  1. FSU scores 17-17 with Troy now. BTW, Gamecast has FSU with 25 rushing yards, Troy with 23-looks like it was more than just the Miami game.
  2. Air Force scores to stay close to TN. 24-17 TN now with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd
  3. Troy just took a 17-10 lead on FSU with just over 11 minutes left!
  4. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ First time I'd be happy about an IU loss. :D Indiana's coming back now-23-21 Ball State now with 5:30 to go in the 3rd
  5. I didn't get to see many of his pitches, but I saw him hit 89 on the gun on the Atlanta broadcast once or twice-have really divided attention though, so don't know if that was normal, high, or low for him though.
  6. If we could have seen more of this Juan Pierre, he'd be wonderful. 2 hits, 2 steals (with 3rd base taken as well once). Also, 2 more things that won't show up-as the Atlanta announcers have speculated, if Pierre is not trying to steal 3rd earlier, there is no way that the Theriot ball is a hit-because Giles plays it on a hop. Giles went for the dive hoping to double Pierre up, and it gave Theriot the hit. Also, Pierre was the only player who could have gotten home on that SF by Ramirez. So again, just a great game by Pierre so far.
  7. Weis comes from the NFL, which is getting more and more of the mentality that you don't take the pedal off until the opposing team gives up. PSU didn't give up-they still had their starters in, and they still were doing things like calling timeouts. Even coaches like Tony Dungy subscribe to this philosophy-if the opponent is still trying to win the game, so do you. It's not like this was a 1-AA team where the team had no chance to beat your second or third string. Penn State has the firepower to possibly make the game interesting in the 4th quarter against all backups if they leave in their starters-why should Notre Dame have to risk that?
  8. He wasn't rated as a 10-read the quote again. 10 is what La Russa would give himself for all his over managing.
  9. Exactly, and it's not only a managerial candidate either. Take Ramirez, who I believe has said that he likes Baker a great deal. He will probably understand when the Cubs let Baker go, because that is just business. If they make it personal and humiliate Baker though, that certainly might make Ramirez less willing to come back to the organization simply out of anger due to the unnecessary need to personally hurt somebody he likes. Let Baker walk at the end of the season, be respectful about it, and move on-hopefully to better things.
  10. I really don't feel like explaining, AGAIN, that there were a billion factors coming into play into that decision, many of them that weren't even sports-related. But why let facts get in the way of a really good bias? Notre Dame jealousy makes me laugh. School pride from people who didn't go to said school makes me laugh. School pride doesn't always have to come from being an alumnus. Instead, it can be passed down from generation to generation. For example, my family has been Notre Dame football fans for 50 years or more. I grew up dreaming to go to ND. I would have gotten in if I applied, but I ended up choosing another direction because it was not the best school for the majors I wanted to take. Does that mean I have to abandon the pride in the football team I had enjoyed since as soon as I can remember? I don't believe that has to be true.
  11. Howard went 3-4 tonight with 2 HR's, #55 and #56. If he reaches 62, it will be hard for the MVP voters to pass him up-especially if the Phillies make the playoffs.
  12. That's like deciding that Fettucine Alfredo is too fattening, so you have a bacon and mayonnaise sandwich instead. Unbelievably, Bynum was one of the best pinch hitters left on the bench tonight when he pinch-hit. Edit: I'm not complimenting Bynum that much in that comment-but when looking down the rest of the Bench, there wasn't much there.
  13. The Cubs lose again! BTW, the Braves announcers just announced that Howard has hit #56 for the Phillies tonight.
  14. Bynum pinch-hits for Soto, and Bynum is the team's last chance.
  15. Wait a minute-the Braves announcer just said that Wickman has to work on the hole on the mound because somebody bigger than him was out there before him-but who would that be?
  16. Renteria grounds out, and the Cubs are down to their last 3 outs. 8-4 Braves Due up: Murton, Cedeno, Soto.
  17. Good play by Theriot-single up the middle, Diaz believes it has gone through-goes around 3rd, Theriot throws home, Diaz goes back to 3rd-but they get the hitter hung up between 1st and 2nd, and Lee tags him out for the second out.
  18. Novoa hit Diaz, then Orr struck out, then Diaz stole 2nd.
  19. And Jacque grounds into a DP to end that inning. 7-4 Braves going into the bottom of the 8th.
  20. Lee flies out to the warning track in right.
  21. Ramirez starts off with an IF single that almost functioned as a drag bunt-it got past the pitcher, and Ramirez beat it out because it was such a dribbler.
  22. RH pitcher Tyler Yates is in for the Braves.
