15. Lugo without question. He's better and much cheaper.
  16. You can say that again Jax!
  17. good buddy working for the cards? consorting with the enemy are we? just kidding. hard to give it much credence with that being his first post do you give much creedence to "a feeling that something is going down today?" anyway? He's not really trying to hook us into anything so why be suspicious?
  18. Pierre. Ok, but Wilson is better with a similar OBP and far more power. He is probably at least equal defensively, doesn't cost us prospects, and is probably similar money wise. I could live with Wilson in CF if we get a real RF and would certainly prefer him to Pierre. As it stands, I would opt for Bradley for CF but that RF still needs to be identified. The answer to the question is deeper, as it depends on Pierre's health and combined ability to stay healthy. All of his skills are dependant on his ability to run. Wilson just doesn't help our team, same as Soriano. Cubs were 1st in AVG and SLG, and near last in OBP. His OBP and SLP far exceed what we had in CF last year so he does improve the team. I'm not saying he's a great choice, but he is better than some names floating around.
  19. If they can pay Jeter 19m to be an average SS and Mussina 17m to be an average starter, then they should at least pay Giles 21m to be a great oufielder. Offensively Jeter is an outstanding shortstop, easily among the best in the game. His extremely poor defense mitigates that somewhat, but I'd still rate him as a very, very good middle infielder. Jeter's defense is not "extremely poor." I believe he rated amongst the top five SS defensively this year and last.
  21. Where did the base clogging thing come from? Did Baker really say that? He said guys who walk and aren't fast clog the bases. haha, oh god. translation by the transitive property "oh pujols" ok, I'm bored.
  22. To me overpaying is paying more money to a single player than the franchise can afford. This means paying more than the player contributes to winning, spending too much when comparable cheaper options are available, weakening other positions by spending too much on one position. Market value is not necessarily relevant. If you need Furcal to win the WS, then you should spend as much as you can and need to, to get him regardless of market value. If he only adds 3 wins to a 77 win team, then perhaps he isn't worth as much.
