  1. Also now according to ESPN, Steve Smith has been ruled out of today's game-those two injuries have severly hurt my fantasy teams in Week 1.
  2. anybody who disagrees with this is really just kidding himself Thats just not true. The Irish fell in the polls by not winning by enough last week. It would be idiotic to not "run up the score" every chance you get. You can't run up the score when you're losing most of the game. Notre Dame never had the chance to run up the score because they were holding on by the skin of their teeth. It's not like Notre Dame had the opportunity to score another 2 TDs and didn't out of sympathy for their opponent. Also, as I mentioned earlier, margin of victory is a factor in the BCS. To be fair to the other side, this is not true. The only way that margin of victory factors into the BCS is the polls (which you already mentioned earlier in your post, so you can't double count it). The computer rankings were forced to exclude any margin of victory component 3 or 4 years ago.
  3. A FAKE PUNT And thanks for the update ndistops. Here is a quote from the Indianapolis Star today about why the fake punt was done. It definitely sounds like he was still worried about the outcome of the game. Up 27-3? :? With 6 1/2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter? Definitely. Notre Dame can look to their team last year for proof of that. One, the defense has looked good so far, but not enough to still wonder if they could play like last year when they gave up long passing plays at will. Also, last year against Michigan State, Mich State scored a TD to go up by 21 on ND with 5 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter-and they then kicked off to ND, just as ND would have punted to Penn State. ND took that game into overtime, and could have easily won it in regulation. 24 point leads in the 3rd quarter are not automatically safe, especially with a team like Penn State who has big-play receivers that could burn you for a 70 yard TD very quickly.

  5. Air Force scores a TD, goes for 2, and fails-they are down 31-30 to TN now, and TN has recovered the onside kick.
  6. Air Force is down 7 to TN, and has the ball again with a couple minutes left-the time should really be a factor with that AF offense though.
  7. I was incredulous too...that was just one person standing straight up tackling another person standing straight up-it was not leading with your helmet whatsover.
  8. FSU now up 24-17 on Troy-come on Troy, one more big drive to send it to OT! (I fear they are done)
  9. 3 quick score updates Indiana 24, Ball State 23-and Indiana is at midfield again. TN 31, AF 17 in the early 4th FSU has 1st and goal on Troy's 4 yard line after a Troy interception with 2 minutes to play.
  10. Eyre doesn't think so. Agreed-Wuertz didn't do his job all that well there-he gave up a hit for a run, and then the line drive double play really helped him.
  11. I have been really impressed with him. Other than stealing 3rd with 2 outs the other day, he's been great. At least he knew he was in the wrong. I don't think he'll be Jones part II. I think he's made the '07 team. You forgot getting picked off of first in the 9th inning when he was the tying run-but other then those two mistakes, he has shown really good baseball awareness over the last month.
  12. Just great reaction from Theriot on that DP-most second baseman would not have been able to react that quickly and get over there on the line drive. Good work Theriot!
  13. FSU scores 17-17 with Troy now. BTW, Gamecast has FSU with 25 rushing yards, Troy with 23-looks like it was more than just the Miami game.
  14. Air Force scores to stay close to TN. 24-17 TN now with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd
  15. Troy just took a 17-10 lead on FSU with just over 11 minutes left!
  16. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ First time I'd be happy about an IU loss. :D Indiana's coming back now-23-21 Ball State now with 5:30 to go in the 3rd
  17. I didn't get to see many of his pitches, but I saw him hit 89 on the gun on the Atlanta broadcast once or twice-have really divided attention though, so don't know if that was normal, high, or low for him though.
  18. If we could have seen more of this Juan Pierre, he'd be wonderful. 2 hits, 2 steals (with 3rd base taken as well once). Also, 2 more things that won't show up-as the Atlanta announcers have speculated, if Pierre is not trying to steal 3rd earlier, there is no way that the Theriot ball is a hit-because Giles plays it on a hop. Giles went for the dive hoping to double Pierre up, and it gave Theriot the hit. Also, Pierre was the only player who could have gotten home on that SF by Ramirez. So again, just a great game by Pierre so far.
  19. Weis comes from the NFL, which is getting more and more of the mentality that you don't take the pedal off until the opposing team gives up. PSU didn't give up-they still had their starters in, and they still were doing things like calling timeouts. Even coaches like Tony Dungy subscribe to this philosophy-if the opponent is still trying to win the game, so do you. It's not like this was a 1-AA team where the team had no chance to beat your second or third string. Penn State has the firepower to possibly make the game interesting in the 4th quarter against all backups if they leave in their starters-why should Notre Dame have to risk that?
  20. He wasn't rated as a 10-read the quote again. 10 is what La Russa would give himself for all his over managing.
  21. Exactly, and it's not only a managerial candidate either. Take Ramirez, who I believe has said that he likes Baker a great deal. He will probably understand when the Cubs let Baker go, because that is just business. If they make it personal and humiliate Baker though, that certainly might make Ramirez less willing to come back to the organization simply out of anger due to the unnecessary need to personally hurt somebody he likes. Let Baker walk at the end of the season, be respectful about it, and move on-hopefully to better things.
  22. I really don't feel like explaining, AGAIN, that there were a billion factors coming into play into that decision, many of them that weren't even sports-related. But why let facts get in the way of a really good bias? Notre Dame jealousy makes me laugh. School pride from people who didn't go to said school makes me laugh. School pride doesn't always have to come from being an alumnus. Instead, it can be passed down from generation to generation. For example, my family has been Notre Dame football fans for 50 years or more. I grew up dreaming to go to ND. I would have gotten in if I applied, but I ended up choosing another direction because it was not the best school for the majors I wanted to take. Does that mean I have to abandon the pride in the football team I had enjoyed since as soon as I can remember? I don't believe that has to be true.
  23. Howard went 3-4 tonight with 2 HR's, #55 and #56. If he reaches 62, it will be hard for the MVP voters to pass him up-especially if the Phillies make the playoffs.
  24. That's like deciding that Fettucine Alfredo is too fattening, so you have a bacon and mayonnaise sandwich instead. Unbelievably, Bynum was one of the best pinch hitters left on the bench tonight when he pinch-hit. Edit: I'm not complimenting Bynum that much in that comment-but when looking down the rest of the Bench, there wasn't much there.
  25. The Cubs lose again! BTW, the Braves announcers just announced that Howard has hit #56 for the Phillies tonight.
