    I didn't see the play, but if the centerfielder can get to the ball and calls off the other defenders, the secondbaseman has to get out of the way, no matter how adamantly he is calling for it. it's not a question of who is more talented. it's a matter of protocol to prevent just such occurrences. Well from what I saw...Utley was clearing making a call for the ball..I didn't even see Rowand make a call..it appeared he was even backing off..but at the split second charged in again.

    You know, just to be safe, they should trade us Utley for Pierre. We'll keep him out of Rowand's way. good gosh..Utley would be so perfect for Cubs. Its not even funny. What I would give for him to be in Cubbie blue. If I was the Cubs GM I would offer a combination of any 3 prospects in the system...no one off limits. [/pipedream]

    Do I feel bad for Rowand yes. But he was out of control on that play. Utley clearly was calling him off. Rowand needs to play alot smarter on the field. The Phillies could have lost the best young 2B in the game for an extended period of time.

    As the Tigers are about to find out. Watch him pull a Maddux on us not grounf out to the 2B every at bat Well yesterday wasn't a great start. 0-4, first 2 outs were made on the first pitch, in all he swung at every first pitch and his last AB he grounded into a double play. How long will that nonsense last with Leyland? Man don't the Tigers have a minor leaguer who knows how to work the count who could have come up instead? If the Tigers get a ring this year there is no way Neifi should get one. It's kind of like the PH/3B that was on the Cubs in the 03 season who got traded to the Marlins. Man what was his name? Lenny Harris?

    So are you saying Dusty's a liar or saying that writing racial slurs in a letter (some of which include death threats) doesn't indicate prejudice based on skin color? I hate what Dusty has done to this team and I've yelled many things at the TV while watching him that I wouldn't want my mother to hear me yell, but none of them had anything to do with race. They all had to do with his inability to properly manage a baseball team. I have no problem with fans booing or yelling things that attack Dusty's skills as a manger. I have a big problem with people yelling or writing racials slurs while attacking his skills as a manger. I have just as big a problem with people defending this as anything but racism. Using a racial slur to attack someone who is bad at something (rather than solely for being of a particular race) doesn't make it not racism. No. I'm sure the racial slurs/hate mail exist. I'm sure they existed in San Franscisco. I'm sure they will exist wherever he manages next. The bottom line is that I don't like the fact that this article attacks Cubs fans as racist. I'd be willing to bet the racist letters are not even from Cub fans but some KKK moron that happen to turn on WGN and see an African American manager.
